I suppose it all depends on taste, really. If one is sophititcated and wordly, they may like POY, but they will relate better to Spirit. If one is still trying to get somewhere in the world, maybe in high school, or having a bad time in life, then POY is for them. I personally think POY was more creative, she explored a lot more in it. Spirit's too BOOM, BOOM! Straight away, it's right in your face. I agree with what the guy said when he said she was more naive in POY. She's growing up and out, and it's a terrible feeling for her fans, but it may be exactly what she needs, personally. - -Jennifer "the singalong angel" - ---------- > From: MiStiCBuRn@aol.com > To: jewel@smoe.org > Subject: * Re: Maturity of spirit. > Date: Thursday, 27 May 1999 12:18 > > i loved spirit....her words are so much more insightful on this album...she > isnt just expressing her life, she is expressing everyone's...she's sharing > meaningful words in helping the world become a better place....Hands: a song > about no matter how small u are in a big world, one little thing can do a > lot. But is she really losing her innocence? What do you call innocence anyway? For me, i feel that she is regaining it. To me, jewel sounded very disillusioned with life's happenings in poy(dun get me wrong....i liked her better in poy), but seems to have started singing more happy songs sybolising new beginnings and enlightenment in spirit. Is that really so bad?....or are we just dissapointed that she can't stay sad forever and inspire us with the sad songs? Hi fellow angels This is my first post so hello to all of you.. I just went to see Jewel in Denmark on May 14, which was absolutely wonderful - we met her and Steve, so we were very excited. BUT...Can it be true that Jewel is performing on the Roskilde Festival in Denmark on July 4th??? Apparently the Danish newspapers think so, but it does seem strange with Jewel being on her U.S. tour at that time. Could she possibly be flying in for that one concert? I definitely hope so, but it seems unbelievable..Could anybody confirm or deny this?? Thank you Camilla *the hopeful angel* "Lend your voices only to sounds of freedom no longer lend your strength to that which you wish to be free from." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 13:24:35 +0300 (IDT) From: Michael Regev Subject: * Re: Maturity of spirit + Re:'s > From: Abigail Greif > was something about "spirit". the guy, who's name I > don't remember (sorry!) said that Spirit was more > mature than poy. Jewel has moved from "why've you gotta tell me if I'm hated?" (protect innocence) to "it's time we build a place where people's souls may be seen and made safe" (maintaining innocence). > From: Alex Oudshoorn > too me, jewel is loosing her innocence, as we all do. and it breaks my > heart. i disagree wholeheartedly. she may be losing some of her naivette, but certainly not her innocence. otherwise, she wouldn't be saying that "i am never broken". > From: RowdiusEDA@aol.com > I like spirit, and it does get played here inmy hacienda. my only > problem with spirit is that I've heard some of the songs in their live form. > They are powerful and overwhelming live.Take Enter from the east for > example.. the first time I heard it, I was blown away.don't get me wrong, > the version on the album is good, but it seems to lack some of the power of > the other versions I've heard.I would recommend searching the web to find a that, to me too, is the problem with spirit. its melodies lack the zest, the energy, the anger that they possess live. i mean, for crying out loud, singing a song like innocence maintained calmly and quietly, rather then angrily and trying to bring the sky down with rage at the way the world revolves... that hurts. > From: "Darwin Cuenca" > i read some of ur sides but i think its not jewel's fault to recordall of > the songs in studio, it was patrick leonard's fault who produced the album. > he is the one who wants the album to be recorded in studio, and not the live > version. and jewel are nothing to do with it but do as the producers wants > to. so stopdoing this to jewel, okay. i hope the ur thoughts are > enlightened. i think this response angered me more then any other. is jewel a puppet, who has no say in how her songs will sound on her own album? the producer may have a lot of impact on a record, but if an artist puts her foot down, especially on something like this, she has the final say. maybe patrick leonard managed to convince jewel that this way is better, maybe it was the other way around, but spirit could not have sounded like this without jewel feeling that this is what it should sound like. > From: MiStiCBuRn@aol.com > > i loved spirit....her words are so much more insightful on this album...she > isnt just expressing her life, she is expressing everyone's...she's sharing > meaningful words in helping the world become a better place....Hands: a song > about no matter how small u are in a big world, one little thing can do a > lot.Life Uncommon: Live your life with love and bravery. Mine is an import of course, not a promo, and has DSL, Fat Boy (live), and I'm Sensitive. Which version is this? It was stated that the UK single only had DSL on it. I arrived there at 19:00 to see Alanis, Heather Nova and a rocking Faithless, but I didn't care about that I wanted to fawkin' see Jewel Why were you so late, you might ask? Well I just had 3 days of Dynamo Open Air which were absolutely fantastic (Metallica, Mercyful Fate, Static X., Biohazard etc.) But I had to bring a girl from St. Louis (long story) to Schiphol and therefore it took me hours and hours and hours to Landgraaf. However I did get my mom to tape the Jewel interview and 2/3 songs, so that was somewhat cool, I also bought a Jewel t-shirt, her tourbook and the spirit-bonus. I could write down the Pinkpop interview, but I did that with Paul de Leeuw and only half of it is showing, so fawk that If anybody has taped the concert in full, please mail me, 'cause I want it. We might work something out Later, Maffeaap aka Jeroen Thijssen The angel who's thinking about going to Woodstock ps. I don't give a derriere about the way Jewel looks, the music is most important. Plus her lovely character... I don't care if she looks fashionably correct, just look at one of those modelshows, nobody EVER wears that shit... Besides Jewel is herself in wearing what she wears, so I encourage her to not dress "sharp" or whatever. Subject: * Fun question Does anyone know what the largest EDA gathering was? As far as how many EDA's were present? It could be over a weekend, or whatever, as long as it was still the same "gathering". For example, Jewelstock was 2-3 days I believe. I was just curious if anyone ever kept tabs on this. I'm thinking one or two gatherings may have been over 100 EDA's? Was Jewelstock the largest? Or were there others that were larger? The largest one *I've* been to was around 30 I believe. Not happening... Also, the European Tour Edition of Spirit is out now in Europe. It comes with a bonus live CD EP containing five tracks recorded live at Medicine College in Madrid. This was a private concert on February 11th earlier this year. The five live tracks are: Down So Long What's Simple Is True Foolish Games Do You Who Will Save Your Soul This special edition is only available in European markets. Everywhere else, its an import. Also very good news for the UK EDAs. On Monday, the 21st of June, BBC Radio 2 will broadcast the recording they made at the recent May 6th Cambridge England show. The BBC professionally recorded this with their mobile unit & the recording is quite nice. Not sure of transmission time, but I'm sure you UK folks can help each other find out. This will likely become a very popular tape to spread around to all EDAs. :-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 17:03:59 EDT From: StarSky26@aol.com Subject: *Finished Paper on Jewel** Ok everyone I finally finished my term paper for english on Jewel!!!
