There are some people you should be careful with when trading angel food. I have compiled a list of the Bad Traders on my web site. Since I put it up, many EDAs have e-mailed me saying that they too were ripped off by these same people and wish this "Bad Traders" list was available to them along time ago. I tried to post it to the list a long time ago, but it got snuffed by management, for good reasons of course. <--- that's for you Mikie. :) So before you do any trading, please view my "Bad Traders" list at the end of my Angel Food list on my web site. Take Care! Mike Carmona P.S. What should matter is that we are all the same- yes the same. We all like Jewel, right? (Those people who say maybe, or no, and keep on dissing her- I have no idea what you are doing on the list.) It doesn't matter how long you have been on, its not like job experience, especially not since the same arguments keep on coming back over, and over, and over again. No experience or knowledge gained there... Why??? Does anyone find this enjoyable? Shouldn't the list be enjoyed, not regretted? And about dissing Mike; that's just cruel. He does work hard, and he does do it for our benefit, so we should all really shut up and be respectful of him. I know he is a big help, he's answered some of my questions before when I was doing a rather large tape trade... so I do not understand why you guys are making this so bad for him... (don't do it) sorry for going on for so long (those who read(I don't read most of these myself)) ;-) take care Jewel's Angel Barbara ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Mar 1999 17:53:51 -0500 From: "Willms, Gregory J." Subject: RE: Get off your high horses! I don't know where people are getting the idea that all vets think that they're better than anyone else, or bigger fans than other people. I keep reading these posts from upset and offended "newbies" and I simply don't see what's pissing them off so badly. I seriously doubt that any vets really think that they're better than anyone else. And even if they do, what do you care? YOU know that no one is better than anyone else, so what difference does it make? So it seems like my point has become; stop worrying so much about everyone else. None of us are perfect, and I think if we spent as much time trying to better ourselves as we did trying to correct or better others, we'd all be a lot better off. - -----Original Message----- From: razule@aol.com [mailto:razule@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 17, 1999 2:13 PM To: Jewel@smoe.org Subject: NJC: Get off your high horses! hello all, My name is michelle and I guess that I can be considered a "newbie" to the list. I have been a member for about a month now and this is the first time that I have posted. I really resent the fact the "vets" think they are superior to us. Granted, they do more about the list then me but i am eager and willing to learn. They are no more devoted to Jewel then I am. To say that I am not a true fan because I am new to the list is completely unfair. I know my fair share of info and yes, I do enjoy the "before she was popular" music of jewel. So get off you high horses and stop implying that you are better fans and all around superior to others, because the simple fact is that YOU AREN'T!!!!!! ~michelle ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Mar 1999 18:37:45 EST From: jennifer s ledray Subject: Jewel intimidated by Shirley Manson Hey People I was looking through some of my old magazines, and in one of them, I think it was YM, there was this small article on Jewel's most embarrasing moments. There were about 4 different questions, and then her answers. One of the questions was "Name a time you felt like crawling under a big rock." Jewel answered "I was going onstage after Garbage at a festival one time, and Shilrey Manson was so cool and the sound was huge. Meanwhile, I had on clogs and a little yellow shirt. I though, I'm such a dork!" I kinda found it funny that Jewel was intimidated by Shirley. But then again, there's probably good reason for that, cause boy does Shirley have a way of making the crowd move and have a good time! Jewel, I guess isn't as entertaining (for some people) to watch. She just kinda stands there and plays her guitar, while Shirley's bouncing around and can't sit still, as she screams at the crowd. Sorry, just an opinion. Don't hate me for it. If you have been to both a Jewel concert and a Garbage concert, you would know what I am talking about! Jennifer ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Mar 1999 15:54:32 PST From: "Andrea Schlesinger" Subject: Jewel in kid's book Hi Angels, I ordered a book from a club called "Egg-cellent Celebrities". It gives a quick little profile on certain celebrities and tells you how they would decorate their Easter eggs. None of these celebrities were interviewed for the book, so the author is pretty much guessing how the celebrities would decorate their egg. There is a picture of Jewel and others on the cover, and on the first page they have another picture of her. On page ten there are five pictures of her and a title at the top: The Egg-ceptional Jewel. Here's what they had to say: This gem from Alaska has succeeded at everything she's tried:music, poetry, and even acting. But it wasn't eggs-actly easy for Jewel to make it big. After moving to California, where she hoped to be discovered, Jewel had to live out of a van when she couldn't pay rent on an apartment. When you consider that she took up the guitar only in her senior year of high school, she hasn't done so badly for herself. Five years later, she's released two albums, Pieces of You and Spirit; made her feature film debut as the female lead in the Civil War drama entitled Ride With the Devil; published a book of poetry, A Night Without Armor, and a memoir. Her two books alone have fetched Jewel $2 million. Besides all that, Jewel can yodel and surf, probably at the same time. One thing you may not know about this sweet-voiced folky gem: She was in a rap group called La Creme. Jeweled Eggs Colors: Tie-dye Special Effects: Inscribe a song title (maybe "You Were Meant For Me") or lines from her poetry using crayons or colored pencils. Props: Plastic jewels pasted on. Egg Action: Jewel would definitely want to decorate her eggs and eat them, too. No toxic materials for her! A little dorky, but the pictures are cute! -Andrea "the nine year old angel" Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Mar 1999 18:28:25 -0500 From: wdb@obl.bidmc.harvard.edu (William D. WHO'S WITH ME!? yo, h, can i live with you when i come visit??? maybe we can walk the streets late at night with our cash in our hands and the southeast asian moonlight in our eyes. mmmm, sounds like true love. you game? seriously, there's no need to leave the list based on an email like the one you were responding to. you lamented about "if" everyone on the list holds the same views as sean, that you'd leave. well, i'm sure it's not breaking news that everyone on this list is different and unique, and you won't be seeing too many posts like that. each should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt...or a bill pill (details later). okay, some jewel content to justify my post...uuh, she's neat and i like her. she's got a fabulous pair of.... ...talents, in songwriting and singing. yeah, that's it. i like her a bunch. but not because she's "too darn hot." no, of course not. i'd also like this opportunity (stop groaning) to ask "isn't this a discussion list?" is it a requirement to be a fan of the girl? well, i'm a fan of all girls, heh, but i gotta say that i was not a fan of jewel until months after joining this list back in early '97 (yes! i consider myself an elitist veteran of jewel@smoe.org! stone me as you will!). i believe someone on the list was with me when i bought poy early in the summer of '97. that's right, i didn't even own poy when i attended my first (three) gatherings. i even had jewelstock and about six other tapes of angelfood before i had any commercially released jewel. what's my point? oh yeah, i don't believe you need to be all that much of a fan to discuss things. like i said, i wasn't, and lookit me now. all growed up and loved by many...well, by a few at least (keep your hands to yourself, dennis). actually, i can't remember the last time i didn't change the radio station when a jewel song came on. i think i've migrated to the "fan of each other" aspect of this list. does that mean i have to leave? now to harken back to the ol' days of eda cafe where i first met the eda's and was treated to cindy lee and elizabeth in the comfort of a dorchester (take cover!) livingroom. ah, those were the days. this is something i don't believe i've expressed, but the first friends i made after moving to boston were the eda's. after the eda cafe, the snyders continually dragged me out of my sauna of an apartment to go to shows. got into tara maclean and the rugburns because of them. patty griffin, too. most memorable show i attended in '97 was the rugburns at the paradise (nice ass, steve...can i spank it?). then i had to make the journey to bearsville for some camping, where i was treated to harris hurling one of his plush wet balls at my gonads. ouch! a great time was had by all, and i couldn't wait for the next year. especially with the opportunity to sleep in a tent with three eda chickies again! ;) met many an eda, and left counting the days to the lrt. took that roadtrip to nj (campbell's) and then lancaster (selena's)...mainly, i think, to meet more of the eda's. worth it. i remember the socializing, the laughing, recognizing who matched the emails i'd been reading for the many months prior. i also remember the backrubs i so generously offered...in my underwear. man, my legs sure were skinny. i've still got the pictures of me on that snakey couch at campbell's with the mulititude of females piled on me. aaahh, those were the days. oh yeah, selena's trampoline was cool, too. also made it to the cape cod and raynham shows. just an all around fantastic idea from the start to the late late night finish at the humpty-dumpty (can i touch your pants?). then came the jewel concerts in boston and lowell. amazing nights. hanging out with so many eda's in boston, to a small pre-show dinner with the small group who made it to the lowell performance. new years brought plenty of visits to boston by the friends i'd made the previous summer. tom, vickie, ali, and pud made it up, and were followed the next weekend by bond, lauren bond and ms. marion with the blue blue eyes. the only downside to the frequent visits of coolio's i've met on this list is the fact that we've always gotta part ways at some point. such is life. of course, they all came back about a month and a half later to see patty griffin. another fantastic weekend. this time, everyone stayed in my damn apartment! how cool! april of last year brought about a poltz show/birthday party at campbell's (thanks again), and therefore, another chance to get together with buds and budettes. having two of the list members invite me (as well as plenty of other eda's) to their wedding a week later sort of hints strongly at the closeness many of us have achieved by gathering once in awhile. either that, or we're all stalkers of each other. and we owe it all to the list! another bearsville gathering and lrt last summer provided several opportunities to recollect with friends...some of whom i hadn't seen in a long time. btw, vicki, it was just last month that my ankle finally started feeling normal! and then the jewel tv thingy!!! wow, what an opportunity that was. all because of the list. spending the night at the berberian's, takin' the train to nyc, and sitting in front of jewel on live tv...awesome. i guess you could say i'm still a fan, so i guess i can still be on this list, eh? thanks, eda police. well, i'm almost certain i've pissed someone off with this post. i guess i just wanted to convey how much of a difference this list has made in my life, show how many friends i've made out of being on it, and introduce myself to hardin in singapore! ;) (i'm 5'9", short brown hair, and my phone number is...) but most off all, i wrote to promote gatherings and list unity. i know you can't please everyone with everything you do, so keep that in mind when you think the gatherings are centered in one geographical area. want to be included in the fun? have one of your own, make friends with the eda's local to you, and advertise ad nauseum. believe me, i'd (we'd) love it if every single eda could come to every single gathering, but we all know it can't be that way. so do your best to have what fun you can. with all that said (incoherently, as i'm sure most of you will think) i'll quit with a few parting shots: - -jewel is only popular because she's hot. - -only list vets are true jewel fans. - -i heard from my flatmate's fiance's godfather's nephew's veteranarian that jewel's next cd is gonna be world beat with a hint of bluegrass country...so it must be true. - -everything you read on the net is true. - -this whole section is made up of lies. so...laugh, don't cry. hey, that rhymed! i think. thanks for reading, hope this got through, nice to see people who used to post back when i first got on the list (i didn't use the "v" word!) posting again. love, love me do. you know, i love you. billy b note: a "bill pill" (tm - william bartholomew) induces feelings of "yeah, whatever..." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Mar 1999 19:59:39 EST From: BenderGrrl@aol.com Subject: Please read mail before you reply! NEVER have I read a veteran say that they feel they are superior to ANY newbie so I'm not sure where one would get this.
