Actually, I wasn't even sure if I wanted to buy the CD. I had heard and read a lot of mixed reviews about it, and I was afraid I would not like it (imagine that!!). :) Anyway, I have to say I love the CD!! The songs on it are beautiful, inspiring and about real life. Jewel's voice sounds great. I must say I was surprised by how much I liked it. When I bought POY I had to listen to it several times to even begin to like a lot of the songs. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I really liked it and Jewel sounds better than ever. Deep Water, Kiss the Flame, Barcelona and Absence of Fear are some faves already! YaY!! Anyways, I >>plan to set up a meeting so that all EDA's going to Woodstock can meet there >>and have some fun. ... Hmmm. I've spoken with an EDA (Bill) who lives in Rome, NY, a scant two miles from the concert site, and he told me that the whole Woodstock situation is a logistical NIGHTMARE, particularly with traffic and parking. Jonathan's idea is cool, but there are a few holes in the plan. The biggest of which is when are all the EDAs expected to show up? Folks will be admitted from noon Thursday, and bands start playing noon Friday. Those coming in Friday morning will likely be parked off-site and shuttled in. So, don't count on "pulling over" anywhere near the venue. Bumper-to-bumper traffic is expected from EARLY Friday morning on. Finding anyone at the venue will be difficult at best. (Hell, we EDAs get lost in Woodstock on Main Street EVERY summer! I've lost EDAs in Denny's restaurants across America. The only reason we ever find each other there is that Denny's is so damn slooooow serving us that we have plenty of time to wander around looking for each other ;-) But I think we have a solution cooked up! Tentatively, a group of us will be meeting two miles from the site at Bill's place, with a "window of arrival" from around 9 PM Thursday night to 5 AM Friday morning. We plan to leave our cars at Bill's place, then at 5:15 AM, we march past all the cars sitting in traffic (who will be wishing they had walked in, too). Maybe one volunteer can brave the traffic to get a car in for us (but it won't be me). More likely, by Friday all cars will have to be parked even further away than Bill's house. We'll mosey on in, set up the EDA Tent City on some patch of high ground, and stake out the pink flamingos to mark our borders. Anyone arriving after 5:00 AM Friday will have to take their chances finding us (although the Teletubbie (tm) kites we might attempt to fly at a couple of designated times -- or whatever else we can cook up, like pagers -- might make it easier)... By the Friday noon start, we'll all be well fed, and settled into the weekend party while many of our fellow concert goers will still be sitting and fuming in traffic (or being shuttled around like plywood cattle ;-) EDAs are coming from ALL OVER THE WORLD to this event. Without a "window of arrival" and a safe house to wait at, meeting each other is going to be very tough, if not near impossible. Keep in mind, Woodstock99 will be the equivalent of a small town population suddenly popping up in Rome for a scant three days -- it will be unbelievably CHAOTIC! I've also been told that area hotels are ALREADY fully booked, so if you are thinking about going that route, CALL AND CONFIRM NOW! Just keep in mind that you will have to shuttle back and forth, and will miss lots of late night and early morning hanging out... if the experiences we had at JewelStock back in 1996 are any indication, you'll likely regret being off-site away from us! So far, I'm aware of the following EDAs going to Woodstock: Yours truly... Amy Neufeld Eric Montas Melanie and friend Allie and friend Abby from Israel Jonathan and friend (MANY EDAs have hinted that they would like to go) Is anyone else up for Woodstock EDA Tent City? :-) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 10:16:24 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB-Help for new Jewel list subscribers Hi everyone & especially new Jewel list subscribers! This is a periodic repost geared toward helping new people: Here's some helpful advice to relatively new subscribers who are usually a bit confused & by no fault of thier own, not knowledgable of the history of the EDAs or these Jewel mailing lists. First of all--WELCOME! Since the list FAQ is almost 2 years old & extremely out of date , it's understandibly difficult for new subscribers to get a grip on all that goes on in this large community. These lists, as you can probably sense, have facilitated the developement of many personal relationships among listmembers. The EDAs have also gone beyond the boundaries of the NET & have participated in quite a few great outside projects geared toward helping others as well as meeting in larger groups at music & non-music related events around the world. The purpose of this email is to give new folks a hand at finding the best resources to help with understanding this group called The EDAs. I promise any new person who takes the time to visit these sites, that you will enjoy the lists much more, feel right at home & be as knowledgable as most seasoned vets. (And those grumpy old vets will appreciate your effort.) I'm sure many of you new folks want to know more, but may not know how to educate yourself about the goings-on here. So here's helpful suggestions for you. Please take the time to check these out. It's painless, I promise, & actually fun. The EDA List Guide: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/ This website is THE BEST resource to learn about these mailing lists, basic Jewel knowledge (so you don't have to wonder about simple things or ask questions that have been answered a thousand times.) Just by knowing the content on this site, you will immediately fit in, feel much more comfortable & enjoy yourself here. REALLY! The Official Jewel Site: http://www.jeweljk.com This is Jewel's official website featuring the latest accurate news, tourdates (& calendar which is updated EVERY DAY), TV appearance info, Jewel Merchandise, Higher Ground For Humanity, Multimedia, photos & more. The best site for current accurate information! Pieces Of Jewel: http://jewel.zoonation.com/ Adam Longfellow's incredible site is the longest running fan site & has the best & most extensive historical content of any Jewel site. (Also, for a list of over 1000 older Jewel Performances check http://jewel.zoonation.com/jchrono.htm. I still keep Jewel's older performance chronology from 1994-1997 here on Adam's site. A very helpful resource for tape collectors needing accurate dates & venues on older performances.) See for yourself many of the people responsible for the folklore of this list & get inspired to join in! The EDAFoundation: http://www.EveryDayAngels.org The EveryDay Angels Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation whose mission is to promote grassroots volunteerism and community involvement. Inspired, created & managed by fellow listmembers who are devoting time & effort to promote activities that directly effect positive change in the world & to help focus the energy of the EDAs as a force to effect positive change. Watch for their posts, visit their site & find out how you can get involved while having a lot of fun in the process! Gerritt's Jewel Page: http://www.endor.org/jewel/ Another long time fan site with a lot of great content as well as the best source BY FAR for finding links to all the other Jewel sites. Atlantic Records: http://www.atlantic-records.com Jewel's record company's site featuring current industry news, contests & a few complete webcasts of Jewel are also available here. And finally, almost the entire history of this list is archived online at: http://www.smoe.org/lists/jewel/archives/ Here is the day to day history of this list referenced chronilogically in digest form. Not only is this a great resource for historical info, but if you are new or gone for a while, you can go here to read the past few days at any time. There's plenty more of course, but these sites in particular will definitely eleviate most of your confusion & will allow you to have a lot more fun way faster! Help everyone here by helping yourself to these resources. Welcome & enjoy! We havent talked about specific but we are thinking of somewhere easy to get to or even around Jones Beach for those of us who have to run around on public Transportation(a.k.a. LIRR).I have never been there so any suggestions on where to go and what to do are welcome. if you are interested in coming and even helping to plan this email me. (b) is there some sort of official fan club where certain "official fan club" members get first dibs on jewel concert seats or at the time of sale, is it anybody's guess as to who will get the great seats up front? peace, andrea :) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #265 ***************************
