In response, here's two things I've always thought to be true of every musician I know: At best, studio albums occasionally give a glimpse of a musician's interests & talents at that point in time that they were recorded. They only represent a tiny blip in time. It doesn't matter what songs comprise a setlist. It only matters how the songs in any setlist are performed. Well anyhow I’ve liked Jewel for five years. Some of you probably liked her longer, probably since she first came out. Well I’ve been reading the e-mails about people saying oh well Jewel sang this song in a different way and it sounded bad, or Jewel made a mistake in that song. Who cares! No one’s perfect. Some of you think that Jewel has to do everything right and sound as perfect as she does on her album, and when she does something wrong you have to go and diss her out. I went to the Portland Jewel show last night (July 1) It was so wonderful.... I was in aww. Steve Poltz is amazing, he has a great talent, and I was cery impressed. I have a problem though, that I hope someone will help me out with. I brought my camera in, and I got the film developed this morning, and I was sad to find out that my pictures didn't turn out. not a one. Something must have happened to the film. I was hoping that an angel on the list had their camera there, and their pics turned out. I would pay to get some copies. Pretty Please. This was my first Jewel experience, and I was hoping to have some memories. I've been a jewel fan for as long as I can remember, and it would mean the world to me. I don't think that any of us should hold back our comments about Jewel regaurdless of their nature because this is a JEWEL DISCUSSION list. (Which I've taken to mean it's for discussing Jewel, as naturally it would.) But I also don't think it's right to say Jewel shouldn't have done this that and the other thing. i think that if she wants to be experimental with her looks and her music then dammit she should be able to. I personally think she looked great in the much disputed Letterman appearance, and I loved the song too. Sure, it was different and she changed it around a lot, but there isn't a single person on this list that can honestly say that they are the same person now as they were when they were 4. We all change and experiment with different things, and I think if Jewel decides she wants to do that, she can. So the music is sped up or slowed down, so what? The lyrics are still the same, are they not? Of course everyone on this list is entitled to have varying opinions. Obviously. But we all have rights to, as does Jewel, to change and experiment without everyone jumping down our or Jewels throat because, how dare she show any change at all? Because isn't it Hershey's that say change is bad and of course that must apply to everything. Oh my God, someone call an ambulance because Jewel has decided she's not the same person now as she was a while ago. I like the "new" Jewel.
