As Tammy said, why not just join the jewel news >list? A list that was set up just for that? I'm >sure we'd achieve some sort of re-kindling of old EDA friendship flames >you know? I'm relatively new to this list, and I usually don't post a thing, but I wanted to throw in my few pence worth (is pence worth more or less than cents? no matter) Anyway, I'm pretty sure the people who do only want news have signed onto that list, and that the people who are on this one do want to be a part of everyones ideas, whether they are about jewel or not. My point is, is that while a lot of us are new to this list, we are not new to jewel, and that just because some of you have been on here longer does not make you any more of a vet to her and her words that the rest us. Shouldn't our common thread here be Jewel, and not who has been here the longest? Ok, I've said a mouthful, and that's a lot more than I'm used to. Diana (the one who just sits back and listens) P.S. On a completely off Jewel note, everyone should check out Jonatha Brooke. She is an amazing musician, and one of the few who has gotten me to turn off my Ani cds completely for more than a week. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Mar 1999 23:04:26 -0500 From: "Jay" Subject: READ THIS!!!!!!!!! Hey guys what's happening. Well I haven't posted to the list in a really long time, so I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents after reading months and months of utter BULLSHIT. -Excuse the language- Everyone else wants to throw in their opinions...well here's mine! First of all, this list IS moderated...however I don't understand what it's being moderated for. I've sent messages to this list couple times (example: I was looking for --o)NICOLE(o-- who sent me a copy of "THE WALDEN BOOK REPOT - with Jewel on the cover - along with a copy of Angel food with some songs by Jewel.) So Nicole if you read this..get back at:alcoholic1@bigfoot.com I wanted to thank her, but lost her address. But that wasn't sent to the list...because it was "weeded out" because there would be too many wasted emails sent to the list if messages like those were aloud to go through. What kind of ridiculous double standard is that though? Say no because the list can't be filled up with wasted space...but you know what....that is ALL I keep getting in my email box day in day out!! What's that about though?? I haven't posted to this list in a hell of a long time because of it, I've been considering leaving this list all together because of it, and I don't read any posts to the list anymore because of all the childish pety bullshit! I'm starting to think that this list is filled with a bunch of kids who have nothing better to do than waste their time posting and arguing back and forth about things that are so ridiculous...it's not even funny anymore. The first couple ridiculous posts were fine....but come on!! I don't need to be on no list to be a fan...I can be as much of a fan off this list compared to anyone on this list...so please stop taking these ridiculous views I'm hearing about on how you're the greatest fan etc. etc. Grow up! Also, stop wasting your time...and more importantly mine with all of the emails on -Oh..Jewel changed...she's not the same anymore- -Oh..my saviour is different now...how will I ever go on-- God damn...if I had a nickel for every ridiculous email I've received!! So guys feel free to quit wasting my time anytime you're ready! But that wasn't sent >to the list.. Hi folks :-) To this day, quite a few emails come in looking for an EDA because an address was lost. Before the list became moderated, complaints would come in to me about these types of posts. You see....a list owner is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't...... So, since the list became moderated 15 months ago, EVERY SINGLE TIME a post like this came in I *always* write back to the person and offer my help in finding the persons email address, using my list archives and the log of subscribers to find the address for the person. Nine times out of ten I succeed in finding the person and there are literally a couple of hundred list members out there who will attest to that fact. So I take great offense to this post. I did not want to post about recent topics yet, but this one sort of forced me to. I am preparing a series of posts about the recent threads, and a couple of them deal with very good reasons as to why this list is moderated and really has to remain that way. I've sent a rough draft to about 6 folks who are relatively new to this list and in all six cases they told me basically "wow, I had no idea...." or "very effective....seriously....." etc. So, please bear with me while I prepare these posts. But as I was glancing through my copy of ANWA it says on the back Jewel was born and raised in Alaska.. which is clearly false... I dunno, just had to comment... BTW.. I am moving to Houston Tx from Abilene the day after tomorrow, just wondering who all is down there?.... take care Rowdy "Cause now it seems that you wanted a martyr, just a regular guy wouldn't do, but I can't hang from no Lover's Cross for you." We need something to talk about, sure these discussions about how the list could be better is great, but we can still talk about something else, can't we?? Because Newbies joing the list these days are probally thinking "What the heck have I gotten myself into!" :) Lets start a new thread, I know not everyone here is particularly thrilled with Jewel's new Video for "Down so Long" am I correct? Thought so. How about we play a little "Look for the Hidden meaning" game! :) Lets all post about little things you've seen in the video that you had to ponder for a while. Or better yet, things in the video that made you realize something about the song you hadn't befor. Things aren't always as simple as they seem. ;) For example, the end of the video, where it starts snowing and everything seems to just look more cheery in general. That made me realize that at the end of the song, Jewel is out of the "Down so Long" period of her life. Up till then I thought the song was a little more hopeless then I realized after seeing the video. Also, can anyone see what any of those things taped to the wall at the beginning are? I've only been able to see it on RealVideo. And if you haven't seen it on TV yet, you can go to: www.jeweljk.com or one of my very fav sites "Alien Invasion" at: http://w3.one.net/~alien/html/jewel_home.html Have fun thinking! :) I'd love to hear what you think the video represents or lends to the song! :) Greg == |EveryDay Angel / Guitar Strummer / Fumbler Towards Ecstacy| |Wannabe Actor / Proud Spice Fan / Song and Poem Writer :) | ~we are loved beyond our ability to comprehend~ \0/ -Jewel Kilcher /|\ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Mar 1999 23:56:53 EST From: BRONCOBAND@aol.com Subject: NJC:Don't have to read--just looking for people in the area Hi! Well, All this talk about community made me want to ask if there are any EDA's in the Atlanta, Georgia area. I would like to hear from ya'll if so---maybe we can have a get together :o). I would really like that. Have a good day! Or at least try :o) Laura ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Mar 1999 00:24:18 -0500 (EST) From: Joseph Chou Subject: vets vs newbies and the structure of the list (part one) Hi, all, I have a theory on the views some vets have on newbies (real or perceived) : Most of the "vets" signed-on before Jewel broke into the mainstream, when Jewel was approachable (physically), her music and performances intimate, and the list is where everybody knows your name. Now you can't see her without a binocular, her music maybe too commercial for some, her concerts filled by rowdy drunks, and on the list - "newbies". I postulate that some vets may have associated newbies with other "unpleasant" things happening at the same time (eg. some rude people met at the last concert), and stereotype newbies as one of the rowdy crowd who's here just to be cool, and hence not a real fan. And the newbies who are here for exactly the same reasons as the vets long ago are not able to prove themselves due to the large number of people on this list. [Note that in some cases, the relationship between the change in Jewel's style and her popularity (ie. number of newbies) is not exactly clear. Also, any/all views of the vets I'm describing maybe be real or perceived only (ie. exist only in some newbies' mind). Such situations are understandable however, as many acceptable conversations in intimate company are considered rude or offensive to strangers.] So the main issue is of intimacy/closeness. Within a intimate/close environment, the boundary of vets and newbies is bound to disappear much faster. But how to achieve intimacy and closeness for a group of 2000? (or however many subscribers there are to this list) intimacy and closeness imply small number of people ...
