I am from NZ, and am going to Jewels concert on the 19th of this month Will tell you all about it, but I think I can be pretty sure it won't be as exciting as Louise's tales from Aus :) She sure has some spunk. Anyone tell me how the tape tree works? Sorry for asking questions that may be obvious. The program was "Night Birds host", the DJ was Danny Robas (he's a israeli singer, not a bad one either), and he was going on and on about "society" and "beauty" and how they combine, and played songs on the subject. Suddenly I noticed the song playing sounded familiar... he played Pieces of You, as a song that talks about "pretty girl"s and "ugly girl"s and how we see them. This is the first time in 2.5 years (since I joined the list) that I've heard a non-single (not WWSYS, YWMFM, Foolish Games or Hands) Jewel song on Israeli radio. It wasn't the CD version, but out of a live performance (or so he said), so I'm gonna try and find out which concert. Another barrier broken for Jewel intl. :) 42, Tuff - TIE ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 06:17:28 -0700 From: J Mallow Subject: RE: jewel rockies rerun? FRONT ROW! *grin* I bought it at 10 am, the moment Sistic opened :-) The official site at www.jeweljk.com has updated tour dates up. Oh God, I'm so excited about the concert! Well, honestly speaking, I'm actually more thrilled about seeing Steve Poltz more than Jewel... I'm a huge fan of his music, and have a bigger crush on him ;-) Take care of yourself. You know it really easy the simple things in life that can mean so much to you. This is my first post in over two-years and I can't get over the happy feeling of just typing in "jewel@smoe.org" ... it's been either too long, or maybe I am just too simple-minded (shut up Dennis). Actually, I just wanted fulfill a promise I made back in 1996, when I said, "I'll switch back to the regular list from news-only when the new CD is released." Of course, when I wrote that the CD was only **a-few-months** away from release. That was October 1996. Anyway, looking forward to once again immersing myself in all that is EDA. It's at: http://www.joyedenharrison.com/jeh/ For folks that are unfamiliar with Joy, she's one of the most talented musicians/songwriters to emerge out of that same "InnerChange scene" that brought Jewel & Steve Poltz to the attention of the world. Back when Jewel had her regular Thursday night gig there, Joy had the same thing going on Friday nights. Many EDAs are familiar with Joy from her track ("Where Have You Gone Jimmy Dean"-with Jewel on scat vocals) from the "Innerchange Days" tapes as well as another song that Joy & Jewel wrote together called "The Man Who's Already Gone". Joy was also a featured artist on "Future Folklore Volume 3" & will be featured more extensively on "FF4" later this year. Joy has since relocated to Chicago, but continues to write & perform around the country & is currently back in the Southern California area promoting her new album. (Tour dates & info on her site) I highly encourage you to check into Joy's music. She's truly unique & an extremely captivating performer. Her newest release "Unspoken" is wonderful & my favorite release so far this year. You can sample it for free at the site. If you like, you can also order it directly there. They've added a lot of content since I first posted about Joy's site including a lot of current photos (including a few from LRT 98), sound files from "Unspoken" & current Sothwest USA Tour date info. If you are in Southern California, check out her shows! You can thank me later. ;-) I almost forgot to mention that Joy Eden Harrison will be doing an upcoming Living Room Concert in Santa Fe, New Mexico on Friday evening, March 26th. All EDA & Ecto subscribers in the Santa Fe area are invited to attend. However, with seating limited at these intimate LRT gigs, RSVPs are necessary. For any questions, directions & RSVP replies, please contact Duff Martin at JustDuff@aol.com. She'll be most happy to help you. MacPhee" Subject: Daily Telegraph Magazine(British)/Snyder Hi EDA's, I got a surprise today. I don't know if anyone has posted this- to my knowledge they haven't. My Uncle and Aunt came out to visit us last Friday, and when I heard about this at the beginning of the year, I asked if it was possible that they could maybe get the DSL CD single. Alas, it has not come out yet(Katherine, what's the situation?). BUT, when I saw that Q had an article on Jewel, I asked if it was possible that they could pick up that- they did, and they also brought along a magazine with a cover article on Jewel(The picture is the same one as the one used in Rolling Stone where she has flowers in her hair). the magazine came with a newspaper, The daily Telegraph. If people respond, I'll type it up and send it to them, So reply personally to amacphee@medieaone.net , subject: telegraph article By the way, what was your opinion of Snyder? He seemed to be a bit clueless. He didn't do his homework, that you could plainly see. "So you moved to Alaska with your Dad?" D'oh! I would have preferred the Jon Stewart interview- was that one a full hour? I'm glad that she sang, if she hadn't I would really have been really ticked off. Don't you think it's a bit ironic that Jon Stewart, who did most of Tom's fill-in work, now is doing The Daily Show, and Craig Kilborn, who was a great Daily Show host(But better than Jon?)is now taking over Tom's job? It would be great if Craig could interview Jewel, no? Firstly, the "Down So Long" single is out is Australia (der..). The cover is beige/brown with Jewel's face on the right (looking rather whitish). It has the following tracks (just in case of international differences, etc): 1. "Down So Long" (Album version) 2. "Fat Boy" (Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire, London, November, 1997) 3. "I'm Sensitive" (Live at Innerchange Coffeehouse, San Diego) I taped the 'Jewel Day' which was shown throughout the day on OptusVision (cable) on March 7th. I was a little dissapointed with it on the whole. It started with MTV Fanatic (10:00am) which I enjoyed but there wasn't enough of it! (25 mins or so) and half of it was dedicated to those two actor twins. The questions were well thought and the answers were good - nice job Sara! Then at 1:30pm was 'Collections', which was all the Jewel film clips (not many!). I hadn't really seen them before so it was quite interesting. Disapointingly, they did *not* show the new "Down So Long" film clip even though it would have been a perfect opportunity to perhaps premire it. Since there are only four Jewel songs released, the whole program only went for 15 mins! At 5:30 pm was the 'Jewel TV' special. This was quite good because it was relatively recent. The live 'Hands' was alright but not as good as the tour version! The band and the sound is a lot different to the tour. Again, it wasn't long enough and there were too many ads. Ah well. Finally, there was 'MTV Unplugged - Jewel' which I have seen before but don't have a copy. Sorry for the whinge but I was a bit disapointed because there wasn't enough content and it wasn't recent enough. The 'Jewel' day would have been a perfect opportunity to premire the 'Down So Long' video and/or show the Jewel 'MTV Biorhythm' special. Ah well again - - sorry for the whinge. Yes, the WWSYS which Jewel performs on the 'Spirit' tour is also kind of reggae and goes for about 10mins! It has a lot of vocal gymnastics to say the least. Good news for Steve Poltz fans downunder. He will return to Australia after the Singapore leg of the 'Spirit' tour to do a mini tour of Australia. This may be around middle April I think. This is only going by information he said himself at the Melbourne 4th March concert. Does this mean he will not play some/parts of the 'Spirit' tour? Could anyone who taped (audio) any of the Melbourne shows please drop me an email please? I tried to record it and failed dismally (technology failure - never rely on it...) I'm still trying to calm down, it was the most frustrating thing that's happened for a long time. Lastly, a couple of people (including the media) have mentioned Jewel looking/feeling tired/run down. From the observations that I've made (merely observations!) I would have to agree with this. In her Australian interviews she looks and sounds a tired and sometimes not quite 'with it'. Also, the two times I (and a friend) went to meet her (yes, we're freaks... I know....)she looked thoroughly exhausted (photos to show it!)and not that responsive. Bear in mind though, she had just performed live for about two hours on both occasions. I think touring does take its toll on the performer though. Just observations.....any thoughts? Fellow Aussie EDA's? Enough said for now, Dave - the Aussie Angel. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 17:15:41 PST From: "Eliot Lemoncelli" Subject: Jewel's next album Hi everybody Yes, I know it's kinda early to be talking about Jewel's next album but I got a great idea I'd like to pass on.. I was thinking that it would be cool if Jewel would let us pick the songs on her next album. We could do a poll to see what the most popular 10-20 unreleased(stuff not on her 2 albums)Jewel songs are then have her do those songs for the album. This would allow the some of the really good unreleased songs to hit the airways, you know like "1000 miles away", "Sometimes It Will Be That Way", "Why I hate Valentine's Day" etc The album's possible title "EveryDay Angel"- a reference to her and us at the same time.
