They had a cartoon sketch of Jewel poetry and at first, i heard the guitar thing, and i reconized it right away. It started out with her reading and like really literal interpretations in the back. Then, the stars spelled out "this sucks" and "yawn" and then the tiger scared her and she started to sing WWSYS and Hands, then the tiger chased her off, ate her and brought in JOni Mitchell and she started singing Big Yellow Taxi. I guess it's kidna a pun because Joni's album is "tame The Tiger" but it was really funny. That way anyone who isn't >supposed to be there can be recognised. >5) Use the buddy system. If you will be leaving the site, take a buddy with >you. Especially after dark. >Thanks for listening. I feel much better now. Thanks for the wise words, Erin! I have been on this list since 1996 and have met over 600 EDAs face to face, and have always encouraged others to do the same. But it MUST be stressed that just because someone calls themself an EDA, doesn't mean they might not be a mean person, and possibly one who is looking to exploit you. BLINDLY TRUST NO ONE, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU'VE SEEN THEM POST OR HOW WELL KNOWN THEY APPEAR TO BE. When you do join in at an EDA gathering, let people know where you are going, and with whom. Also let the person(s) you are meeting KNOW that others are aware of exactly where you are (and that you are with them). Please be careful, angels. There are many of us on the list who do our best to look out for the others, but all it takes is one snake in the grass to create a tragic incident! The very trust and community we have built here can work against us if we don't exercise caution and keep in mind that we live in a world where not everyone is an everyday angel. If do you run into someone who tries to pull something on you, make sure that you warn the other EDAs. Enough preaching for now. Just please be cautious -- NOT fearful -- when meeting other EDAs, and follow as many of Erin's excellent suggestions as you reasonably can! :-) Dennis Harris ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 04:47:36 PDT From: "Bob Kroll" Subject: * Help! Being in one of the first countries to experience this "sacred" day (Australia) I must say that it has been a day of miracles - well kind of- for me! Having been very uninspired to write an extremely important monologue for my Drama class (Victorians will understand the pressure if the VCE!)the last few weeks, I finally found an angle to do it from thismorning! Don't know why God chose today - weird! Well, I thought so. Anyway, that was extremely irrelevant and most probably boring to everyone, but myself - sorry! What I really posted for was to ask two questions: 1 - On one of the angelfood tapes - I think its Rare Angels - before singing Behind the Wall, Jewel starts to sing Fast Car - another Tracy Chapman song - - but instead sings BTW. Does anyone know whether there is a recording of Jewel singing Fast Car in full, or even a verse or something? and... 2 - Does Jewel actually read the e-mails she gets sent through her web site? I wrote to her to wish her a happy birthday - I know that's pretty pathetic - - and I was just wondering if anyone knows whether she actually reads them. So, thanx for letting me crap on about nothing. Take Care everyone Jess ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 May 1999 23:59:39 +0200 From: "Roel Cobben" Subject: * May 23rd, 1999 ...... The first time I saw her was at The Palace, which only holds a couple hundred. Then she went to Oakdale which probably holds a couple thousand. Now she goes to the Meadows? She's going to the same Ampitheater as Jimmy Buffet, DMB, Aerosmith, etc. I just can't believe how much that sucks. The show has no chance of selling out, and it's going to be so big, no chance of interaction with the audience. It would be great if she decided to do a tour only going to small personal places, like the Palace, or smaller! There, now it is out of my system. Any who, I have 2 other things to say. In honor of Jewel's big 2 5 I decided to do something I would later regret. So I bought a huge piece of paper for parties (25ft X 10ft). So then in huge neon colors I put on "Happy Birthday Jewel Kilcher". Then I hung it off an overpass over the I-94 (I think it was that freeway...). Needless to say within 4 hours the local police took it down but at least near a few thousand people now know it is Jewel's birthday. Other news, I just got Jewel's POY (I know it has taken long enough) and I think it is the most amazing CD I've EVER heard. At a few songs I was in tears even! I think it is that powerful.
