I decided to check out the recent Letterman performance because the posts i read on the list sounded like it was the end of the world(ahhhhh) anyways, i downloaded from http://w3.one.net/~alien/html/jewel_main.html which is an awesome site and watched it i LOVED the new version it was cool, it had a musical l kick and it seemed like there was more passion and soul in it, I truly enjoyed it. I don't care for commercial music and i don't see anything commercial about the new version. Jewel can do whatever she wants. Her message of hope are still there and she is very musically talented. This is just complete b.s. When I was told yesterday, initially I was okay with it...upset, but okay. Then I got home yesterday and Cilla (who's coming from New Orleans this weekend, and very anxious to see me) and I talked about it, and I just got very angry. Why even call this and EDA concert anymore? Isn't that false advertising? The "EDA concert" has now become "Special Appearance By." I figure by this weekend, the other 2 EDAs who are playing are gonna get knocked off as well. Hell, they only get like 10 minutes anyway. SO how much time is booked anyway? I'm assuming the "special appearances" get about an hour. And then there's Rizioule, who is just an EDA himself, but probably gets a good amount of time himself. Maybe I'm being judgemental in assuming this, but to me it seems like he started this thing with the facade of it being for us, the EDAs...and now it's just a chance for him to get to play in front of all these people. There are 2 EDAs coming from way out of town (Louisiana and Ohio) who were very excited about me playing...and it's very inconsiderate to knock the whole concept of this concert just to get a few famous names in. Concerts This Weekend It has come to my attention that several people are upset about the way the EDA concerts this weekend worked out. And I'm not sure if Mike posted their emails, but here is my response. I understand your frustration. Believe me, I've been there. But this being our first effort at coordinating an EDA concert here in Southern California, concessions had to be made. I've done my best to get all the EDAs who asked to perform a slot at one of the concerts. But because the San Diego event is becoming so high profile, this has been nearly impossible. I've been working hard to help make this a fun event -- even if it is not what I originally envisioned. I would love to have a concert with nothing but EDAs performing. With the success (hopefully) of this weekend's concerts, we're in a better position to plan something like that. We'll have been through the process and know more about how to plan it. The reality is, there would be no concerts without Rizioule. I certainly don't have the time to do all the legwork -- I don't know of many that do. And whatever his motivations, Rizioule has helped to get lots of publicity for the events and found great locations for us to use. Locations that would probably love to have us perform there again if this weekend goes well. I for one am very excited about this weekend's activities and look forward to planning concerts where EDAs will be more prevalent. But until then, we've got two great shows for you this weekend. Think of them as the precursor to better things. :-) Hope to see you all there!
