Hello Jewel fans, I don't know if you can remember it, but sometime ago Alan Bershaw mentioned something about the Jewel home video. I really want to know how the progress of this video is going right now . Is this video still being made, and when does the J-team tend to release this video? Is there maybe a future plan too, to screen a Jewel concert and put that up for sale too at the official website or the compilation video of Jewel's videos from pieces of you and spirit ? As far as i am concerned, Warner Music Holland (Benelux) is one of Jewel's most laziest record labels that try to promote Jewel. Every time a dutch Jewel fan call their office when we want to ask them something about Jewel (for instance her birthday ...read the emails of lotti and susannah) than they cut us down and doesn't answer us properly. We want to surprise jewel the day that she performs on the pinkpop festival especially as this 25 year old Singer has her birthday the day before the concert and we DUTCH EDA'S want to organise something . But we doesn't get any support or dedicated help by Jewel's label in Holland which i really think is frustating.... Maybe somebody has an anwer or sollution to our DUTCH EDA's problems and have some good ideas how we can surprise Jewel on monday the 24th of may at Pinkpop, the dutch popfestival. I always have asked my self why the J-team only have selected one concertdate in Holland of Jewel and not another in one of her previous venues she played in Holland. Maybe again Alan Bershaw can try to arrange another concert for us dutch fans on tuesday the 25th of may . Or earlier at the 22 th of may in Holland (on saturday , i am fully positive that Jewel hasn't got any serious commitments or at least i hope....hehehe) greetings, Michiel dutch Jewelfan http://members.xoom.com/Jewelimpala/index.html a dutch tribute to jewel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 22:23:03 +0200 From: "alx" Subject: Spirit translation to French Hello peepoul :) The French translation of "Spirit" is available on my page. I am a new EDA that has been a little bit of a wallflower so I can get a hold of what's going on. Just so you know a little about me, I love this mailing list and I recently fell in love with Jewel's music (probably her too). I wanted to bring to attention a Jewel web site that I just recently found. If this is old news to you, then I apologize. This site has several of her videos in Realvideo format and a Jewel poetry game (which I cannot get to work). Hope this email informed as much as I wanted it to. In a message dated 4/12/99 3:26:55 PM, michielvangorkum@wxs.nl writes: <> Yes, the "Jewel home video" project is rolling along nicely. Bibi, West & video team have been working away editing it for months now. A lot of it is finished & a bit more filming will still take place this month. The final shoot will be at the upcoming Los Angeles HGH Benefit mentioned on Jewel's website. We're hoping to make the video available by the time the US Tour starts or shortly thereafter. <> Yes, it will be available from a wide variety of sources including the website, Jewel's shows & retail (stores). <> Not that I know of. Write Atlantic & request it. That's there territory. <> While I have no idea what goes on at Warner Benelux, I will say that they cannot be responsible for allowing fans to personally give gifts to Jewel or arranging "surprises" at that very large European festival. Jewel prefers that fans NOT give her gifts & everyone who works with her is well aware of that, so they cannot help fans who want to personally give her gifts anyway. There's no excuse if they were rude to you, but you cannot expect the them to accomodate fans who would enjoy "surprising" Jewel with birthday gifts at that festival. <> I cannot "arrange" Jewel concerts. The 25th of May is a travel day to Paris & she's booked for promo work on the 22nd. Now, onto this birthday thing we go through every year... While I understand that everyone has good intentions about wanting to wish Jewel a very happy birthday & some want to give gifts, I highly suggest you read your EDAFoundation mail & participate in THAT birthday project. Jewel will be thrilled if EDAs go out & help others instead of focusing energy on sending messages or giving gifts to her. This can be done by any EDA anywhere! Rather than get all preachy on this, here's a message sent to the EDAs back in 1996 regarding this issue. Keep in mind that its 1999 now & Jewel recieves far more gifts & messages than she did then: >From Nedra: <> end Nedra message There you have it... So.....I encourage anyone who wants to do something nice for Jewel on her birthday, do something nice for someone in need & write the EDAF to tell Jewel (& each other) about it! The EDAF is providing a focus to help anyone who'd like to participate in exactly this. They will be compiling info & messages that are about how EDAs helped others, did volunteer work or anything else directly geared toward humanitarian goals. Watch for their posts & instructions so that they can include your experiences in the book they'll soon be compiling. (You can write them at EDAF@smoe.org) It's important to make the distinction that this book is not for birthday messages. It's to let Jewel enjoy how her work has inspired people to help others & let her know that many EDAs are making a REAL difference. You are welcome, of course, to still send Jewel a birthday message or gift using the email link at her website or the PO box. That's what they're there for. But I encourage you to take part in the EDAF effort & be included in that book. Jewel will recieve that as her 1999 birthday gift from the EDAs. Do your part to make it great! All the best, Alan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 18:40:51 -0400 From: Mike Schlosser Subject: NJC: Discovering Poltz Hello, Mike's in an really chipper mood today, so I thought I'd help out all the newbie's who are just now discovering the genius that is poltz. I know better than anybody that it is hard to locate the rugburn's albums. After an exhaustive 1.5 year search, I was only able to obtain the rugburn's third album 'Taking The World By Donkey' by having a friend who lives in San Diego mail it to me. 'Morning Wood' & 'Mommy I'm Sorry' can be obtained though various internet retailers although even they have begun to sellout. So good luck. As you may have guessed all of the albums that featured Steve IMO fail to showcase his talent effectively. (This is also true in Jewel's case). I'm not saying the commercial albums are 'bad' they are far from it and have given me much enjoyment, but the could be so much more. So where can you get some pretty rare poltz performances?? (Because aside from living in OZ or Europe, your chances of witnessing poltz or jewel are pretty rare)...I suggest all the poltz fans who seek more performances check out: Steve Poltz - Drunk Like Me - http://home.att.net/~ericj1/index.html I would suggest you get: Polyester Angst (way back in 1989, (Steve & Robert Driscoll _rock_ on this one) Poltz Demo stuff (solo stuff from 1990, good stuff) Schuba's, Chicago (A good rugburns show from 06/30/96) One Smelly Sock (Steve Poltz Compilation) Roxy Theatre, Los Angeles (1/26/98 Steve & Friends Play together, ~Jewel content here) Blarneystone Pub (10/19/90 another early Steve & Robert Driscoll Show) (Steve's set on the Jingle Ball '98 CD is also good, avalible at the star radio website) All are available from the above mentioned webpage. (The money gained is used to cover the cost of blank media & postage only) No money is made and personally pocketed.) I'm very happy people are now discovering poltz, now really go discover him. - --Mike Schlosser (After all the EDAs are at heart rabid music fans right?) - --Mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 18:54:16 EDT From: EPhili2568@aol.com Subject: Southern California Memebers Read... Just a really quick message to make sure that everyone who's going to Steve Poltz's Melbourne concert has a good time for me. I was meant to be going with my cousin, but it's turned out that I have to work. Anyway, I know that it will be great and that I'm going to miss out on a great show, so if anyone gets any angelfood (I'm sure I shouldn't be calling it that when it's not Jewel's music, but you know what I'm talking about!) please, please, please e-mail me, because I would love to get a copy of it. Anyway, have fun at the concert (same to the Sydneysiders who are going to see him) and I wish I could be there. Bec Angel of the Palais ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 20:48:02 EDT From: NikosSong@aol.com Subject: My gift to Jewel My project that I am doing in honor of Jewel is working with a program called "horses for the handicapped." I am friends with a women who just started this non-profit organization, and I saw a fun way to earn community service hours, especially around Jewel's bday. I've worked with the handicapped a lot. For the past three years in a row I have been a volunteer at the Special Olympics. I loved it. The kids are great, and I love working with them. I think this new experience will be even better. I'm glad that I can take a part in this, and hopefully I will be able to add to the scrapbook, if it ever is accomplished. Thanks for listening! Jenni The "human" angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 22:53:31 EDT From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: Birthday Scrapbook YES, "socks" NO! A few days ago, I suggested that the EDAs do the "Everyday Acts of Kindness" scrapbook for Jewel's birthday. Now, several well-meaning people are planning attempts to deliver presents to Jewel at shows, advocating "birthday wish books" that have already been done before, and even scheduling EXTRA SHOWS FOR JEWEL SO SHE CAN HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF PLAYING FOR THEM! My original suggestion was designed to avoid this confusion and frustration. I am 100% certain that the last thing Jewel and Lenedra want to see happen is fans bringing gifts to Jewel, especially for her birthday! They have said that time and time again. (Trust me, they mean it. "No" means "no" in this case!) What they have asked for many times is that her true fans commit everyday acts of kindness for other people. If you want to do it in her honor, that's fine. But that's what they want, plain and simple. I suggested a way that EDAs could accomodate Jewel's wishes, and still have a way to make her aware that they exist and thought of her in a very special way (the "Everyday Acts of Kindness" scrapbook). To clarify, I'd like to stress this point: How many times have you asked for something (like on your birthday), then had your parents buy you socks because that's what they thought was best for you? Pissed you off, didn't it? Especially since you were very explicit on what you did and did NOT want. * Please do not buy Jewel "socks", she does NOT want them * :-) Please do try to get together with other EDAs, make friends and do something for others. Then, put a scrapbook page together. Jewel will look it over when she has time, and will likely have a better impression of you and all the other EDAs who participated. Heck, she might look at it all the time, who knows? Just think -- Jewel looking at us, talking about our hair/teeth/clothes instead of the other way around! ;-) And I strongly suspect you'll gain more than just a possible all-too-brief contact with a person who is justifiably too busy to really give you the attention you want. Trust me on this. So, if you want to do the "Everyday Acts of Kindness" scrapbook for Jewel's birthday, email me at EDAFinfo@aol.com or HarrisBros@aol.com. I'll compile a list of EDAs who express an interest, and make sure I send you ideas on what to do and directions on how to let us know what you did. There will have to be deadlines for the scrapbook, and guidelines on page sizes and such. I will also post "highlights" of suggestions and updates on this birthday project to the Jewel list. This will keep folks who don't want to participate from getting too much "off topic" mail. I strongly discourage you guys from going off on your own and trying to contact Jewel/call the record label/set up gift "hand-offs" to her. It makes all the EDAs look like we don't listen and are going to do what we please, Jewel's wishes be damned. That's no way to treat an angel on their birthday. :-) Dennis, who is REALLY impressed by some of the thoughful ideas and acts coming in already... ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #195 ***************************
