Hello Angels, Yesterday Jewel did a tv show recording in Amsterdam (Paul de Leeuw show) I did attend the show with my best music-friend Stephan and he turned out to be the openening act of the tv-show.... The host invited him to open the show. We had seats on the second row. First row for special tickets. The day started and ended very crazy! First the recordings were just nice to watch. She did Down So Long (what else...). Jewel was wearing (fashion police again :-)) a nice grass green skirt on knee-height and the famous shoes in green also (Europeans do know what I mean). The top was small and multi-colored and was open at the back. I was satisfied with this fashion-attempt. Maybe the perfect dressed Jewel will perform someday.... :-) No kidding... she was looking fine. Before the show both Tony and Doug remembered our faces and I talked to Doug about his 4 year old son Ryan, about the hard times travelling. Also about what it is like being tired and still have to do a lot of travelling through Europe before flying back to the states. They are 'on the road' for a month now (?) and if they are tired right now it will get very hard indeed. He was talking about returning to Europe again in October so that was a pleasant surprise. Hope his memory was in shape on this hot spring-day. After the show we met Jewel at a lovely place behind the venue at the edge of a small water. There were seats and small tables. She had done an interview for a dutch newspaper and we patiently waited untill we got a signature. We asked for a picture and guess what....... she said it was ok but only 1 in total. Was just great. The awefull lot of make-up she was wearing for the recordings were blown away and she was smiling happily...... SCOOP !!! ??? I don't want to bring rumours in the world and I don't want to make pictures in secret but If I wanted to I just could have made pictures of Steve and Jewel holding hands.... kissing eachother on the mouth (more than friendly was my opinion) and just watching theirs eyes for some time. Ok, you can make your own conclusions but I did already yesterday. Why in front of fans? Is it a sign they would like to give / send out ??? My eyes are perfect but if they not have (had) an affair I go searching for an optical tool somewhere :-)) We sat in the car afterwards while they were going to the tourbus. I wasn't happy with my friends idea to drive behind Jewel's crew but we did. It wasn't a chase at all. It was just a relaxed drive on the highway without a negative feature at all. At the arrival (5 min.) at the airport we did leave immediately quitely without bothering them (they even haven't seen us). We just were curious if they were telling us the thruth about leaving to London straight away. But I still feel as it is wrong to do. (public confession :-)) So the day ended crazy while we got picks, a photograph, signatures and some friendly smiles and a film to develop at the store right now . It was the first tv-recording I ever have seen in my lif. I feel great been there. I know times aren't coming back but this Jewel is just as great listening to as the 'other' Jewel in 1997. Well, shoot your comments to my private email-address if you would like to. I hope I can answer all. Bye, Marcel. I arrived in Hamburg on friday and immediately lost my wallet....so that wasn't a good start....but this kind of things happen in life......the next day , lotti, myself and another dutch fan travelled to the Kampnagefabrik...this was a real old factory that they had been rebuilding to a concert place. ....because the concert has had free seats had we be going early to the venue to get the best seats.....i was at the front row when the concert started so you can all imagine how much i adored my ticket !!! The day was a cold one, we had been waiting with some german fans for about two hours before we saw some band members and than at the end Jewel and Steve and mr Greene came to the venue and they actually did get in immediately...... So we did get a drink in a cafe, played the single YWMFM and they didn't get the music!!! they never heard of Jewel in the cafe (how strange!!!)....very sudden we went back to the venue, and waited to get the best seats for that night...it worked out great... We were having a great concert by Steve and Jewel...they both were really singing very well....for Jewel's sake didn't she talked too much, but she sang a lot of beautiful songs so that made us really happy in Europe.....it was a terrific night Steve played beautiful songs too and he was funny as always.... The concert was so cool, that i really was so happy to have attended this one again...for example Jewel played the solo songs : Kiss the Flame, Don't and some more including the new one So Close to Heaven....this song was probably as beautiful as the song No more Sad Songs what she played the day thereafter in Berlin.... After the concert in Hamburg i met a girl from Holland who was studying in Hamburg and she noticed that i was a dutchman....the concert ended great with all of us invited to the stage ....this is a cool habbit as you can feel so more close to the concert....i always enjoy this moments of the concerts the very best....especially when you than see Jewel in the encore session singing Absence of Fear and her personal lullabye Angel Standing by......the new band song Do you want to play is also a very very terrific new song that makes you getting the lyrics very much.....after the concert i had signed my Pieces of You Lyricbook (the one with the blue cover and the wonderful photos in it)..... a correct setlist will follow shortly i hope.... The next day i travelled to Berlin to see her sing and play in the hochschule der kunste in Berlin and this venue was a really lovely one ....probably there were 1200 to 1400 people attending the concert....Steve was again very very on the jazz...he even called my dutch Jewelfan and travelling friend Lotti to the stage...he congrutaled Lotti with her birthday .....gave Lotti a glass of wine and song a wonderful french song on the stage for Lotti ....this gesture of Steve made the evening very special for Lotti and i enjoyed to the fullest to be honest too!!! Soon after this songs from Steve Jewel started her concert...Jewel was in such a good mood in comparisation with the concert in Hamburg....Jewel was so more chatting and open to the audience so that we really had a great time at the concert......we heard some wonderful songs this night ...including a wonderful new song in the solo set of Jewel - no more Sad songs a wonderful new song that she wrote a year ago for her dad but hardly has been playing for audiences.......so when we heard this song and her wonderful voice it made us really feeling in heaven.....always beautiful to listen to is the song Stranger enter from the east too...this song is a wonderful song for an accoustic concert ....... The band songs : Down so long, Do you want to play and the rockin rockin version of Jupiter made the night so special....two days after we spoke to Steve in Amsterdam and he told us that Jewel is really liking the new version of Jupiter and he told that the might record this new version of the wonderful song in the studios soon..he also revealed that the chat before the started to sing YWMFM in Berlin was the longest in their whole Spirit tour so far....Jewel was really sweet....mentioning that she bought a men's dress for Steve and that she is 'pinkilcher'....so you can imagine how open and wonderful Jewel was that night.... Jewel also really gets the crowd going crazy when she starts to dance on the crowd when she is preparing to sing the song WWSYS......than the whole band is very amusing by Jewel and her dance is really 'incredible'...you have to be there to get the groove.....and the closing of the concert is as special as always...the encore almost includes for 100% Absence of Fear that Steve Georgia plays so beautiful on his keyboard.....and Jewel has sung a wonderful Italian song for a girl where she has been studying with some years ago....it 's an accoustic version that really makes you feeling a special night to have attended.....and her favorite song to finish with is probably Angel standing by.....which is of course a beautiful song... After the concert i managed to get the Tourbook of the Jewel signed by everyone from the band in black ink and Jewel her autograph in blue.....this really makes this book for myself a beautiful memory and when you read my experiences at the Watertoren Studios on Tuesday when she was taping a dutch show than you can imagine how fillfilled i am a fan of Jewel her music.....it really made a dream come true and her own phrase In the end only kindness matters is the best line to finish this email about my Jewel travelling stories in Europe... Greetings, Michiel The Jewel fan who met her in Amsterdam http://members.xoom.com/Jewelimpala/index.html a dutch tribute to jewel - a beautiful angel from alaska who is playing at the dutch festival pinkpop soon..... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 16:09:55 EDT From: "Greg Butler" Subject: * DSL Single Hey All, Does anyone here have an extra DSL single from Holland (it looks like the RS cover from January). Which really makes a lot of sense since Jewel has just finished her UK tour and there are TV/Radio appearances lined up to promote it for this and next week. But it's not surprising really as EastWest UK have managed to schedule virtually all of Jewel's single releases as far away as possible from any UK promotional visits. But maybe it won't be so bad, as I've just noticed a gap in Jewel's schedule around the middle of June so perhaps she'll be back in the UK then. There's still a possibility of Top Of The Pops and TFI Friday. If you want more info about Jewel, or want to complain about how poorly Jewel is promoted in the UK then you can phone EastWest's promotions department on 0171 938 5624 See you. Chris. The pictures and quotes are beautiful, its much better than the last tour's book. I am glad I bought it. I would suggest that anyone that likes collectables like that to buy it...its $16 I think. Hi everyone! I'm just curious if there are other EDA gatherings being organized for the 6/25 Bakersfield and 6/29 Mountain View Jewel concerts. Our wonderful Rizioule, who is working on the Java Joe EDA concert on 6/26, was thinking of trying to organize EDA concerts for those dates as well. Is anyone planning anything right now?? Or is anyone interested in such a thing?? You can contact either Rizioule (rizioule@hotmail.com), Jason (arunsun@rocketmail.com) or myself (larthur@fullerton.edu) and let us know. Don't reply to the list -- we might miss your response! As for the Java Joe's (San Diego) EDA concert, we're moving along on that. It is looking like it will be during the day on 6/26 rather than on 6/25. If you are interested in performing, contact Rizioule (rizioule@hotmail.com) and put "Musician" in the subject line. More info coming soon! Thanks! Lori email: larthur@fullerton.edu ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #274 ***************************
