(of Everyday Kindness) Well, my email response has been overwhelmingly positive to the "Let's commit everyday acts of kindness" project. The documentation of those acts in a creative scrapbook to be made available for the inspiration of EDAs and Jewel will continue over the next four weeks or so. For those of you who feel that such a scrapbook is too self-serving and/or that Jewel will coldly throw it away without a second look, or that we should do anonymous deeds only and in effect not promote and celebrate them (don't accent the positive, hell, folks might think you're trying to make things better!) -- well, I suggest y'all get off your butts and actually do something instead of trying to discourage the EDAs who aren't so cynical and are willing to back up their talk! In other words hoss, look for our cloud of dust 'cause this one's already off and running... ;-) The EveryDay Angels Foundation is going to work with many EDAs to document what they are doing and why they are doing it. Several EDAs have written of working with the Special Olympics program, visiting children in hospitals, special programs involving horses and the handicapped, rehabbing homes, environmental projects and more. Those are some of the more elaborate examples, but please keep in mind that all acts of kindness are important, and we want to hear about them all. One important point about submissions for the scrapbook -- they are NOT supposed to address Jewel's celebrity nor idolize her! If she inspired you to do something, tell us about it and what you realized from the experience. Submissions can be a simple sentence or two which we will work into the book, or an entire page if you feel the recipient of the act and the results merit it. When someone reads the finished book, it should illustrate the humanity of the event and help others to understand some of the needs that exist -- and can be filled by EDAs -- everyday. Anyone contacting myself or the EDAF at EDAFinfo@aol.com will be placed on a temporary email group list and provided with suggestions on what to do and how to submit a story or page. We'll also be including other acts performed by groups of EDAs, including the upcoming MS Walks, beach cleanups and volunteer days at food banks. IMHO, this has the potential to be the most important activity this list has EVER attempted. Its success and true value now depend on those who choose to participate. Dennis Harris (Sorry I can't answer everyone's individual email about this, but this is NOT a theoretical discussion to me. It is a project with real deadlines that needs to have attention paid to those who are making it work. Feel free to rip it apart after its done if you still feel the need to, but you'd better be able to tell me what YOU accomplished that was more appropriate! That's called the "lead, follow or get outta the way" approach to making a difference ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 22:15:39 EDT From: KramToad1@aol.com Subject: steve poltz and the rugburns! sorry...i have to write about my excitement...i finally got to hear a rugburns cd today...."taking the world by donkey"....my friend had it and i didn't even know it! it is soooo funny! i love the song he does with jewel, "old lover's house" and i love how they sing it. i get to tape it, yay! sorry....it brought back great memories of the jewel concert i went to that the rugburns opened up for....i distinctely remembered "tree hugger"....that's a great one! does anyone else agree? i also love "suburbia". I think the scrapbook is an ok idea, but will Jewel like it? I mean would you want a book of photos of people you didn't know?? Plus the idea of putting pictures of us doing "good deeds". Isn't that a bit selfish? we should help others because they need our help and we believe it is the right thing to do and it gratifies our needs. NOT so we can show off that we are kind. In my opinion if you are a kind and sincere and honest person you do not go around saying " hay look at me look at all the charity i have done i am special" that is not what helping others is about. You help those who need it and their thanks should be enough. just my opionion, Teresa ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 21:45:22 -0500 From: Greg Dunn Subject: Re: NJC: Midwest gatherings?: Joy Eden Harrison shows >Joy Eden Harrison (as heard on such AngelFood tapes as InnerChange Days and >Future Folklore 3, and part of last summer's Living Room Tour) is going to be >doing some Midwestern shows to support her new CD, "Unspoken". > >May 21 Friday - Indianapolis, IN - the Music Box - 4213 E 62nd Street - 8pm Any Central Indiana EDAs are welcome to stop by for this one! Of course she will! Hi all :-) In response to some of the questions/opinions posted as to whether or not Jewel will really give a hoot or even care about and read a *scrapbook* of "EDA acts of kindness"....I say, of course she will !! :-) Certainly so if history means anything. Back in the fall of 1996, shortly after the JewelStock tape tree, someone (I forgot who) came up with an idea for a mass "thanking" for the event and subsequent tape tree. (Jewel and her management gave permission to tree what ended up being a 3 tape set) Thus was born the "JewelStock Thanksgiving Project", where EDAs (whether they went to JewelStock and/or had the tapes or not), wrote a note of thanks to Jewel, emailed them to the head of the project, who then printed them all out and had them sent on to Lenedra to give to Jewel. I think there were about 180 letters! :-) Jewel loved it! Below are letters from Lenedra and Jewel that were posted on this list in response to the Jewelstock Thanksgiving project. (yeah, it was a different type project, but I certainly think she'll appreciate the "acts of kindness" book and reading what was actually done...she's more in tune with what goes on with this list than many of you realize :-) Mike :-) P.S. Lenedra mentions Hiranya, who used to work in the office for the J-team and was our Jewel "newsgiver" back then....kind of the role that MrBB now plays. Posted in late November 1996 Hello to all you wondrous ones, from Lenedra. Hiranya will not be around at all throughout the holiday so I am having Alan B forward this to you. I loved all the kind wishes to me in the Thanksgiving booklet. It was such a great idea and really lifted Jewel's spirits. Thank you for including me in your thoughts. Happy holidays to all. I hope no one is sad and lonely. It's wonderful knowing that people on this list do what they can to see that doesn't happen to their friends here. Warmly, Lenedra and here's Jewel's note to you: Dear Angels, A lot has been on my mind lately---I've been quite pre-occupied with my new album and, Lord forbid, I've been watching MTV! Which is never good for me. I start thinking 'How did I ever sell even one album?!'. When I see all those ultra-cool hipsters, or the super slick all-hype fast-talkers I look at myself and think, 'My next album doesn't even stand a chance. I'm too dorky, simple, retarded, etc. etc.'. So I was walking around with quite a too-serious look on my face when I saw this JewelStock Thanksgiving folder in my file on Lenedra's desk. It was so reassuring and timely to read that sincerity really counts and emotion touches people. I can do that!--so what a great reminder! Thankx to all of you for loving what I love to do! You help make my dream possible and keep my spirits high with all your lovely notes. I hope I return the kindness in my work. Sincerely and xoxoxoxo, Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 20:06:22 PDT From: "Brian Halaas" Subject: Re: seventeen cover = ANWA?? WOW! I never realized that. I can't believe you noticed that. When I looked at it closer I could see that the outfit was the same. But the only problem was her hair. I think that Jewel looks absoulutley wonderful on the cover of ANWA. I think it is really funny though, that if it really was from the same photo shoot, with the black and white cover of ANWA you wouldn't think that she was really wearing pink. Ok, that's all from me. ;o> ฿rian "The Jelly Doughnut of an Angel" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 13:06:20 +1100 From: Louise Subject: NJC: Steve's going to be on Good Morning Australia and Recovery!! Hey Angels, Well I went and saw Steve last night at the Saratoga Club in Melbourne. He was totally awesome!! But that's another story...I'm writing to tell all you Aussie EDA'S that Steve is going to be on Good Morning Australia, Channel Ten with Bert Newton on Friday morning. Starts at 9am I think. And he's also going to be on Recovery this Saturday morning on Channel Two. Starts at 9am too. I hope everyone will be tuning in :) Oh and on GMA if Bert asks Steve a question and he taps his index finger on his cheek, he's really giving Bert the finger and saying f**k off. Steve thought GMA sounded very cheesy...LOL He's soooo right. Well that's it from me on this topic, take care Angels and don't forget to watch Steve!!
