I got soaked while walking to the pavilion but it was more than worth it! It was BY FAR the best concert I've been to. Did anyone record the show? I've been on this list for about 2 years now, and missed the previous two concerts that Jewel has done here in Houston, but I'm so glad that I didn't miss this one! One thing I love about Jewel is her musical variety. At the concert she played her slow songs, her folk songs, her rock songs, and even a country song! I don't have the set list, but I'm sure someone else will. And she has such a powerful voice. Her CD's just don't show her full potential, nor do they show her musical variety. As was mentioned on this list awhile back, her record company really needs to release a live double CD of Jewel! All I can say is, it was one helluva night! If anyone recorded the concert PLEASE email me! --BeefJerky E-Mail: beefjerky@starlynx.com ICQ # : 10461679 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 00:32:39 EDT From: FLYKANIGRL@aol.com Subject: * NJC: HI ANGELS Hey Angels! I'm finally back and better than ever! Can any sweet angel tell me what's been going on and what I have missed and get me back on track??? Well, hope all is well and hope I didn't miss anything too exciting. Well I'll see ya....drop me some lines and say hi or something. Does she really dig the Neo-Platonist and has she read the Enneads? Thanx, Jamieson ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 02:14:16 EDT From: BeachyGee@aol.com Subject: * review of the new orleans show - 7/11 Hello to one and all, Well to start off the night, I got there around 6:00ish and I was so nervous and excited I felt like I would be sick. Well I had 11th row center, which was ok, but I'm not going to be greedy, so I was happy where I was. Well I went to go buy my tour stuff before there would be an extremely long line, and guess who was there Cilla, who got into the soundcheck GRR, but she'll tell you about it. Ok so next was a period of waiting, and waiting. Next Steve came on, and I was so excited to see him, I loved his set (but I don't have the setlist I think Cilla does). The Star Wars song has got to be the funniest thing. Well there was another period of waiting, then Jewel came on. I was so blown away...I could barely speak or even move. I just sat there. So she sang the usual set... Near You Always(first verse acapella) Deep Water What's Simple is True Hands.. Then I kind of get lost. A few highlights were the Mexico trip story, it was a lot more detailed than I had heard prior to the concert. Also the German Interviewer story was funny. Then some guy yelled out "I Love You, Jewel" and Jewel replied "Thanks, baby." Well this caused more people to yell it out, mostly when she was signing that kinda of aggrivated me. Oh yeah she played "You're in Cleveland Today" (that is an old song, right, I hope I'm not just making it up, hehe) but she said it was a new song and called it "Cleveland" oh yeah and that's when Atz(her brother) came out and played harmonica with her and the band. As always, she told everyone they could come up to the stage so I ran and got right in front. I was so close I couldn't believe it. She sang "Down" and "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone" and the new version of WWSYS. Then she left, and came back for an encore. She sang AOF, a new song that she said she had written today and didn't tell us the name, a cute little yodel with Atz (the people right by the stage could hear them trying to harmonize their yodels, it was so cute) and Chime Bells, bascially this was the end, but I did get one of Doug's guitar picks which was a ver big highlight for me. Ok that's it. Sorry it took so much space up, and sorry there isn't much about the show itself, I have a horrible memory. Oh yeah and sorry for all the run-on sentences and grammer mistakes. English is my worst subject. Hehe. Good Bye. I'm going and was just curious to see if anyone else from the list would be there. Also... I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I would go about getting backstage passes? Like, what "connections" would I need and so on. If anyone could help I'd appreciate it immensly, Thank you. :) Tracey .... I've had a browse of the last few digests but this is the first time I've posted anything ( I've officially lost my EDA cherry.) I'm from the UK and subsequently it's not all that easy to get hold of jewel stuff. I would really like to hear from anyone who has audio or video recordings of Jewel's concerts at the Albert Hall and the Colston Hall, Bristol as I attended both of these concerts and would relly like a recording as a momento. I would also love to hear from anyone that has any video footage of Jewel (concerts, live performances, interviews etc.) My e-mail address is bakermarc@hotmail.com. Keep the faith and I hope to hear from you soon. Noticed someone mentioned the Rock to Erase MS event that has been airing on VH1. Well guess what? I worked on the event for the organization Race to Erase MS and it is true..you can get a Tommy Hilfiger jacket, Spirit CD, Rock to Erase Beanie Baby and Sarah McLaughlin CD for 49.95. Every cent raised goes to the Nancy Davis Foundation for MS...so far she has raised 3 million on this one event alone. So, if you actually catch the one hour special VH1 has been airing, look for my name in the credits under The RACE to Erase MS Foundation Credits.... You'll see my name there.. Laurie Seidman. Hope everyone had a great weekend..and for all of you going to Bearsville and Woodstock... I am SO jealous! I'll be here in LA working! Have the best time! The recent developments are in my eyes appalling, so that the basic sense of this list is jeopardized. Some EDAs may think that they have influence on whatever Jewel is or does. Their enthusiasm turned into a certain arrogance, an arrogance towards those EDAs who love music, showbiz, who are inspired by Jewel and who like to share their passion with others. Surely, there must be a freedom of speech in this list, but every EDAs has got to judge for himself whether he or she serves or destroys the list's athmosphere. I noticed that some EDAs developped a strange image of themselves. What are we? A (big) group of persons, mostly North American (who CAN get stickers, btw), sharing an interest. Nothing more, nothing less. So I think that it is a derision to come up with the illusion that we could have influence on Jewel. Thank god we haven't. This is my opinion. I hope for a funnier, better and happier future for this list!!! :-))))))))) Thanks, Nico -* Germany *- *** http://members.tripod.de/NicoPham/ http://members.tripod.de/Jewel/ *** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 10:14:39 -0600 From: asset.moo@mail.utexas.edu (Tessa) Subject: * Houston show Hi guys hehe Amias you are a riot! :c) Hi Dennis, Luna, Amy, Derrick, and AMber (and whoever else I missed)! Well I too attended the Houston show... about all I could say through the whole thing was "wow, Im seeing Jewel and Steve in concert for the first time!" I joined the list 3.5 years ago and FINALLY I see a concert! I thought I would never get to see them sing together! Yea! Hmmm so let's see... well unfortunately I missed the lake picnic beforehand because some sleepyheads and my ride (my boyfriend and his brother) were still asleep at noon! I didnt sleep one wink the night before I was so excited and I called them non-stop until I got an answer... needless to say I was a bit peeved, but I still get to see Jewel, so I guess its ok! So FINALLY we get on the road and into Houston... we find out at the hotel that the stupid guy on the phone gave me the wrong La Quinta reservation!!! "Oh THAT hotel is 10 miles south!" Uhh NO! I ASKED for this one... hrmmmm Im a little tenacious at this point, being seriously tired and grumpy! So anyways we get a room... I fell asleep until like 7pm! Ack! We are supposed to be at the venue! So quick bite to eat at Dennys (woohoo official EDA hangout? Or so Ive been told!) and we (Joe, my boyfriend and I) head down the road. It started POURING as we walked miles from our parking space to the pavillion! Most of the croud was soaked, but that was kinda funny! I got the world's shittiest seats... I couldnt see the screen in the back due to a buncha speakers and te rain was being blown under the tent thingie and onto us! Ok so enough boring stuff and onto the concert! Steve! Ok Steve is soooooo adorable! He is a big goofball and a cutie! If you ever get a chance to see him in concert, its well worth it! He played the ABC song!!!!!!!!! :c) He also played his movie soundtrack song and a few Rugburns songs and some off of his album plus one of his answering machine ditties! When he played Killkenny... Jewel and her band came in from froliching in the rain to dance a jig! Those of you begging her to wear something other than micro minis will be proud to note that she was wearing khakis and a t shirt and tennies and no makeup! hmmm let's see... Oh and he got the security guy some action! When he invited this girl up on stage to have wine he made her go and kiss the guard whenever he sang the chorus! It was soooo funny! He also made a joke about asking her for her ID, which Im sure most EDAs found subtly ironic! :c) In any case he gave a great performance, way full of energy and the croud loved him! The people sitting next to us even sat through his whole set without going to get thier 39847113874th cup of beer... poor Jewel though, they didnt do the same for her :c( the nerve! Hmmmk so intermission/between sets... kudos to LUna and Amias (where were Dennis and Amy and the rest of the gang?) for finding Joe and I.. hidden in the croud of crappy seats! Luna looked so cute wearing her angel wings (reallly, she had some wings and a cute little dress on!) And Amias' infamous hat! Lucky them got to sit up in 5th row center! Wow! ummm let's see now for that one little yodelling chick, I think! hehehe oh man what an opening... I got super goosebumps when out of complete darkness an oh-so-familiar angellic voice singing NYA sung out! OH WOW! It was soooo beautiful! I love it when its just her and her guitar! So at first she sang mostly from POY and Spirit A LOT from Spirit and the new Jupiter, asking us to request it and all! no Morning Song though :c( I almost peed in my pants when she started to play the beginnings of Summer Home in yer arms! I know Luna was in the same state! But she played Happy Ending instead, which was very pretty, and I had never heard it before... oh and then COld Song! Very cute! and then she really started to rock out! I was sooooo into this part of the concert... loved it! Joe even was enjoying himself and I bet this has converted him into a fan instead of an "oggler"! Her skatting was toooooo cool (it hurt!) the kitty going "meow meow meow"! And she actually yodelled at the end! It was awesome! So I got some of my dream concert... Jewel and Steve on one stage, yodelling, a rocking concert and songs that were new to me! Awesome! More than I expected and worth every minute! SO dont give up guys... it can happen! Oh and pleae do get involved... I didnt and I regret it too! I was a sleepyhead and slept most of my stay in Houston! These people are special and really really really sweet and accepting. You can't help but love em!
