This site was developed by our fellow EDA, David Nesting. (Thank you, David!) He answered the post i wrote a few months back inquiring if any other EDA's were interested in an EDA e-mail address. We received many responses thus prompting him to create this site. =) Come visit the site and sign up! Take care, karyn =) /\o/\ "/ \" "There is this hunger, this restlessness inside of me. Once at www.jeweljk.com, click "galaxy" & onto "headline news". We included some HGH information, an accurate setlist as well as the exact lyrical changes to "Hands" that had everyone laughing at the show. ;-) There's also new additions & corrections to the website calendar & several new items available at the Jewel Webstore including the 1999 Tour Books so many have asked me about. We also have plans to add a "tour date information" service to the website that even those of you without web access can utilize. It'll be a new "@jeweljk.com" email address with auto-responder that will send you the current schedule 24 hours a day. We should have this functioning shortly & I'll post the correct address asap. This should permanently eliminate all the tour date inquiries, even from those without web access. :-) Also, I wanted to pass on an idea that is timely once again. When Jewel's first album was released, it was THE EDAs that made a very appreciated difference by calling radio stations & requesting they play Jewel's singles. Surprisingly, "Down So Long" seems to be kinda slow on catching on to radio programmers. I'm still seeing posts from people hearing it on the radio for the first time & several have written me saying they have never heard it on the radio. I'd encourage EDAs to call your local stations & request it! I remember when the EDAs enthusiasticly called radio stations across the country & it definitely made a difference. Go for it! :-) Also keep watching for EDAFoundation posts. They're doing great things these days & would sure appreciate your participation. They'll also keep you updated on the "1999 Jewel Birthday Project", which I'm told many EDAs are participating in. Of course all volunteer work is wonderful whether you talk/write about it or not, but for those who would like to share your experiences with Jewel & each other, watch for the EDAF posts & join in! Otherwise, contact them at EDAFinfo@aol.com. They'd enjoy hearing from you. Not much else is new that hasn't been posted. I look forward to continued reports from European fans. Please send in reviews of the shows. We'd still enjoy including some of the most informative reviews on Jewel's website as the tour progresses. I'll continue including all the setlists on the site for your enjoyment. I'm going to try to finish up the New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore & Japan setlists this weekend & I'll try to get them up on the site early next week. I'll also try to get you Nedra's Wellington New Zealand story that I promised earlier this week. Likely this weekend or early next week. I think we'll call it "Attack of The Psycho Fan?!". Sounds intriguing, huh? Stay tuned, ;-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 23:31:39 +0100 (GMT) From: Ian Conroy Subject: Re: Performance on UK TV this morning (BBC 1 around 8:50 am) On Fri, 30 Apr 1999, Mike Gray wrote: > Hi Guys, > > I'm sorry I haven't checked to see if this was posted, but Jewel performed > "Down So Long" on Breakfast TV this morning in the UK. The performances are generally short on there, I know Alisha's Attic were on there a few weeks ago and their's wasn't the full length version, so that would have been dictated by the programme. > The problem, for me, was the interview Jewel did before, which I saw as > representative of the emerging Jewel - very much a gem sullied by fame. Was the interviewer just asking the inane, "straight off a sheet of paper I've given been by the producer" questions though, because I've seen even decent interviewees look rude in such situations? On this subject, isn't Jewel meant to be on the O-Zone at some point? Just hope she gets Jamie Theakston rather than Jayne Middlemiss then - I saw an interview with Busta Rhymes on there - who I think's brilliant, yes, really! - and he was giving one-line answers to everything Jayne Middlemiss said, because she was asking the most inane questions. Yet I had heard an interview with him on Radio 1 the previous day with Trevor Nelson (just about the best DJ in the UK), and BR couldn't have been more informative. So basically I think a decent interviewer can make an incredible amount of difference. > become more and more stand-offish in her attitudes, which I can only say is > a great shame. I thought you all might find some quotes interesting: when told that some fans/critics had been complaining about the direction her music had taken: "Here's the thing," she said forcefully. "You have two options. You can stay the same and protect the formula that gave you your initial success. They're going to crucify you for staying the same. If you change, they're going to crucify you for changing. But staying the same is boring. And changing is interesting. So of the two options," she concluded, "I'd rather be crucified for changing." and later on in the interview, talking about when she first started having success, packing the coffehouses she was playing in: "In some ways I had *more* confidence. I was outspoken. I *enjoyed* performing. I loved the compliments I received when I came offstage. Everything seemed to be proportionate to me. I had $400 in the bank. I thought I was filthy rich! ... I used to tell long, rambling tales onstage. It was very casual. I remember the first time I played the Newport Folk Festival. It was the first glimmering of what was to come. We went to a party - it was at a fraternity house and it was gaurded. Only people who were supposed to be there were there. I was with a road manager, a girlfriend who was helping me out. They said "You can't come in." My girlfriend said, "Do you *know* who this is?" She said my name, and these people standing by the door let out this GASP. My eyes bugged out of my head. I had the strangest reaction: I turned on my heel and I ran for ten blocks in the other direction. It pumped me so full of adrenalin, I bolted like a deer. I came back to Janie and said, "I'm so embarrassed, man, why did I do that? It's a mystery to me." Well, she had lived with retarded children. And a retard is smart in a lot of ways. They're simplified ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 21:31:43 -0400 From: Joshua Baummer Subject: Jewel on "The Tom Green Show" Thursday May 6th on MTV Hello, I was just at "The Tom Green Show" web site and this week (Thursday, May 6th) @ 10:30 there is going to be a segment with Glenn (Tom's sidekick) and Jewel on MTV. A lot of e-mails have been posted about Jewels recent attitude and singing during the last two weeks. You may be getting upset or feel overwhelmed, but we need to deal with the fact that we are all human and if she did make a mistake then WE all make mistakes. We should accept Jewel for her talents and her strengths and look at her in a positive way. She writes beautifully and this is the way she is expressing herself. So, I think we should move on from disappointed, frowning faces to happy, smiley ones and pass judgment on her weaknesses. ~Sheryl Dim Angel :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 22:01:13 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB-NBC Jewel Interview Hi again, This past Monday, Jewel did an interview with NBC while she was in Los Angeles. This interview will air in two parts. The first part will probably air next Friday night May 7th following Conan O'Brien on NBC's "Friday Night Videos". It so happens the truly incredible Patty Griffin is the musical guest on Conan that night, so check her out as well! This is her "major network performance debut" after years of powerful music. Patty was Jewel's warm-up at Jewelstock three years ago & kicked all our asses! Go Patty Go! :-) OK, back to the two part Jewel interview: The second part of the interview will be broadcast sometime during the first two weeks of May on NBC's "Later Show". We don't know exactly when on part two, but if I hear more, I'll let ya know. Please do the same. I came back to New England & plantlife everywhere woke up during the week I was gone. Outdoor weekends again! Here's to strenuous stuff like sleeping in a hammock & BBQ's! ;-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 21:15:34 -0500 From: joseph Subject: Hi Again Thanx to everyone who helped me on my question much apprciated and no i am not new been on the list for almost a year now and i dont send out very much but i love to read the posts. Whoops!! looks like that Joni Mitchell quote got cut off in mid-sentence. Sorry!! Here's the rest of it: .....Well, she had lived with retarded children. And a retard is smart in a lot of ways. They're simplified down to a kind of intellingence that a more complex mind is not hip to. Janie said, "I think that is one of the most sane things I have ever seen, you know." Then it began to get really disproportionate. I couldn't really enjoy it after that. I know it was good, but the adoration seemed out of line. The next thing is .. going through the adjustments, where more people are attracted to you because you smell of success. And they're simultaneously saying to you, "Don't change." But as soon as you have so many hangers-on, you have to change, and then you go through the pains of hearing that you " ***changed**, man." It goes to your head. There's a whole lot of levels of adjustment. There are no books written on it; nobody tells you what to expect. Some people get puffed up and say "I deserved it." I thought it was too much to live up to. I thought, "You don't even know who I am. You want to *worship* me?" ~~~~~~~ - --Jill, the Idaho angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #231 ***************************
