This council consists of 12 list veterans, not including myself. I stayed out of this. The council determined that the relative minority on this list was 100% right. Jewel HAS changed for the worst, and she and/or her management team has absolutely no clue what-so-ever how to: a] run her life b] choose a set list c] select a sponsorship(s)/partnership(s) d] make album decisions e] have a reasonable fashion-sense f] choose what to wear between her chin and hairline. g] choose boyfriends h] pick cities/states/countries/planets for concerts (an EDA from Jupiter is royally pissed she has a song "Jupiter" yet has NEVER BEEN THERE ) i] choose what stories to tell and when j] select a client for a chat with fans (AOL vs IRC vs ICQ vs a web site) k] choose a bar to hang out in after a gig l] and so on........ It looks like they are all totally lost. So effective later this month, the EDAs take over her life and career for at least the rest of this year. (these will be reviewed after the new year, assuming the world does not come to an end because of the Y2K bug) EDAs sad that Jewel has changed will be happy to know that she can no longer even change a light bulb without list approval. Policies/Panels/Committees/Teams in effect as of the July 23rd concert at the PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ are: 1) Make-up Patrol - Captained by Sean "No Revlon" Hooks, the patrol will be in Jewel's dressing room prior to every single event she does the rest of this year. Sean will be armed with a state of the art MUDS-2000 (Make Up Depth Sensor, Y2K compliant) with cutting-edge radar that can be calibrated to "sense" most varieties of makeup. He will use this device to measure the thickness of Jewel's makeup and not allow it to be greater than 0.090909mm (one-eleventh mm), as we all well know that makeup thickness is reverse-proportional to the quality of performance and the "depth" of lyrics. She will also not be allowed to wear any rouge, eye-shadow/liner nor any glitter. 2) Set List Approval Panel - an already selected panel of 13 EDAs (to be changed monthly) will select Jewel's set list for every show/appearance for the rest of the year. No two (or more) shows in any seven day period shall have more than five songs in common with ANY of the other shows in that same seven day period. Jewel has over 687 songs in her archive, so with any luck we'll have some shows with a complete set list of songs NO ONE has ever heard. This panel will have the added responsibility to ensure that each set list contains 75% songs that Jewel regularly plays the guitar on. 3) Fashion/Wardrobe SWAT Team - simple enough, this team of EDAs has the huge responsibility to make sure Jewel does not wear any skirts that are more than 6" above the top of EITHER knee (any TRUE EDA/fan would know she has one leg shorter than the other, which one and by how much). They will also be in charge of making damn sure she wears nothing that makes her look chunkier or slimmer than the last time we saw her. Of course, she will not be allowed to wear the wristbands anymore (sorry Jewel, EDA rules), nor can wear the same color top (or dress) in any three show period. Other Fashion/Wardrobe SWAT Team policies concerning fashion are pending since we have the entire Tommy Hilfiger catalog (now in Jewel's closet) to mull over. 4) Concert Venue Choice Team - this team is not needed. Jewel has agreed to perform one show this year in every state in the USA, province in Canada, planet in our solar system and every country on Earth, with the exception of Israel (we just don't have the time to fit in Israel...sorry Abby, Avihu & Mr Regev). Once all the shows are performed, Jewel gets her horse Chance back safe and sound. (She agreed, yes. However we had to make her an offer she couldn't refuse). 5) Boyfriend Approval Committee - to the EDA Committee (to be randomly selected from applicants) Jewel must submit in writing, along with 4 pictures of each boyfriend candidate, a dossier of each male she might want to date within the next three months. If Jewel should decide she would like to date a woman, considering the uproar it would cause with a loud minority on this list, approval of the female candidate(s) would be voted on by every EDA with web access at a web page to be named later. (if you don't have web access, well, that's tough sh*t! Don't complain, go get it!). In either case, while the EDAs are in control of her life and career, she will not be allowed to date an EDA. So if you are still hopeful to win her heart, to remain eligible, it's best you vamoose now. 6) Weekly Online Chats With Jewel - Jewel will have one online chat with fans each week. Format/client on a rotating basis. (If you don't have that particular client/program/access, well, that's tough sh*t! Don't complain, go get it!). 7) Future Album/CD Category Choice Policy - Simply enough, a list of every musical category recognized by Rolling Stone will be sent to the list and we vote on her next CDs' category/genre (after the Holiday/Christmas CD, the EDA Council decided to let her choice for this next one stand). Yes, Polka WILL be one of the categories. 8) Story Tellers/Spontaneity Panel - All previously "performed" stories will be cataloged. Jewel can never again tell the same story within a "4 concert/appearance" window, nor can she EVER again tell the same story either immediately after nor before the same song. Considering the same 688 song archive and 27 stories, with an average 15 song set list, we figure this can be upheld until the year 2053. 9) After-Gig Bar Policy - Once Jewel enters a bar after a performance, she HAS to stay there at least 45 minutes. For each show she fails to show up at a bar afterwards, 15 minutes is added to the "must stay" time for the next performance. Each time she violates this policy and leaves early, she owes the EDAs another JewelStock. Each new JewelStock site to be chosen at random by throwing a dart at a spinning/flipping globe tossed into the air (Israel IS eligible for this). 10) Sponsorship/Partnership Policy - Jewel can no longer team up with ANYONE as a sponsor or partner for them, nor them for her. She's on her own now. Every single potential partner/sponsor has something deep and evil that some EDAs will dig up b*tch about. She WAS going to have "Got Milk?" as a sponsor, but one EDA dug up the info that a small milk farm in Trinidad & Tobago employs 13 year olds and pays them below the T&T minimum wage of 1.38 Klimotars an hour, so they had to nix that idea. The moral of the story is.......the negativily on this list is once again quite redundant and VERY BORING. Any chance we can remove Jewel from underneath the microscope for a while, stop bitching about every little thing and just ENJOY THE MUSIC? Any? They would all know every song they might possibly play in concert... they learn each song equally.... they have been developing all their songs over a period.. and they've also been playing with one-another for a while. When you have that kind of situation it's not difficult to vary the setlists. this is the same as when jewel was playing by herself - she was the only one she had to contend with. in the dave matthews band you have more than one person, but you can be assured that they all know their parts on every song.. so you don't have a problem in just doing whatever comes into your mind. with jewel's band it's completely different - they've only been playing together for a short time and most of the band members wouldn't know a lot of jewel's songs. she's trying to put on a big rock show WITH a band.. and since the band doesn't know all her material she has to be specific as to what they have to learn for the shows... and what they have to rehearse. she does vary her acoustic setlists somewhat, but the fact that she plays with a band limits her to varying the entire setlists as much as she used to jewels' NOT a band.. she's just trying to make her music more interesting by playing with a band.. she's trying to do different styles. it's just very difficult to turn around to a band every song and explain the key and rhythm. sure, they might catch on.. but even the BEST of musicians can't do a fantastic job in that kind of situation... it'd be like a jam session. and that's worse that the repetative setlists. maybe if they'd had more time before the tour to rehearse they could've learned a LOT of jewel's songs.. but that couldn't happen. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jul 1999 18:44:53 EDT From: SilentEDA@aol.com Subject: * info about houston eda gathering? 8 days til.... hi!
