Spirit is a lot more mature than Pieces of You and its much more serious and not the "simple song" type like in Pieces of You. The DSL video seemed to be similar to what you've been saying about her new image.. Even though musically, she's more mature than she was in Pieces of You, and maybe she dresses differently... inside she's still the same person. Anyway, Jewel likes to do a lot of different things, and she'll always be changing..You may not always be a fan of the way she dresses or maybe you may not always like every performance she does, but she'll still be the same person. Remember that..she tries to reach every kind of audience, so stick by her, you'll never know what she'll do next. Thats part of what's interesting about her. *Jade* ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jun 1999 00:34:03 -0400 (EDT) From: phyre Subject: * njc: changing . . . still? since this is a subject that just refuses to die i might as well jump on board - first i would like to say that everything changes except this debate which seems to defy all the laws of the universe by going on forever without any variation. second i would like to relay a skit from an early episode of Mr. Show (a comedy on HBO that no one ever watches even though it is the funniest thing on tv) -- this is what i think about every time this argument resurfaces. dave plays a real annoying guy who keeps bugging his friend bob(?) - dave leaves and bob goes "he used to be really nice - boy - he's really changed." bob wanders on alone for awhile then looking up at a tree goes "those leaves used to be green - boy - they've really changed." then he walks out in the middle of a dimly lit street and stands looking up at the traffic light "boy - that light used to be red . . . it's really changed" then a semi comes flying down the road and flattens him. just thought i'd share that. phyre out - ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ phyre in the sky - with diamonds. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ /\/\/\/\ "other people are all there is" /\/\/\/\/\/\/\ /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\"if you are bored try evolving - it can be fun!" co031@freenet.buffalo.edu ^^^/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jun 1999 16:08:06 EDT From: JewelAng@aol.com Subject: * blue guitar and DSl lyrics Hello all, I'm looking for two things. 1. Jewel's lyrics (and their delivery) have meant a lot to me over the years and I was hoping to find a discussion of them on this list...unfortunately it seems most of the posts are about tour related info and style concerns...(ughh!!..we might as well be talking about Alanis M:) In my lurking however, I did come across some posts which closed with lyrics from Jewel songs I'd found important and more directly meaningful than anything she has put out on an album (e.g.Circle Song & Flower). Do other EDA's get this as well? I'm thinking that some must but keep their discussion closed. I've had a longing for sometime now to talk with someone who felt and understood this message of hers... Not a day goes by in which I don't have a new "Jeweliphany" I can't share. Yesterday for example I slipped into a thriftstore to escape a thundershower and spent the afternoon reading the 1959 autobiography of Princess Wilhelmina of the Netherlands,"Lonely But Not Alone". It could have been written by Jewel. "The reader will have recognized that a desire for honesty, sincerity and truth in human relationships, in short, for being *together* in the sense in which God intends it, was at the bottom of my ambition." (pg87) I spent a year in Holland during college and have ever after thought there is an understanding that the Dutch share which makes their daily living a joyful, nearly holy,experience...something I have come to realize we grievously lack in the States. >From reading Wilhelmina's book I see now how the leadership of the Netherlands understood that the creation and sustaining of this daily celebration of life's real communion (for lack of a finer term:) was,and hopefully still is, their ultimate purpose and goal. I hear Jewel expressing the same and fighting for it...I believe she is something like a noble of the spirit...wise and free and concerned for our soul's well-being here, now and for the future...The question I ask myself is,"how do we who see do our part?" If you have the time and are inclined I'd be very interested in sharing in this spirit... It sucks, but at least I finally get to go see Jewel. I'm definitely bringing my binoculars. Does anyone know if they have those huge tvs there? Sherry The Dancing Winterguard Angel P.S. I will be calling the printing company tomorrow morning and ordering the first batch. So everyone make sure you get your order in tonight or tomorrow morning if you want it accounted for. The first batch order will be made for all the checks I have recieved by tomorrow, otherwise I will be doing a second batch order in about a week. The second batch order will be made for all the checks that I will receive by the 20th of this month. You all should know that the last day I am excepting payments is the 20th of this month. Now onto another related topic... My mailbox has been swamped as you can imagine with emails asking if I can postpone the last day to order...The answer to that is No. BUT there is a possible way around this. Lots of people have been asking for extensions so here is what I MIGHT do. Depending on how high the demand is for the shirt after I close the ordering will depend upon weather I open ordering up again at a later date. the key words here being LATER DATE. I will have no problems with people sending me requests to make more shirts or except more orders...BUT I will not except anymore orders at that time. If I do decide to make more shirts and except more orders you will know because I will do another post like this one. On a final note... I want to thank everyone that helped in this project..even though the list is small I thank you for your "virtual" support. I have certainly enjoyed doing this project and spent the majority of my time organizing it and making the best of everything that came my way over the last few months. I hope everyone has appreciated the work I have done and maybe... just maybe Jewel will hear of my devotion to our friendly little organization called the EveryDay Angels. I would be happy to lead any other projects that the EDAs would like to get going....just no tape trees :-) Thanks Everyone, Rich "The angel, that after 3 years on the list, still can't come up with a good name, guy" Long Project Leader P.S. There is a difference between being critical and being rude. Just saying you didnt like the song and explaining your point of view is fine with me. Then I can think about what you said. But thrashing about like a wildman and nitpicking (might me spelled wrong) about every little thing she does and joking what she wears and how she dances. When did we all become vain??? Jewel makes the song and interprets it. good: "I really didnt care for how Jewel changed the song." bad: "What the f*ck did Jewel do to that song??? Is she on crack!" Get it! Sorry if anyone is offended by this email. I tried to calm down before I wrote this. I >> did manage to meet Dennis Harris and a few other list vets at >> Harborlights. Is there gonna be a get-together here also? *** Kevin answered most of them, but this one needed some clarification: >Last time I spoke with Dennis, he had mentioned wanting to do something >before or after, not sure on the details, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of >EDAs there. Jury's still out on whether or not I'm going to make it, but I'd >like to. Okay, it's still a ways off, but I know there will be MANY EDAs at the July 27th Tweeter Center show! This venue is less than 3 miles from my home, and we will indeed have a gathering! If the weather is good, we'll tailgate it (ie, barbeque) in the venue parking lot, and maybe swing back by my place if everyone is still keyed up after the show. If the weather is bad (unlikely) we'll do something at my house before/after the show (or both)! Anyone who doesn't have a ticket yet, get one. The lawn seats are great in that this is a very small venue, they have big video screens and the best way to experience it is on a blanket or two spread across the lawn, dancing under the stars (I have a venue seat for only the second time in twelve years, but I imagine I'll gravitate back to the lawn during the show). This is an easy venue to reach, park at, enjoy a relatively small show, and get out with not much hassle. The three weeks prior to this show a group of us will be on the "Wild and Wooly Woody 1999 World Tour", which starts in Austin, Texas, right after the fourth of July weekend, then proceeds to cities where Jewel is playing (Dallas, Houston and New Orleans). EDA gatherings will happen at ALL these shows! If you are an EDA who lives in any of these towns, please join us! And if you want to really get to know some EDAs and get on the fast track, offer to put us up for the night :-) Luna and Amy don't bite, and I will be on my, errr, best behavior. Meet Woody the Plywood Cow and see the Jewel autograph on his nose and the AOL "wordypass" on his keister! And we'll juggle for you, rope each other, and play the guitar or something. ;-) Honestly, we are one entertaining bunch of travelers who would rather not resort to partying with Holiday Inn staff all night! In fact, in the cities that we cannot find generous EDAs to put us up, I will brand those cities as forever "EDA UNFRIENDLY", and good luck getting another Jewel show there EVER! (ominous music, overproduced of course! ;-) That's right, the Harris Family (tm) curse will settle over your city like smog in LA! In three years, we have NEVER been to an EDA town where someone didn't open their doors (and hearts), and well, as a native Austinite, I'm gonna be real red-faced if it happens in Texas first... In fact, after Tom and I roadtripped it to New Orleans for Mardi Gras earlier this year, I was so impressed that I actually LIFTED a curse on that city (notice how quick you Louisiana folks got your first Jewel show?) -- don't make it your last! ;-) After the Texas/Cajun roadtrip and meeting all the hospitable EDAs down south, it's back up to the New York backwoods for camping at BEARSVILLE '99, then into New York City for the kick-butt MacExpo (everyone please make the secret MacEDA hand gesture), then on to WoodYstock and EDA TENT CITY! *woo-hoo!* Now THAT is a recipe for the biggest, baddest EDA roadtrip of the millenium! And you are all invited... :-) Any questions?
