Overnight and today I got many more of the "Stickers for North Americans only" posts, and could not see sending them all out individually. So I decided to place them all in one post and send it on. Amongst the many reasons I do this kind of thing occasionally, it'll make it easier for those who don't care for this "discussion" to pass it by. As for my commentary on this whole sticker give-away controversy...the few complaing about the way it was set up, and the ones rebutting/complaining about the complainers should realize a few things, one of which has not been touched upon yet (not all apply to each of you of course).... a) it wasn't a contest. It was a give-away to (for some reason) North American voters. Yeah, perhaps it was ill-advised and in hind sight perhaps they just should have had the vote with no give-away, but they chose to be nice and give away some stickers and got lambasted for it. Please cut them some slack. There's much bigger problems in the world and in each of our lives. I mean, every time they have something free (i.e. the Storytellers taping in NYC), some folks complain. b) that's my second point. SOME folks complain. SOME folks post a rebuttal. There's 2,100 folk here and we've had (including below) maybe 15 posts about it. That means roughly 2,085 folks (North Americans, Europeans, Australians, Canadians etc) on this list DID NOT complain or post about it! Think about that. So the authors of the posts previously and below saying "I wish you all would stop" or "I wish you Europeans/Australians...." or "I wish you Americans......." or "if Jewel read this she's never ___ for us again" must remember we are talking about a handful of people (whether they are right or wrong) and not the list. The J-team, from the top to the bottom are incredibly nice folk, as are the vast majority of the people on this list. The J-team does not deserve the complaints this little happening brought on, nor does the list. Principle or not. Just my opinions, Mike :-) the posts (remember, I didn't write these, good or bad, reply to the people below) ****** ****** ****** From: NikosSong@aol.com Subject: Re: * RE: MrBB-FREE Jewel Sticker for your Vote! Ugh! OK, first of all, whining and complaining is going to get your NOWHERE. You as an EDA do not, even though some of you may think, run the business. No matter how much you complain, you will not get your way, so you may as well drop it. Second of all, the Europeon EDA's don't complain when Jewel does an american TV show, or gives extra concerts in the U.S. I think that is kind of ironic. Don't you? You will complain about a stupid sticker, but you don't complain about benefit concerts and all of the other things in the United States. If you are going to complain, complain about something worth it? OK? thanks.. Jenni ****** From: "Erin Benoit" Subject: Sticker mess Halo Angels, My 2 cents about certain contests only being for the North America...I'm just happy to be included in this living in Canada. For god sakes there's an invisible line that seperates us from the US and half the time we're not included in things either. It's the East coast EDA gatherings that really make me mad! Grrr! I usually don't post unless it has something to do with concerts, setlists, and taping. And usually, I just hit delete when the banter on this mailing list gets, in my opinion, severely off-topic or just plain stupid. Maybe, it's just the heat out on the West Coast, but this latest complaint kinda annoys me. Like someone else on this board just posted, it's a freaking sticker! And I really can't see why you're complaning about the "widening gap" between US and Int'l Fans. Cause in the end, it's all pretty much equal. In most int'l stops, there is little in the way of any fan from getting a nice seat at Jewel's shows even when reserved seating is used. Accessability is far greater for int'l fans, where you hear stories of everyone and their dog getting all their Jewel items autographed. If that happened in the US, Jewel would have one tour stop and spend the next month signing, talking and taking pictures with everyone. I can go on and on, cause there are true advantages to being a Jewel fan in Europe, but I won't. Why can't a simple act of gratitude (with reasonable limits), simply be taken as that? Must we all get something for free? I think not. I didn't get a sticker, and I *LIVE* in the US, but it doesn't bother me one bit. Be happy with what you have and what you've worked for... cause it is, after all, only a sticker. :) The DAT angel "Roel Cobben" wrote: Hey, > Ok, I can't help but post on this subject. > > People are saying that they shouldn't have the sticker vote thing because >not everyone can get it. You just said there is NO difference between any EDAs at all. So why is there a difference when people organize a contest? As I said in an earlier email, it's always the same with American contests. Here in Europe there mostly are no rules concerning a country where people live. It's not about a sticker or so ... It's just the principal thing that we (non-American people) can't get anything at all. I can accept that another EDA can get one; they can't help it ... Hey :) I'm new to the list but I had to comment on this one too... I live in Australia, and at first I was kinda bummed that the sticker thing was only available in Nth America, but this whole debate is kinda....well.....*selfish* I guess. To distribute a sticker or whatever to EVERY single person in the entire world who voted, would be kinda hard. The way I see it, by offering it to the Nth American fans, it's just a small way of saying 'thankyou' to as many people as possible. If you say "Give it to everyone or no-one at all" then aren't you just being a bit selfish?? I mean, think about how you felt when you realised you wouldn't be included.... By taking it away from EVERYONE, you're just leaving them feeling the same way. I say let Jewel, or people on behalf of Jewel, thank and reward as many fans as possible. It's a nice thought, and let's face it - they don't HAVE to do it. I'm sure everyone on this list would be just as happy to vote or whatever whether they got a sticker out of it or anything else for that matter. It's just nice that Jewel can give something back to a large number of her fans in appreciation of what they do for her. And in the end, it's not about the stickers or the posters or the competitions or whatever else, it's about the music - So we should all be grateful that we can buy her CD's and see her Live and appreciate her talent, rather than get spiteful about not receiving free stuff or being able to enter competitions.... I can understand where both sides are coming from, but when you really think about it, it's not that a big a deal. Just my opinion :) Stay Sweet, Dyani*~ ~*The Blue Angel*~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 13:17:39 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Kolashinski Subject: * Import Discography?
