I am getting ticked at the people who talk about Jewel changing being bad Well, first of all, I just want to say to those of you that are unhappy that Jewel is changing, why? and gosh, that's not nice. I mean, really, we joined this list because of our adoration and love for her. I don't see how anyone can criticize Jewel (or anyone for that matter) about how a person changes, over time. People change over time, accept that fact. Whether you think it is for the better or worse, a person evolves by changing, so that as the person gets older and wiser, the person is happy with herself/himself in the end. I think that Jewel is a beautiful person, the inside being as important as outside, and she is ione of those wonderful people in the world trying to help others in need, and inspiring us, while she does help. she can wear anything she wants and do anything she wishes too. It's not our place to judge. We all have our faults... It's true we love the "old" Jewel, but We do love the "new" Jewel too! And another thing, there is "old" and "new" Jewel, she's still the same person. Despite changes in appearances, concerts, whatever. On the inside, in the heart where it matters, she is still and always will be our jewel. =) and I say kudos to you Mike! for pointing out how some of us are getting out of hand with the whole thing about how she should act and live, we are her fans, we weren't meant to badmouth jewel and say how she should be and act and dress and all that other stuff. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Jul 1999 00:48:22 PDT From: Darwin Cuenca Subject: * Stop criticizing Jewel!!! hi there, so i read all of ur complain about her, so pls. stop complaining that she changed. we all know that she's getting older and matured, and besides everything change sometimes. and we (Jewel' Fans) have no rights to say it, cos Jewel just perform to us but we have no rights to say that to her or say negative things cos we dont own her. we cannot change her, only she can change her self. and if u think she changed already and u dont like her music anymore, stop being a fan. i really hate to say this but i have to cos this issue getting complicated. i hope ur minds are really open to accept this. thank u. angel who needs a bike ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Jul 1999 20:05:33 EDT From: PENNY16161@aol.com Subject: * Woodstock on Pay Per View? Thanks. Yep, it sure is :-) Assuming your local cable company is going to carry it, the price tag is $59.95 for all three days (it starts at noon Friday July 23rd) You can buy any single day for $29.95 (Jewel is perfoming Sunday July 25th) You can get more info from your cable TV provider, and at http://www.woodstock.com Also, the http://www.woodstock.com site is presently mentioning a webcast but I haven't hunted around at the site to see what it's about. But I can say she's changed for the better. Her music is more mature, more polished ... perhaps with an even deeper meaning to her music and lyrics. So she's moved on. She's different. But in a way, she's still the same musician we first listened to back in the "Pieces of You" days. She still has talent, right? :) Juliet Dashwood ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jul 1999 13:20:48 +1000 From: "Christine Diefenbach" Subject: * Jewel's "Ever changing self" > EDAs, > I don't write often but I'd like you to know that Jewel is not a super > human. I am only writing because I never read "oh, i love her new way of > doing that" it's always a complaint! and when she changes something in her > "boring show", you don't like it, either! Please, not to do harm, make up > your minds! I don't think its so much that people have a problem with change but rather THE WAY in which Jewel has changed. A lot of people are posting saying.. "change is a part of life", "everybody changes" but that's not really the point... sure change is a natural part of life but its just that perhaps most people see the new Jewel as somewhat shallower and more superficial than the "old" Jewel (which isn't exactly a change for the better) .. Even the media seems to see this... I've read an article and a review on her in which she was labelled the new madonna on the front cover and also as the new "material girl" later on in the article and in the review the writer who had been to a recent concert of hers in April when the review was written stated that he didn't really appreciate Jewel's new "vocal acrobatics" and had rather liked her old singing style... I'm not saying I agree with these writers (especially about the vocal acrobatics cos I like whatever singing style) but just thought i'd share that. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Jul 1999 23:18:28 EDT From: GiggleLily@aol.com Subject: * My Coments Hi, Angels!! I just have a few things I would like to comment on. Its my opinion, and you can agree or disagree. First of all, many of you say that Jewels "changes" are not really her doing. Many think that its her record label that is pushing her to be the way she is. But I remember Jewel saying that the reason she went with Atlantic Records was because they were the only label that would let her put out her record the way she wanted. An honest interpretation of herself at that point in her life. They allowed her to record POY in a coffeehouse instead of a studio and they didn't change or try to fix her missed notes or wrong chords. Jewel is a big girl and although I don't know her she seems like a person that wouldn't let anyone walk all over her or allow someone to force her to wear, sing or do something she didn't want to. I have zero problems with the way Jewel is. Maybe I'm wrong, but unless informed other wise that is what I think. My second grievance, is all the criticism. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and these opinions are what keeps the list jumpin'! But one thing I can't stand is flat out criticism. There are two types of criticism. Constructive criticism and criticism. Criticism is pointless in this list and causes nothing but argument, but constructive criticism can be helpful and it is something that I can tolerate. I hate negativity. Well, thanks for reading. I love you all and respect your opinions even if I don't agree. Recently I have seen some posts about yelling or screaming at a concert and wanted to give my view on it. I have to admit that I have yelled/screamed at a concerts before. I don't see anything wrong with as long as your not yelling all the time. Sometimes you get caught up in the music or the moment and you just have to let out a scream! You know what I mean!! Or even sometimes when an artists starts my favorite song I might let out a few yells. I could not imagine a concert where no one yelled at all. I think it would be kinda boring. I'm not the type of person to yell all through the concert, but a few here there is no big deal to me. I found it kind of odd when someone posted a message about Jewel telling some fans to shut up because they were yelling. First of all that would embarrass me and make me feel like Jewel didn't appreciate my support. I suppose if they were yelling excessively and interrupting her Jewel had the right to ASK them to be quiet. I just think a few yells or scream here and there are no big deal at a concert. We go to have fun and enjoy the music. Take care all.
