WARNING: Mindless rambling ahead. :) tuesday was wicked hot. i took a half day off of work and got to amy's apartment to find dennis and chris already there. i quickly got out of my shirt and tie and into a comfortable t-shirt and shorts. we took the PATH train into nyc, and got to the studio just at the requested time of 6pm. PLEASE NOTE: some people *ABEL* didn't get to the studio at the prescribed time. :) after some mindless waiting in an empty cafeteria, we were then exposed to an excruiating ceremony that required us to see the show's producer as jewel, and then ask him/her questions that were of a relevant nature to the show, in the hopes of acquiring a blue index card that would enable the recipient a choice seat *B@LLSH!T* at the next day's taping. well, once that charade was over, we gathered outside the studio to figure out what to do next. some people left. the rest of us decided to have dinner together. so we saw a bum on the street and then proceeded to kill him and eat him. actually, we went to a restaurant on 18th called America, so it was pretty much the same thing. it was a lot of fun. chris and i split an appetizer of nachos that prohibited me from finishing my burger (which i had for breakfast the next morning). lots of talking, then some more talking, and we finished up with a little more talking. some people talked so much that they had a full plate of food when everyone else had finished their dinner 20 minutes earlier *DENNIS*. afterwards, we went to a bar called Pieces on Christopher St at kelli's desire and johnny's suggestion. it was a short walk (if you call 14 blocks short) from the restaurant. and at the end of our journey, we found out it was a gay bar. i'd never been in one, so this would be interesting. we found a booth space right by the entrance and proceeded to drink and be merry. then we did some more of that talking stuff. johnny and kelli sang "Summer Nights" as their karaokee choice. not surprisingly, all the guys in the bar sang along. after that, it was late, and the leftovers (me, dennis, chris and mike) left kelli, johnny and tom to fend for themselves and sing more broadway hits. the four of us got back to amy's apartment in a drunken stupor. i got my revenge on amy's cat by placing him in the freezer overnight in an experiment to observe the effects of freezing on a feline. we thawed him out in the morning before amy woke up, and he seems to have suffered no ill effects. then we did the pre-show gathering. it was a lot of fun. we (me, chris, mike, johnny, tom, kelli, iris, shawn, james, laurah, abel, alice) met in front of Tower Records in the village. after 10 minutes of group picture taking, we finally proceeded to a cd store, Kim's, on st. marks place. after that, we went to the Warner Bros Store to watch the 3D movie on the top floor, then to the Houlihan's under FAO Schwarz for a quick bite before the show. some of us did a quick change in the bathroom and then proceeded to the studio. it was 4pm and there was already a line of at least 20 people in front. we were soon ushered into a side entrance where we were herded like cattle into a small room with no air conditioning. that way, we would be more appreciative (and look happier) when it came time for the taping. after an unsuccessful round "let's get to know each other!", dennis finally showed up with woody, and the side room was soon full of wanna-be cowboys. Yee haw!!! johnny tried to pass the time by playing the "Lift Ticket To Ride" show in the vcr. we then all enjoyed the warm glow of the tv. but that was soon broken up by the announcement of a bathroom break where those who had to go were herded out and around the building in a similiar fashion to the way we entered. it was actually cooler outdoors than inside the holding pen, and if we were smart, we would've been better off staying outside and being first in line, since we were just brought out there again. nice system *SARCASM ALERT!*. the show was good. afterwards, we all stood around and prevented police from driving into their parking garage. we're good little angels! then jewel left. goodbyes were said to those leaving, and the rest of us headed for the infamous bar on 11th between A and B with the Guiness sign in the window. jewel came and left. steve and lee showed up and stayed. cool guys. the knicks won! the bartenders were really friendly. the stage manager was really cool or a jerk depending on what part of the night you were there. but it got late, and everyone left one by one. lee had a crush on abel. amy and i finally got back to her place at 2:30am. i was so exhausted, i stayed over that night and got to work late the next day. all in all, it was a fun experience. but i must say that i thoroughly enjoyed meeting and hanging out with everyone more than i did the show. but it was a good show. the people were just more fun. i can't wait to see everyone at bearsville and the pre-show gatherings. take care.
