You people in America going to her concerts this summer are in for a real treat. First Steve Poltz, the guy is amazing, funny and a great singer. and Jewel was unbelievable. Her CD's Tapes etc are nothing compared to her live. Well here's the set list : Steve Poltz 10 Chances The Chair Song ( he said he wrote this in Singapore after he saw the way a chair was thrown away it had gotten a cigarette burn in it, it was very funny) Everything About You Forbidden Fruit Poltz/with Jewel The Great Mystery I Thought I Saw You Last Night Steve Poltz Silver Lining Jewel ( I know this is right cause when Jewel went off stage I grabbed her set list she had on the floor!( along with her guitar plectrum) Solo Near You Always With Band Deep Water What's Simple is True Hands Jupiter You Were Meant For Me ( she told the whole drug bust story, I'm sure everyone's heard about it by now) Solo Jewel asked for requests Every one shouted different songs at once, so Jewel turns around and sarcastically says " Yeah It would help if everyone shouts at the same time" There were several shouts for Painters and Little Sister, but Jewel said she had forgotten the words to them so she sang a song I'd never heard before, Don't know the name of it Band comes back Barcelona Life Uncommon w/piano only Foolish Games Band back again Down so Long Solo Don't Jewel asks every one to come forward and stand Love Me Just Leave Me Alone Who Will Save Your Soul 1st Encore Absence of Fear Angel Standing By ( tells nice story about washing her hair in Denny's bathroom) 2nd Encore Steve/Jewel Kilkenney( Irish song Steve wrote in Kilkenney) Jewel solo Chime Bells All in all a great night. I had the best time ever, I got both CD's and my YWMFM single covers signed by Jewel. My programme signed by Jewel and the whole band, a guitar plectrum Steve poltz initialized, and best of all my copy of ANWA signed where Jewel wrote 'Happy Birthday John, many more, Jewel' I also got my pic taken with Jewel, one taken w/Steve and one with the Bass player. Well sorry it was so long, but I'm still pretty excited, see ya'll later and if you're going to one of her concerts, you'll love it!! Byeeeeeee John Note: after the show, I'd already gotten everything signed earlier, but waited around anyway, Jewel came out back, there were no more than about 30 people there, she looked tired but was very sweet and nice, chatting and signed everything put in front of her, there was none of the so called " I'm a POP star attitude" that people seem to be bashing her about. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 May 1999 09:08:14 -0400 From: Lisa A Klecanda Subject: Question Has anyone subscribed to the Jewel news mailing list at www.jewel-web.com? "Cindy Lee Berryhill - Living Room 16" Griffith Park GPR001 Potent acoustic tour de force from left field San Diego singer-songwriter. Kick-started by a bunch of Internet-using Jewel fanatics, the concept of the living room concert, whereby the artist turns up at somebody's house and does the show right there, has taken off big time among a sub-set of the American indie folk punk fraternity. The 16th such performance from Cindy Lee Berryhill took place in San Francisco in front of an invited audience of just 20 select souls. The joshing between-song banter heightens the sense of cliquey intimacy, but does threaten to stray the wrong side of self-indulgence. The songs themselves strap jagged and witty observational couplets on top of engagingly hook-laden melodies and winninly explore the space between Berryhill's acoustic guitar, harmonica and keyboard and Renata Bratt's cello. Oberall, the best of these songs - Diane, Damn I Wish I Was A Man, This Way Up, Look At That Grin - invite strange cultural visions of a counter-cultural Carole Bayer Sager swapping wisecracks with Randy Newman. Best plump up those cushions in readiness for the upcoming UK tour. - --- Is the LRT coming to the UK? If so, who's living room is CLB playing in? I hope I can tell it with half of Nedra's flair, at least. I think so. Time for something different for a change. Here goes. Attack Of The Psycho Fan?! (A true story) Part 1 (The set up) Recently, while Jewel's 1999 Tour took a swing through New Zealand, Jewel's mom & manager Nedra joined the tour for a few weeks. One of those days, while they were in Wellington New Zealand, Jewel was relaxing in her hotel room, Nedra was in another part of the hotel in her room & various staff were in their respective rooms. Jewel's room phone rings & she picks up the phone to say "Hello?", but gets no immediate response on the line. Just some stange noises so she hangs up. Her room phone rings again & once again she says "Hello?". This time she hears muffled noises & the sounds of someone breathing erratically while gasping & making weird & scary sounds into the phone! "Damn, some psycho fan somehow got my room number", she thinks to herself. "What to do?" Jewel calls the front desk & reports the disturbing calls to the front desk manager & asks that hotel security trace the call they put through to her room. The hotel checks the phone call register & informs Jewel that no outside phone calls have been put through to her room at all. Hmmmmm. This is getting wierder & Jewel assures them that disturbing calls were put through!! Hotel security tells Jewel the only calls they see to her room recently were "room to room" calls from within the hotel! Feeling more anxiety, Jewel thinks to herself, "The psycho fan is IN THE HOTEL & knows where I am!" She asks that the front desk immediately determine which room the disturbing phone call came from. As tension increases, Jewel waits for the hotel to check into this & she has Lee, one of her assistants sit with her while the hotel is checking things out. Then the hotel informs Jewel that the "room to room calls" in question came from Nedra's room!! Shaken & knowing Nedra hasn't called, Jewel & Lee freak out & realize "OH MY GOD, THE PSYCHO FAN IS IN NEDRA'S ROOM & THEY GOT NEDRA!!!!" Jewel & Lee jump up, dart out of her room & down the hallway to rescue Nedra! They pound on the door, find it unlocked, open the door to discover....... (To be continued, hehehe....) Part 2 (The Punch Line) will be sent as soon as Part 1 hits the list. Do I have your attention? ;-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 May 1999 12:27:22 -0700 From: "TSUNAMI" Subject: Jewel's HGH concert, EDAs in Hollywood I've been trekking all over, so today's my first day to sit down and write -- a late, brief, report on my adventures in L.A.; I won't go into all the NJC details (wild times at Woody Harrelson's 02 bar, the Universal Studios escapades etc. etc.), and Jamie, Lori and folks have already told you about the HGH concert (from "If I could tell the world just one thing..." to "when the kitty gets hungry..."), so, really I'd just like to say how much fun it was seeing EDAs from past shows (Java Joes, MTV +) and making new friends. Mr BB was very busy -- as was the whole J team -- documenting the event for posterity. Jewel's live take of WWSYS would make a great single release -- with the talking guitar sequence, it could be like "Frampton Comes Alive" for the new millenium. BTW, Jewel (who looks like "a very big girl to me") is in full command of her voice and her band -- they rock on tunes like Down (a favourite since hearing it on the Tiny Lights Tour). Outside the Henry Ford Theater, the red carpet was rolled out on Hollywood Boulevard. There, and inside, I met Cindy Lee again, the Troy family (hope to see y'all this summer on this island in Canada), Lori (dang that disappearing purse), Jason (I didn't know you were a millionaire!), Sonja, Jason (the photog.), and a bunch more EDAs. Christina Radish (a cool photog/videographer who's filmed Jewel since way back) and her mom were there. As well as Dyan Cannon, Mimi Rogers, an Olympic gold medallist (Benoit). I talked with the Higher Ground folks who were really nice people -- and HGH was what the concert was in aid of... During the day, before and after getting in for Jewel's soundcheck, I had fun being a tourist. A big THANK YOU to Jamie, Jerome and Ryan for the Hollywood stars trip and for understanding my search for photocopy machines. And thanks Jamie for your genuine wishes for my safe trip home. You're the only person I know who'd call someone "buttface" as a term of affection :) Cheers, hey?! And cheers to Larry (Greenfield) for boundless generosity and his L.A. and beyond rhythm -- and for the tux! And thanks Kris (Kane) for brewing me that herbal tea with a "lust for life". Wishing everyone peace and good health. Slean leat! Hooray for Hollywood -- and HGH and EDAs!!! cheers, Adrian (who has a new email addy as I'm working with a non-profit society, TSUNAMI; more on that later... right now, my kitty's hungry :) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 May 1999 12:49:36 -0700 (PDT) From: Agent BB Subject: Angel Needs a Ride Anyone have any information about the song Angel Needs a Ride, it is on a CD called 91X Saint Doug 'San Diego Local Music Soundtrack" from 1994, and Jewel is on track #3 with "Angel Needs a Ride", Has it appeard anywhere else? I just got my tickets for the San Diego concert. A pretty decent seat if I say so myself. :-) [insert complaint about Ticketmaster charges] Anyway, I asked about the ticket sales for the Irvine Meadows concert and the Ticketmaster person had no clue as to when they will be on sale. I'm guessing not until after May 6th (this Thursday). She recommended checking the website or calling on Thursday to find out when they go on sale (Thursday is apparently when they update the on-sale list). Just an FYI, Angels. :-) Anyone else going to the San Diego show? The So Cal EDAs are going to be planning a gathering for that day (6/26). We don't have any definite plans yet, but if you'd like to join us, hop over to Gerrit's wonderful site (www.endor.org/jewel), click on Mailing Lists and join our list! Even if you're not a So Cal resident, you'll be sure to hear all the information about the San Diego (and later the Irvine Meadows) gatherings we plan. You can always unsubscribe after the concert. :-) Hope everyone is doing well. :-) Lori Jupiter's Angel email: larthur@fullerton.edu ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 02 May 1999 13:58:57 -0700 From: Phillip Jacques Subject: Jewel @ Coors Ampitheatre (San Diego) Tickets Just called and got tickets in the Center Orchestra Row M. Think about it for a minute: Jewel Kilcher isn't your average 24-year-old. She hasn't gone through college, lived in dorms, spent all night writing essays or studying for finals. Jewel doesn't work nine-to-five and go home to hang with her buddies. Heck, she can't even buy groceries without getting hounded for autographs. I'm kinda wondering how many friends she has had time to make that are her own age. You know, people she can just hang around with. Must be kinda a weird way to go through life. Well, it's one of her older songs...and it was a staple on her 1996 tours. (She called it her "country music song") As for it appearing anywhere else, two prominent places are the JewelStock tapes, and the double-vinyl edition of Pieces Of You that was released by Atlantic Records in June 1997. It was a two-LP set, with all the POY songs plus five additional tracks.....Emily, Rocker Girl, Everything Breaks, Cold Song and Angel Needs A Ride. Yesterday (Saturday) DSL was featured in the Fanta World Chart Show's "Hits on the Horizon", which places it at somewhere between #40 and #37. Next week it should enter the charts. They had a short interview with Jewel, in which she said something about her Broadway character Dorothy. Of course my casette recorder had to be broken that day so I couldn't record it....:-((( 2.) In the May issue of Femina Spirit is one of the three CDs chosen as Music of the Month. This is the small article : "Is it a fluke that this month's CD choices all have sleeves of ultratrendy shades of grey - the fashion colour du jour? Perhaps, but there's nothing grey about the music. Jewel - Spirit: She's the archetypal New Age folk babe whose strongly acoustic music remains unbashedly sweet and innocent despite her stellar success." The other two CDs of the Month is Sheryl Crow - The Globe Sessions and The Beautiful South - Quench. Just thought I'd share that snippet of info with ya all! Bye and live good!
