OHMIGOD!!! This is just beyond fantastic!!! i want to go to woodstock '99!!! There are like 9 bands singers there including Jewel ofcourse who I looove listening to but I'm stuck here on the otherside of the world!! Here in Australia we have a couple of similar woodstock type things every year "The Big Day Out" (that's only 1 day) and then "Offshore" In Victoria (that's about 3 nights) but I have to say the local bands we have who dominate these events suck!!! I mean they're ok for a good time and a bit of a mosh and singalong but they don't rate anywhere near the likes of Jewel, Alanis, Chili Peppers, Counting Crows etc!! No offense to you aussies who are big on the australian bands but they're all just local bands who no one outside of australia has heard about. Sure we get a few imports... ok well the Big Day out had a few big acts eg Hole, Marylin Manson and Korn... but Offshore basically only had Ben Harper.... My god I hope you guys in America realise how lucky you guys are!!! I would die to go to Woodstock!!! I am just totally in awe of the number of fantastic artists that are going to be there!! and only $150... wow .. i mean that's a lot of money but you're getting more than your moneys worth! anyway i better go now Luv Chris the presently awestruck, jealous angel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 1999 17:53:12 +1000 From: "Christine Diefenbach" Subject: Jewel on the Rolling Stone tv special in oz... Hey all, Well I watched the Rolling stone special last night to catch Jewel and it rocked!!! I thought she'd just be talking for a little while but she sang all of "What's Simple Is True".. it was a live performance at Java Joe's.... (by the way has this already aired in america and other countries?) and I'm not sure but I think she had EDA guitar picks lined up on her microphone.... maybe not but they were yellow and they had some sort of black print on them... anyway she sang it beautifully and she changed the lyrics "our two shadows merge inseperably" to "our two bodies"... i dunno whether that was sung specially for the rolling stone special (probably not) cos they played that song during the section when they were discussing sex but I like shadows better!... basically she just sang that song and then at the end of the show when a whole lot of different artists were giving their hopes and advices for the future they showed Jewel in a little cowgirly type outfit.. hat and jacket, with a brown horse and she said something inspirational and that was it i think.. i dunno i missed the first 20 mins so she could have been there as well.. but it was worth it!! ok i'm off now byeeee christine ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 1999 04:25:26 EDT From: LuverMb20@aol.com Subject: Jewel at Gap/Mention on Radio Aloha! Does anyone know what I heard, or can confirm if it was her? Secondly, I just thought I'd mention this since I'm writing anyways. I heard Down So Long on the radio today, and the DJ said, "Did she just say boopidopo?" right as the song was beginning. It was cute. Anyways, bye all! Yes, entitled "Where It's At: Rolling Stone's State of the Union" it originally aired on ABC television in America last May 21st. It was a two hour special covering the state of music during Rolling Stones first 30 years, and of course contained Jewel singing two songs at a performance filmed at Java Joes earlier that spring. For newer folks here who never saw it, it HAS repeated a few times on MTV or VH1) I forget which) and I haven't seen it listed on any schedules for re-airing soon. Hey Angels, I'm looking for pics of Jewel at her 'prom' on MTV as the subject says. I really LOVED her hair and want to have mine like that for Steve's concert on Tuesday night. Okay so Jewel's wearing this huge diamond choker necklace and her hair is swept up and crossed at the front so she has hair down both sides of her face. And she's looking into a mirror and one oh her hands is touching the necklace. The concert, set for July 23-25 at the 3,600-acre Griffiss Park in Rome, N.Y., mixes rock acts with hip-hop, electronic and pop artists. It looks likely to outdo the 1994 celebration, which helped propel the careers of Nine Inch Nails and Green Day, among others. Other acts scheduled to perform include the Chemical Brothers, George Clinton, Collective Soul, Counting Crows, Creed, Everlast, Fatboy Slim, Foo Fighters, Guster, Ice Cube, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Live, Los Lobos, Dave Matthews Band, moe., Willie Nelson, Sugar Ray, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rusted Root, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, the Offspring and the Tragically Hip. None of the acts played the original 1969 Woodstock. ``I think that this is the most amazing lineup of contemporary talent every assembled,'' said top promoter John Scher, president of Metropolitan Entertainment. He is presenting this year's event along with Michael Lang and Ossie Kilkenny. ``1994 was a worthy successor to '69, but this lineup is so much more impressive,'' he said. Lang, one of the producers of the original Woodstock as well as the '94 event, added: ``Woodstock isn't just a concert, it's a rite of passage. Woodstock has become the Olympics of live music, so that every five years we can step out of ourselves and celebrate diversity, great music _ and each other.'' The concert location is the former Griffiss Air Force Base, a 50-minute drive west from Albany. ``We moved to this site because the infrastructure is phenomenal,'' Scher said. Compensating for parking and camping problems in 1994, this year's site will come with on- and off-site parking and 240 acres designated for on-site camping. In addition, there will be a hospital, utilities system, solid-waste sanitation, 2,000 portable toilets, 3.6 million gallons of potable water, transportation and fire and security stations. ``Every generation deserves its own Woodstock,'' Scher said. ``Woodstock brings together people from all over the country and all over the world to celebrate the spirit of the original concert in 1969 as well as to celebrate the spirit and the music of the moment.'' More than 350,000 attended the 25th anniversary show in 1994, and organizers expect at least 250,000 this year. ``Three more days of mud, noise and logistical nightmares? Wouldn't miss it for the world,'' Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said. The concert will include two main stages, an arts village, film festival, experimental theater, concessions village, beer garden, ecology displays, craft demonstrations, technology park and video walls. Organizers also promise better security than at the first two Woodstocks, which were overrun by gatecrashers. ``This place is a fortress,'' Scher said. ``It's about as hard to get into as it is to get out of a prison.'' Organizers expect Woodstock '99 to pump $30 million into the local economy of Oneida County and the city of Rome. Travel packages will go on sale April 18, while tickets _ priced at $150 each _ go on sale April 25. As with Woodstock 1994, there will be an album and home video, probably a pay-per-view special as well as international broadcast, Scher said. He hoped there would be a Woodstock every five years. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #191 ***************************
