I've called 104.5FM (ChumFM) and they don't have it.. the programmer didn't even know it was a single. I've called 99.9FM (MIX) and they hadn't heard of it. The only station I got any response from was 92.5FM (KISSFM). One of the programmers knew it and was very enthusiastic (he said "wow.. great song.. i love jewel!") but he didn't have time to play it, and when I called again the next guy had no idea what song I was even referring to! I haven't heard the new version yet and I REALLY want to hear it - can somebody give me either a radiostation in Toronto or some other means of hearing it! thankyou steve the angel who really doesn't want to give himself an angel name.... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Aug 1999 17:43:11 -0500 From: Courtney M Gordon Subject: * hey man Dear Angels, this is about the Metallica thing, even though I'm sure no one gives a gopher. I personally love Metallica (or Alcoholica, pick your preference) but this doesn't make me an alcoholic. metallica has always done whatever the hell they please and they've sold out every single concert since they released the Black Album. I know Jewel and Metallica are by far not the same, so maybe I shouldn't have even posted this but that's okay. Jewel's music really has nothing to do with what poltzie does after the shows. How about we end it? Hi folks :-) OK, it's already been pretty much proven that Steve Poltz handed empty containers out at the two shows, not the real thing. It was a joke that backfired and was upsetting to many and was also funny to many. Both sides can argue about the virtues and/or lack there-of about legally underage people and alcohol or smoking and about performers drinking. No one will win, no one will change anyone's mind. With the exception of the topic/discussion of what Jewel should do about it, this is totally NJC (and will likely snowball quickly into a 100% beer/teens/partytime thread) and it really belongs on a Poltz list or teens&booze@smoe.org. Besides, what any of us feels that Jewel should do about it, if anything, is really none of our business, nor will it matter one bit when you get right down to it. So what's the point in dragging this out? So, unless someone presents a Zapruder film (or an MPEG) of Steve, Jewel and the Girl & Boy Scouts guzzling a case of Coors and getting tatoos, I'd really *like* to see this thread end now, as it COULD last for days and it's not proving a thing or accomplishing a thing, except maybe wasting bandwidth and filling up mailboxes. Please, let's move on :-) Considering this is a Jewel list, while NJC is certainly allowed, I have a "policy" of REALLY REALLY trying to avoid *passionate* NJC threads from occuring on the list. An NJC subject that people generally have a strong opinion about qualifies as "passionate". These include religion, politics, abortion, Jar Jar Binks and certainly now legally underage alcohol consumption, cigarettes, artist alcohol consumption on stage (of course, legal in most cases) etc. Thread about these topics tend to snowball quite quickly, get redundant quite quickly, and people tend to get ticked off at a post or two, people get mad and then the complaints start to roll in. So, again, I'd really like to see this one end voluntarily. Not demanding this, just requesting it for the better of the 2,100 subscribers here. So the title is really "Run, Stupid, Run" but she used Tonto 'cause she liked the word. I have only a few words on this subject. Stop making a laugh of our beloved artists, and try not to analyze every movement they make. It's really annoying to read that you all have your opinions about how Jewel and Steve should be and more important how the have to behave. In my opinion Steve is a good and honest guy and has never dissapointed a fan. So leave him alone, and let him and Jewel focus on their concerts. That's what they do wonderful in my opinion. So i want to ask you again to try to experience the concerts more , and pay less attention to all the minor activities happening after a concert. I have the idea that you only want to make a comic joke of it, and try to confuse all our fans who believe in Jewel and Steve. So on my behalf i am going to ask some american fans of Jewel enjoy the concerts, and stop allerting us of those comments like : Steve is giving drink to a young girl, or Steve is smoking....blablablabla that's not what this list is about. I think this list is about Jewel her music, and how great Steve and Jewel sing vocals and guitar harmonly. So therefor for our sake, Every day angels and fans of Jewel listen and enjoy the concerts and do not report about minor incidents at the concerts in such capitals as i am reading lately. It's getting to be bored.. Thanks for having any sympathy for Jewel and Steve.....in the end only kindness matters and that is also a little bit respect for this great artists that you are discrediting at this moment by this silly comments. EDA's are not obliged to give a too colourful briefing of all what i call GOSSIP at the concerts. Of course news is cool, as long as it is the truth and not made up stories. Have fun, Michiel the dutch eda tape founder ps the ones who did request for the tapes thanks, for someones i didn't reply please try to mail me again as i get sometimes emailaddress bounced back. and other fans feel free to request this new two dutch Jewel eda tapes. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jul 1999 19:39:24 EDT From: ZZdeMosq@aol.com Subject: * NJC: Bearsville '99 - Angel Needs A Ride.....and a room!!! I also would like to know since I don't have a tent, if anyone that has extra space, would mind having me as a roomie. Don't all jump up at once! Hey Jewel Fans I just wanted to remind everybody who attends Jewel's concerts on this US tour. That every show should be taped and circulated. Using a portable cassette walkman will work fine. Though DAT's and other formats work better, they are more expensive. I know a lot of you don't have a lot of money to spend on recording equipment. I'll be trying to track down all of the recordings from each night. A lot of people get nervous about taping. It is not illegal. You won't get thrown out of the show The worst that can happen is that you will have to give up your batteries, or the tape. I've taped over 50 shows. Never have I had any problems with security. Have no fear, and tape away!!! So if any of you brave taper's out there have anything from this tour, please let me know. Mike :-) ***** We know you have many questions about what's going to be the greatest festival in the world! We'll try to answer them all. You probably already know that Woodstock '99, the 30th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair, is being held at July 23-25, at Griffiss Park in Rome, NY, about an hour west of Albany, easily accessible from the NYS Thruway. Griffiss Park is a former air force base which is very large indeed. So, your first rule of thumb is bring comfortable shoes! Almost all activities take place outdoors. Most camping and parking is adjacent to the festival site. There will be no camping at all in the stage or activity areas. There are some guidelines of what to bring, but nothing unusual for an event this size. Here's some answers to the most frequently asked questions. ADMISSION AND PARKING: Woodstock '99 officially begins at noon on Friday, July 23rd with the last performance Sunday night. Parking lots and camping areas will open Thursday noon and close by Monday noon. The $150 ticket price includes all music, camping and activities. There is an additional $7 transportation fee. Tickets are for all three days of the festival. Single day admission is not available. Most parking is located on-site. After you park, you will be directed to the camping area which is within walking distance. If you are in an off-site parking lot near-by, a shuttle bus will carry you to the camping area and festival grounds. There is no camping in the parking lots. Illegally parked cars will be towed and impounded by local police authorities. There will be 24 hour security at parking and camping areas. As is standard at many large events, no alcohol is allowed to be brought in and there will be a bottle and can search at various check points. Of course, attendees over 21 with legal ID will be welcome in the Beer Gardens. TRAVEL PACKAGES Air and bus travel packages are still available. You'll get your travel tickets, tickets to the festival - and someone else to do the driving. Air packages include 3 nights of stay at a deluxe Syracuse hotel, plus all transfers (20 hours/day) taxes and service charges. Flight package ticket buyers will receive support from Target Sport Adventures staff and have access to the backstage buffet in the VIP Village Saturday night. All flights are on Northwest Airlines. See www.targetsport.com for details, including departure cities and prices. Bus travel packages provide parking at your point of departure, a preferred camping area at the festival, and luxury motorcoach transportation. See www.ticketmaster.com for details, including departure cities and prices. CAMPING AND RVs: Camping at designated Woodstock '99 camping areas is included in the price of admission. Most camping areas are located on-site, adjacent to the festival grounds. If you're a late-comer, you may be directed to off-site parking near festival grounds, with shuttle busses to take you to the festival. Bring a small tent, something to sleep in (or on), a small cooler, plastic tarp and other weather-resistant gear. See a more detailed list of what to bring. Yes, there will be "camp stores" should you forget something. No cooking or fires are allowed. No alcoholic beverages allowed in the camping areas. Beer gardens are being provided -- strictly for those over 21 years of age. Many of you have asked about RVs. An RV is defined by us as any vehicle with sleeping accommodations. Although there will be designated parking areas for RVs, there are no facilities for hook-ups. RV parking could be designated on or off-site. If you are directed to an off-site RV parking area, you will be able to take a shuttle bus to the camping area and festival grounds. There are privately-owned RV parks in the Rome, NY area. You may want to make your own arrangements. Although it's the Woodstock tradition to get back to nature, we know some of you prefer a little more luxury. We suggest you check out our bus and air packages. The bus packages include transportation to the festival and camping in a central, "preferred" area. The air packages include transportation and lodging in a deluxe hotel. WHAT TO BRING If you don't want to bring your own camping supplies, Ace Hardware will have a store on site to sell all your camping gear needs. You can even pre-order and reserve tents, sleeping bags and air mattresses to be picked up at the Ace store on site by calling 1-888-336-7801 (ask for the Woodstock staff) or by checking out the special Woodstock section on www.acehardware.com. Other smaller items such as toilet paper, drinking water and batteries can be bought at the Ace store on site upon arrival. Sturdy, comfortable shoes and socks Sleeping bags, bedrolls, lightweight mats, blankets Small pillows Small pop-up tents Plastic (not metal) tent stakes Rain hats, slickers, and other rain gear Small tarps, plastic sheet Change of clothes for rainy, cold and very hot weather Non-aerosol insect repellent Non-aerosol sunscreen Mosquito netting Empty plastic containers Small cameras for personal use Plastic flashlight Backpack or other case to secure wallet and valuables Soap and other personal hygiene products Medicine with prescription and foods for special dietary needs What NOT to bring Pots and pans, lanterns, stoves or grills - there will be NO open fires on site Alcoholic beverages Illegal drugs or paraphernalia Weapons, firearms Metal objects: knives, axes, hatchets, shovels or tent stakes Glass or metal cans, bottles, containers Fireworks or incendiary devices Hazardous materials, including fuels of any kind Video cameras Tape recorders Umbrellas Air horns Lawn furniture Pets (except for seeing-eye dogs and assistance-trained Canine Companions) CHILDREN It's not a good idea to bring young children. Frankly, we don't encourage it. This is not an event geared to children, and our admission policy reflects that. If you bring a child, you must buy a full price ticket for him or her and you must register emergency contact information at the entrance gate prior to admission. PETS Sorry, no dogs or other animals allowed (except seeing-eye dogs, see disabled access). FOOD There will be hundreds of food outlets at Woodstock 99 serving up everything from hot dogs, tacos, pizza, sandwiches and salads, to diverse ethnic dishes and vegetarian fare, at a reasonable price. Because of spoilage concerns, please do not bring perishable foods on site with you, the exception being those who have special, documentable, dietary needs. JOBS People with a variety of skills are needed to work at Woodstock. Learn how to apply. VENDORS There will be two types of vending at Woodstock 99 -- food and non-food. People interested in vending food must be licensed and demonstrate a proven ability to be able to service large numbers of people. Other vendors will be selling many kinds of merchandise, clothing, jewelry, artwork, etc. NONPROFIT TABLING Woodstock '99 wants to include nonprofit groups to table in support of a variety of causes - just check our submission guidelines ATMs Sure, with everything from snacks to henna tattoos available, you'll be dropping a little cash. For your convenience, there will be ATM machines on site in case you find yourself a little short. CELL PHONES Don't depend on using your cell phone while at Woodstock '99. Be aware that although you may bring a cell phone, you may not be able to use it. Even if only 10% of attendees bring them, that could work out to 25,000 people trying to make cell calls at the same time! There just isn't enough capacity in the area to handle that volume of calls. There will be pay telephones, and a cyber-village where you may be able to post messages. SHUTTLE BUSSES All designated Woodstock '99 shuttle busses transporting festival-goers from off-site parking areas to the festival are free of charge, as are shuttle busses designated for the disabled. There are no shuttle busses transporting festival-goers between stages or activities. This is a large site. Comfortable shoes are a must! DISABLED ACCESS There will be facilities for physically disabled festival-goers, including designated parking areas close to festival grounds, designated shuttle busses, accessible toilets, and accessible food booths. There will be accessible viewing stands at the two main stages. Seeing eye dogs and Canine Companions specially trained to aid people with disabilities are, of course, welcome. BEER GARDENS There will be beer gardens on site, serving only those over 21 years of age. Photo I.D. must be shown at the entrance to each facility. ACTIVITIES In addition to the two spectacular main stages, Woodstock 99 will host: an Emerging Artists Stage; all-night live Raves in a gigantic airplane hangar; experimental theatre and a film festival; an Arts Village and Marketplace; the Cyber-Technology Park; Crafts Demonstrations; Video Walls; Ecology Displays; and the Action Lounge, a four acre extreme sports extravaganza. Stay tuned to Woodstock.com for more exciting details! GET INVOLVED You can sell food or crafts, or do nonprofit tabling. DATES July 23, 24, & 25 1999 LOCATION The 30th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair will take place in Rome, New York. The site of the Woodstock ’99 Festival will be the former Griffiss Air Force base, a picturesque location at the foot of the Adirondack Mountains.
