She said he sold over 10x the # of albums a normal support act sells through the merchandisng stall. This is quite an achievement as in Adelaide he didn't have any albums at all on the stall, I presume this was also the case at the gigs before Adelaide. ( Perth, Melbourne) So if you can folks, get along to see him!!!!!, Oh I also ask if maybe Jewel would be there with him, but she said not that she knows off, but you never know. Cheers!!! I think that her friends where justified in shooting their mouthes off at the door guy. I most likely, would have too. Sometimes you need a little action in a night. - -AL ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 1999 22:53:44 EST From: JohnTracy4@aol.com Subject: Site quotes that I hate :-o This came from a section of a web site that I happened to fall on. I can't stand this little comment here. "Spirit," carefully produced by longtime Madonna cohort Patrick Leonard, represents a major leap in high fidelity. Leonard keeps the focus on Jewel's voice while adding just enough Nutra-folk sweetener -- pillow-soft keyboards, softly padding drums -- to avoid the drabness of "Pieces of You," to avoid the drabness of "Pieces of You." ? How can they say that? Pieces of You, is still the better album for its live feel, to me. Anyway, here is the link. http://cgi.pathfinder.com/ew/review/0,1683,381,00.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 1999 20:52:10 -0500 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: NJC: Northern Sounds Songwriter Showcase -=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=- | Northern Sounds Productions Presents | | | REBECCA TIMMONS & RAYANNE & JESSICA WEISER | | | A Songwriter Showcase | | | Sat March 27, 9:00pm | The Free Times Cafe | | 320 College St (2 blocks west of Spadina) | Toronto, ON 416-967-1078 | | Pay what you can | Info at: http://webhome.idirect.com/~nsounds/showcase/ | Or via email at: nsounds@bigfoot.com | -=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=--=*=- Rebecca Timmons is a local singer/songwriter/pianist with a confessional bent. Except, this time I listened more carefully. I mean I do listen to Jewel's songs carefully but this time I listened even more. The point of my post? Well, I don't understand why some people think that "Hands" is one of Jewel's worst songs. For a song that has so much meaning and has done so well, I just don't get it. I am not saying change your opinion, I am just wondering. You don't realize how much this song helps out others too. In Home and Careers class (yes, I have to take H/C), we got this sheet and one of the questions was "What is the song that has the most meaning to you and who is it by"? My good friend was sitting right next to me and right away she wrote "Hands" by Jewel. I noticed it being an EDA and all :-) and asked her about it. I told her that I also love that song (but she already knew). She explained to me that "Hands" makes her want to be a better person and that the song makes her want to be kind even after a hard day. After hearing that, I took a listen to "Hands" again and I really listened. I found a bigger meaning in this song and realized how much this must affect people. I mean, think about it. After a hard day, you are driving home and all of the sudden you hear "Hands" on the radio. You think nothing of the musical beginning but all of the sudden you hear the lyrics "If I could tell the world one thing it'd be, we're all okay". Maybe that brings a smile to you or makes you feel good inside. And when you are feeling helpless "And not to worry cause worry is wasteful and useless in times like these". And when you are feeling useless "My Hands are small I know, but they're not yours they are my own.....I am never broken". And when you feel mean "In the end only kindness matters". Doesn't the song sound beautiful? I think so.
