ANGEL HIGH UP THERE Oh sparkling Jewel. So brilliant. So unreachable. We are so low and unworthy. We do not know what yodeling is We are mere lab rats for your guitarist to perform a "social experiment". With her sweet angelic voice spiraling around songs so touching, Jewel lulled us. There was that shaky warm-up with two opening songs, but soon, she was so much more! She could tell a funny story about her Mexican drug bust adventure that inspired You Were Meant For Me. She could sing alone or with her band. She could project many vocal characters in ONE song! Angelic. Raspy. Low and husky. Angelic. Husky. Off-key. Raspy For the final song, everyone just come on down so she could see and hear you because, she said, "My friends who have performed here warned me: "They are very quiet." They scurry eagerly to the stage in a frenzy. With a swing of her head, her golden hair was down, teasing and rocking like a country mama with Who Will Save Your Soul. She is good. The, sigh, the beloved singer who has sung her way into every thinking man and woman's heart asked a most unthinkable question. Fiddling her guitar for her last encore song, she said: "This next song is going to sound strange to you. It's a yodeling song." Yeah! Everyone's happy! "Do you know what yodeling is?" she asked like tourists who think Singapore is part of China. Pity. We are not as clever as her songs. Then, joyous tears as she yodeled away at three varied speeds. Jewel reigns! (With two encores!) Her guitarist, Steve Poltz, reigns! Opening her two-hour concert at the Harbour Pavilion last night, he won everyone with quirky tunes about a chair, pepper crabs at Boat Quay, and that clever one about Star Wars characters. "Hans Solo may have danced, but he never got into Princess Leia's pants. 'Cos she was... to busy making out with her brother, Like Skywalker," sang Poltz. He beckoned the crowd to roar like Chewbacca every time he sang, "Go Chewy go". "MY friends said Singaporeans don't sing along. So you can make a fool out of me or you could prove them wrong. It will be a social experiment," he said, cleverly, of course. What a brilliant concert. Wish you were there. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Apr 1999 01:46:10 -0500 (EST) From: Santee Subject: EDA Birthday Cake * * * * * I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @ @ @ Everyday Angels @ @ @ @___________________________________________________________________@ @ @ @ Birthday Announcements @ @ @ @___________________________________________________________________@ @ @ @ for @ @ April @ @ @ @%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%@ 04-00 buster.cresssey@sympatico.ca "Matthew Cressey" 04-00 zerog@interaccess.com "Sierra Keith (Mountain Angel)" 04-01 egarvey@prairienet.org "Emilia Garvey (The Jilted Angel)" 04-01 Tommurias@ip.pt Tomas Murias (The B'simple EDA) 04-02 pigs@swva.net Erin Martin (Sensitive Angel) 04-02 sfjewel@aol.com John Baird 04-03 amacphee@msn.com Alex MacPhee (AlexHendrix) 04-03 amacphee@msn.con Alex MacPhee (Scottish Angel) 04-03 rileyhelen@aol.com Laurie (RileyHelen) 04-04 dingo@grove.ufl.EDU "Matt Spangler" 04-04 Dreachic@aol.com Andrea Wynn (Drea) 04-04 dsarn@aol.com Deneen Sarnick (DENEEN) 04-04 Gypsy4483@aol.com Jessica Munday(the angel still earning her wings) 04-04 joco@goplay.com James O'Connor (joco) 04-04 kellybutt1@aol.com "Kelly Buckner (Kella/KellyButt1)" 04-04 KiNoTakiBi@aol.com KiNoTakiBi 04-05 * "Deeanna (Jupiter)" 04-05 AZAB@AOL.COM "Bevan Bielza (Potential Angel)" 04-05 eilonwy@netxn.com Christa Edwards 04-05 ngyen@mnsi.net Phuong Nguyen (Lord Damian) 04-05 salawaku@usa.net Tuasuun (Alex) 04-06 KSeiden17@juno.com "Kimberly Seiden" 04-06 nagrom@mbox4.singnet.com.sg Morgan Awyong Leong Kwan (Nagrom) 04-06 sweety@bellsouth.net Bonnie (Sweety) 04-07 jpoli75@aol.com "anne simon" 04-07 rachelleah@hotmail.com Rachel Leah (Rachelleah or Rachel) 04-07 tezrik@worldnet.att.net Andrew Patterson (Andy) 04-08 Frglflame7@aol.com Corey Angel 04-08 lassi@earthling.net Lassi Valkonen 04-08 Mato54@worldnet.att.net Katie Matowitz (Katie) 04-08 wdb@obl.bidmc.harvard.edu "bill bartholomew" 04-09 amanda@mail.portup.com "Amanda Partanen" 04-09 beldog@bellsouth.net Michelle Martin (Michelle =)-~) 04-09 crimsonal@usa.net Alice Esteves () 04-09 silverxblu@aol.com *niina*(a random angel) 04-10 madcat69@aol.xom anthony (madcat) 04-11 doogie1@webtv.net Doug Wehrs (Mercy angel) 04-11 JWIL1234@aol.com JEMMA-ALICIA (ANGEL JEM) 04-11 organics@concentric.net "Angela Ippolito (Angel)" 04-11 spiffey14@aol.com tracy hunt (spiffey) 04-12 gpb8274@ritvax.isc.rit.edu George P. I just got a guitar :) So I was wondering where I >could find any EDA/Jewel guitar picks? If you have any links or info, please >email me. Well, there have been EDA guitar picks available on the list before, and there are again! :-) In 1997, list members printed a supply of special EDA picks, and gave Jewel several hundred as a birthday present. The remainder were offered to the list at a reasonable price, to cover the production costs of the entire run (meaning that the project paid for itself). The project sold out of 700 picks or so in less than 36 hours. A second run was planned, but never happened. Well, around the time Jewel taped her MTV special in New York City last November to debut her CD "Spirit", the EveryDay Angels Foundation designed and produced another EDA pick. Again, several hundred of these picks were given to Jewel, in hopes that she would use them and help promote the EDAF. Many more were distributed to the EDAs who were in the MTV audience that day. The design on these picks includes a web site address on one side that says: www. EveryDay Angels .org The "EveryDay Angels" is VERY bold and stands out, while the "www" and "org" are downplayed. The opposite side has the EDAF logo printed on it. This logo is a variation on the wonderful watercolor birthday card that Amy Neufeld painted for the list when we presented Jewel with news of the star that was named after her. The purpose of these picks is to promote the EDAF by advertising our web site, and to expose folks to the phrase and concept of "EveryDay Angels" as often as possible! As the person who did the production artwork for both picks (my silly "schmoo" angel was on the first ones), I have to admit that I like the new picks MUCH better. A gif graphic showing the designs of both sides is available for viewing at: www.edaf.org/edapicks.gif Technical specs: the picks are yellow .73mm medium guage with black ink imprinted by the folks at D'Addario (again, the same type we used for the first run). However, the ink used on these has a special epoxy mixture, which makes the printing EXTREMELY DURABLE. I have been using one almost daily for two months, and it still looks brand new. This is the pick guage and size Jewel has used in the past, and seems to be a good bet for those who actually play guitar... Anyway, we will occasionally distribute these picks as a promotional item, but if you want to snag a few of them (and support the Foundation while you're at it), we will offer them as an incentive to generous supporters. Here's how it works: Send a business sized self addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) with cash, check, or money order made payable to "EDAF" to: EDAF Picks c/o Dennis Harris PO Box 305 East Taunton, MA 02718 For every $2 donation to the EDAF, we'll send you a free thank-you gift of three (3) EveryDay Angel guitar picks. (The more you donate, the more picks we'll send you!) You'll also receive a receipt for your charitable donation. Please note that any order made with a check will take up to an additional ten days to process. Cash and money order requests will be sent out within 48 hours. We currently have a limited number of picks available, but will certainly supply whatever demand there is!
