We walked in on him in both Belfast and Dublin, and in dublin he talked about jewels plans for the future. He told us that after the American tour ends in December 1999 she wants to do another movie. And after that, probably in May she'll come back to Europe to do another European tour... Ohhh I can't wait!!!!! And there is more. Ride With the Devil, the film Jewel stars in will be shown on the Canne Film festival in France this year, so there is a big international interrest in this movie. Lee (the tour manager) also talked about that Jewel wanted to take some time off, but that the next opportunity would be in 5 years, so there is a lot more coming our way. Agreed, guess if that one was popular when she did a concert here in sweden, and on our late-night show, "Sen kväll med Luuk". She spoke some more swedish there too with only some accent she said, "Vill du äta frukost med mig?" Once upon a time, Jewel released her second single "You Were Meant For Me" and made a new video for the song starring Steve Poltz. However, neither MTV nor the radio stations would take the initiative to play YWMFM in heavy rotation. Jewel was caught in a Catch-22: The radio stations were waiting for the video to be played on MTV and MTV was waiting for the song to gain popularity on the radio. To overcome this roadblock, Hiranya came to the EDA's asking for a favor. Her request was simple, call your local radio stations and request YWMFM! As you all are aware, YWMFM proceeded to climb the charts on both radio and TV. All it needed was a little push from the EDA's to get it started, and it went on to become the #1 song for 1997 on two prominent national charts! I believe that the phone calls made by the EDA's contributed to the early success of YWMFM, and I also believe that our efforts can also help Jewel's latest single "Down So Long" gain airplay. Mr. BB has requested that we call our local radio stations and request DSL so I have decided to spearhead this initiative. The well-known EDA Jared compiled a list of radio stations across the country that play Jewel's music which I have posted below. This list was last updated in November of 1996, so some of the phone numbers may by inaccurate. Please email me (not the list) with: 1. Any new radio stations (that have played Jewel in the past) 2. Corrected phone numbers 3. Radio stations you hear DSL being played on! My email address is Sinjin@nexgate.net please include DSL in the subject so I can filter the messages better. Please call your local radio station and request DSL! "Down So Long" came on, so I watched, and then waited for Jewel's next video to come on, since they show two of an artists' video consecutively on the show. Well, the next video started, and I figured I had tuned in after Jewel's first video and they were moving to another artist, since I didn't recognize it. Well, when they put the video credits up, I soon realized that what I was seeing was the original 1995 Sean-Penn-directed version of "You Were Meant for Me." Needless to say, I was very excited, since I had only seen a clip of the original video before now. I wish I had been taping it. Anyway, it had a very different motif than the 1996 version, and it was creative, although not as creative as the more recent version, IMO. It was a good change of pace from the more well-known one, however, and it was interesting to see some early Jewel. I don't know if they replay the same episode of "Back 2 Back," but check your TV Guides, all. - -Salinger99, The Philosopher Angel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 May 1999 18:00:21 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: DSL: How YOU can help Jewel Sinjin wrote: > To overcome this roadblock, Hiranya came >to the EDA's asking for a favor. Mr Sinjin isn't kidding. You Were Meant For Me slowly climbed the charts, then JUMPED to the top ten, then stayed in the top ten for 22 weeks before dropping rather quickly (it fell from #22 one week to off the charts the next) Below is the week-by-week positions on Casey Kasems' AT40 from the week it hit that chart. I have to believe that requests got the song increased airplay which made it jump up the charts and made it a hit. Her other top ten songs did not follow the same pattern....they rose and fell from the charts at a steady rate, and had a moderate run in the top ten, whereas YWMFM was on the charts spread out over 36 weeks with a LONG stay in the top ten.
