There is a really great pic' of Jewel in the magazine "JANE". I don't recall what the pic' was from because I didn't really get a chance to look at it. Damn customers, don't they know I'm busy reading? lol Anyway, just thought I'd let you picture collectors know about it. I am an American who was in Japan for the Jewel shows. I am no one "official", i.e. the press, but did have backstage passes to the 4 shows. I can't see it being any different just because it is Europe. Hey, if a band member wanted to put you on the guest list, then they can...and there is your pass. Secondly, I apologize to those of you who gave up on this poat :) Thirdly to those of you who believe that my tardiness in posting is surely proof that I have "changed" due to this success and am now a mean,sold-out,slutty dressed,non-personable, EDA forgetting diva who wears too much makeup .....all I have to say in response to that is.... Dennis made me do it :) Onto the good stuff.... Friday Sonja and I headed down to SD to meet up with Lori,Riz,Tony,Jaime, and Ryan. We all met down at THEO'S (great Greek/Pizza place in OB just up the street from Joes). During dinner Lori,Riz,and I hashed out the last minute details for the show the next day (order of performers, introductions, ways to keep Riz chained to the soundboard, etc.) On full bellies we wandered about Ocean Beach and I was soon nestled in at Galaxy Comics. Lost in comic heaven I was only brought back by a constant nagging sound to the front of the store. Apparently the store had closed and everyone was patiently waiting outside for me to exit (except Ryan who had that frantic comic denied look in his eyes as he pressed his face to the window yelling Green Lantern..GREEN LANTERN!!!) From there we headed over to the world famous Java Joes in OB for Gregory Pages CD release party (The John Doe sessions, buy it,love it,pass the word). It was here that we met up with the EDAF Posse ( Tom "Hug Me" Proven, Amy "Sly Smile" N, and of course Dennis "I have the ability to instantly materialize out of nowhere right next to your face" Harris. After many greetings and salutations we were introduced to HGH member Pedro Morales. I spent a great deal of time learning about Pedro's life and amibitions. It was very easy to see why he was chosen to be involved in HGH efforts. His mission is to teach groups to use capitalism (commerce) to sustain and strengthen their activities. Much like the old axiom of teaching a person to fish so he will eat past just the one night that he would if you just gave him a fish (or donation). I shared with him our hopes for the EDAF on the West Coast, my love and understanding of the local coffee shop scene, a little EDA folklore, and introduced him around a bit to other EDAS :) We soon settled in to listening to the music and playing musical chairs whilst roaming about seeking EDAs to greet (HI Candi and Lora!!) After the music the EDAF recruiting pow-wow was in full effect and Lori and I soon were swaying to Dennis' rythmic chant. ;) J/K Dennis... Soon it was late and we were tired (Ok, THEY were all tired....Dennis and I could have talked thru the show the next day and still had wind for more...and we did!) so we all headed out to our various hotels to crash and ready ourselves for the day. At this point I would like to give mad props to Ryan for posting Darth Maul on guard duty. Saturday ***Disclaimer*** Tho I love and hold you all dear to my heart there is no way I can possibly name herein all of the great EDAs I met at the show on Saturday..not only were there too many of you (we had a GREAT turnout),but I was under a massive amount of brain frying caffeine amped stress MCing the show. I do humbly beg your forgivness and indulgence in this matter. If this is not to be the case, flames on this matter can be sent to my newly created email address: getoverit@yeahright.com :) The morning of the big show we rounded up new arrivals Jennifer McBride, Mo, Mike, and ??? (can't remember her name though she was a sweetheart) Jens friend while Tony deftly arranged for transportation. Helpful hint when transporting a group of ten...take 2 taxis at 1/4 the price of one van...we opted for the taxis as the big OB street fair was happening that day as well (nah 12,000+ peeps just turned out for our gig)and traffic was going to be a mess. After a cheat of a taxi ride (me: "Ocean Beach" cabbie: "Pacific Beach?" me "NO back to the 8,not the 5 fwy" cabbie "oh sorry...surface streets?" me: "ARRRRGH") we arrived to set up at New Breaks before the show. New Break on The Beach is a great little coffee shop and new to the area. They had just recently opened and their breakfast sandwiches are to die for, nevermind the smoothies. After rearranging things a bit, Lori and I met with Norma the owner to get her input and bring her into our merry little band of EDA friends. It was at this point that I found myself on a rickety ladder (superbly held by Tony I might add) trying to fasten balloons to one of the NewBreak signs out front. After viewing Jaimes handiwork on both the chalk sign and tip jar, we caught the buzz that Lenedra and the HGH crew had arrived. This is where my head started spinning and everything from here on is a giant estatic blur. I do vaguely remember meeting Lenedra and shaking alot of hands. I remember my voice much louder than anyone should have had to put up with, seeing Kris Kane to my suprise,MrBB,and Larry G among others :) Props here to Jason Mraz (this guy rox),Jennifer McBride and Mike (cd demos for sale), Jaime (1st time in concert), Alex (surf guitar!?!?!?), Mike C (EODA Kingpin), Judge and Mike(thanks for the gear guys), Season (also 1st time in concert), Riz, and Elizabeth for performing so incredibly. Not to mention the mad props to Lori,Sonja, Gerrit, and Dedi for letting me razz em a little while I was on mike. Barring your usual technical difficulties (Riz kept slipping his chain), it is my gutt feeling that the concert aquitted itself very well. The hardest element of the day (for me personally) was not getting to explore every EDA as much as I normally get to do. That is the best part for a talker like me. After the show there was the usual roping of the plywood icon Woody (I will not rope, I will not cope, I will not miss and look like a dope), we headed to the Jewel show. I will not discuss the Jewel show as you all have already done so...I just will add that it was satisfying to see our opener (Jason) playing the side stage there..oh and accosting Maddy and hangin wit Nate,Jim,Jennifer and Mo was fun as well. BTW Aurora and Angela...which one was the girlfriend of whom ...wha? ;) After letting Dennis get a group photo of our posteriors, a great many of us headed off to find a Denny's that could accommidate us all (around 20 peeps by now). Two Denny's later we found our way into chatting and merriment. I came really, really close to getting a cool Obi Wan Kenobi from the lobby toy claw game (quiet Dennis...I can hear you now), but I was robbed. After totally running ragged the Denny's staff, we all headed outside to say our goodbyes/hug repeatedly. Ok I lied...THAT is the best part for me..I am a hug-a holic....and Tom does hug better than Dennis...but not as well as Sonja :) Now whittled down to our original group (plus Jim and Paul) we drove up to my house(the EDA waystation that it is) to garner what sleep we could before setting out in the morning for Irvine :) At least that was the plan.... TO BE CONTINUED!!! === Take Care, Jason V Arunsun on IRC & ICQ Arnsun on AOL IM ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Jul 1999 04:47:51 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Vierling Subject: * NJC: MY BIG MONDO BELATED EDA CONCERT WEEKEND POST Pt 2 On the way to my house Ryans car blew a tire and striped another bald. Luckily no one was hurt, but it did delay our settling in for the night a great bit. There was also the matter of outfitting his car again the next day, but such is the stuff of life and it afforded us a great excuse to have lunch at my favorite mexican retaurant in town Las Palmas. It seems Riz managed to keep things flowing at the show and I was off the hook for MCing...which afforded me the time to meet Jason Mraz's mom,Stevie, Joe, Amy, and the many of the So Cal set that hadn't made it down to SD :) Though we missed Many of the performers that day (Jennifer, Jason and Alex's first sets, and Joe *we will do this again soon Joe!* ) I had the immediate sense that this was a more relaxed ,informal Gathering than we had planned the previous day. We were able to greet a fresh round of EDAs that I hope to be seeing much more of soon :) The personal highlight of the Sloppy Joes gig for me was seeing Alex and Jason play/sing together. This is something I had wanted to see since first hearing Jason play and it was alot of fun to witness. While this Gathering was smaller in attendance, I think those that went were able to glean a greater personal reward in terms of friendships and bonds formed. Though the venue needed us to go after our show, we huddled around outside singing and listening to those who did. That is until the Mall UnCool Patrol had to wander into our happy Gathering and bust it up like the tools for THE MAN that they are....but I'm not bitter...LOL After a man hunt for Ryan in the toy and electronics stores nearby we bought the requisite mall Mrs Fields cookies and headed out to see Jewel at Irvine Meadows :) BTW those of you who skipped this Gathering for lack of Jewel concert tickets kick yourself now...the Mall was giving them away in spades.... ;) I sat in the lawn section and had a marvelous time with Our Swedish EDA friend(whose name also escapes me...email me man!), Paul S, Priscilla (my littlest roommate), and my gf Sonja. We spread out blankets and reclined under the stars for most of the show. I also enjoyed the lawn section because it enabled me to extoll the virtues and history of Mr Steve Poltz to many of my neighbors and passers by. It was after this show that I stalked and bagged an delightful EDA named Sharon (expect it...if you are wearing an EDA shirt and I sight you..you're mine...muwahahahahaha). I know I scared/scarred her a bit... I am just so enthusiastic! To make up for it I introduced her to Kris and Larry (who promptly took her off to procure her an EDA Poster). We assembled quite a group of EDAs (30+)outside the gates to the venue and have a great time reminisccing and saying yet more goodbyes. As we EDAs dispersed for the last time that weekend we knew that this was but the beginning of times to come and screamed so like loons at each other :) Oh yeah..and the hugs...the glorious hugs...sigh...what a way to end the weekend... === Take Care Angels, Jason V Arunsun on IRC & ICQ Arnsun on AOL IM ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Jul 1999 13:01:33 CDT From: "Brian H" Subject: * Re: RE: MrBB-FREE Jewel Sticker for your Vote! Ok, I can't help but post on this subject. People are saying that they shouldn't have the sticker vote thing because not everyone can get it. There is a difference between North American fans and all of the other international fans, and that is that there are more of them from North America. I know that isn't the main reason but it is just foolish in a lot of ways. I agree that when I read that, I did think that it was kind of unfair. Me personally I would be upset if it said for Australia only or something like that. But you also have to notice that nobody is complaining about the Australian 2CD release. But then when North America gets free stickers, you guys go of complaining. I think that we are arguing over a pointless subject. Me personally, it reminds me of a little boy going to his mom whining to her because he didn't get to have a toy that his older brother did. It is very immature, and close to pathetic. This is my opinion, and I don't think that you are a bratty little kid or something, or that you yourself are pathetic, I am just commenting on the opinions, because they are very strong here. ;o> ߮I@N "The Jelly Doughnut of an Angel" halaasb@hotmail.com <-- To contact me personally lifeuncommon@hotmail.com <-- Contact regarding Life Uncommon ICQ: 40694569 AIM: brianh5036 http://get.to/lifeuncommon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Jul 1999 14:44:24 -0400 From: Lisa M Skylling Subject: * Pittsburgh Concert I was just wondering if there are any EDA's in the pittsburgh area who are planning on going to the concert on August 3rd? It's just the FACT that there are contests (especially in the USA) where only American people can win ... And it It's not only the JewelJK site, but also UBL or Sonicnet which have nice prizes, BUT ONLY for USA people .... That's what I want to make clear ... Here in Holland or even Europe almost all contests are for ALL people all over the world. But when I read the rules of USA contests I'm getting the impression that American people think they're very special or they differ from European or Australasian people ... They're NOT at all!
