I thought she looked beautiful as always, but I think there should have been more of a story or something to it. Jewel is just pretty much standing up there with the band, playing the guitar and singing. If I want to see her do that I would watch her on Rock the Rockies or some other TV program, I wanted to see some kind of story or something, but thats just me. Nate the nutty angel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Mar 1999 01:26:13 EST From: Angeljlr98@aol.com Subject: Jewel Rocks the Rockies Had to comment on this concert. =) Overall...I thought it was pretty damn good. Down So Long was er...=I. I thought it Hands was beautiful...better than usual. Foolish Games was amazing =) I sat through the whole thing PRAYING that she wouldn't ruin such a beautiful rendition with her wailing in the end, like she tends to do...and she didn't =) And the piano was beautiful! It was nice to hear it again. Although I'm a huge fan of the older version of Deep Water, I have to say...this version was great live! She was very spirited while singing it...I enjoyed it. I thought it was really cute when they all started dancing a little during the bridge...=) And the end was beautiful...what more can I say. Fat Boy was Fat Boy. You Were Meant For Me was You Were Meant For Me...ya know..."I was happy, I was sad" Ugh, though. I mean she sang that WHOLE song in her cutesy voice, and although I like the cutesy voice...ugh. Steve Rocked though =) What's Simple is True sounded really great live with the band. (I LOVE YOU, CILLA!!!!!) Then Jupiter. AAAAAAAAH!!! SHE SANG JUPITER! First off, I wasn't too impressed...and it really annoyed me when she said crihizy. What the heck does crihizy mean? You meake me so crihizy baby...whatever. But the end, MY GOD...I thought it was amazing. She did it SO great. Great. =) Amazing. =) Kiss the Flame was really pretty, and Cold SOng and Who Will Save Your SOul were okay. Okay...that's my review...I was highly pleased =) Love, Jamie *the everyotherday angel* ~Take these stars from my crown, let the years fall down~ JK ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Mar 1999 01:15:32 -0500 From: Alan Roukey Subject: big week Hello Angels, This has been a very big week for Jewel and her fans. We were treated to the release of her new video, "Down So Long" and her Aspen concert on VH-1. Some lucky people in Australia actually got to see her live this week. Jewel is a very spiritual singer. She really extends herself to us spiritually. For that I am very grateful. I have felt more love in my life listening to "Spirit" the last few weeks then anywhere else in my life. However, there is a cost to extending oneself spiritually. I think that Jewel is tired. The album "Spirit" is no small feat. "Spirit" is one of the finest albums ever recorded. About a year and a half ago I was trying very hard to write the perfect song. I felt a tremendous amount of pressure to write the perfect spiritual song. I racked my brain for weeks on end. I ate, drank and slept nothing but my dream of the perfect song. It left me exhausted to the point that I still feel the effects to this very day. What I am trying to say is we should give Jewel a wide berth at this time in her life. Spirit didn't just fall out of a hay wagon. She worked way too hard on that album for it not to have left her exhausted. During my adventures in spiritual writing, I found that it was virtually impossible to sing the same spiritual song twice. They mean too much. I decided that what is of the intellect is of the intellect, and what is of the spirit is spirit. To try and duplicate a spiritual message time and time again is far too much to ask of anyone. I am not a world cup performer. I really don't know what it means to be one. But my little race left me breathless. Jewel has outpaced the world. All I've gotta say is that channel has some serious sound problems. The show was great, but doesn't quite beat out the Unplugged show(remember that one?). The whole reggae WWSYS is hoppin to say the least. With Mr.BB roping plywood cattle and Jewel looking/sounding like a country musician...Jewel's going to be on TNN plugging "Ride With The Devil" in September! :-) No worries. Still haven't seen DSL video. Doh! A line that I can remember from the show that is kinda sorta classic: "I had to go back to make-up. Its like being back in 4th grade!" I only say it on Real Player (thanks guys) but i must say i loved it, i know most people who wrote wernt fond of it, but to me, i loved every minute of it. I like the way they cut back to the band, i feel the darkness was a very good touch, and well i loved it. It might be because i dont see very much of Jewel where i live, but i know what i like and i liked that video. Any Way's :) Catchya's later :) Take care :) Shane :) The angel who uses excessive :) smiley faces :))) P.S. Cant wait for the 16th of March, i get to so Jewel after being down for so long :) (sorry for that last line :)) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Mar 1999 03:14:27 EST From: Stevie3103@aol.com Subject: Jewel Rockin' the Rockies Well, i really enjoyed watching this performance although i felt like i put on the spirit album even thoguh there was YWMFM, FG and cold song. it was special and i liked how she changed the style of some of the songs. what i don't like is how she used retarded as an adjective. I mean, it's like saying, I look so "gay" or "black" or "white" or "handicapped" you know? well, that's all i wanna say. I'm 17 from Melbourne Australia and although I've liked Jewel since Who Will Save Your Soul and I have both albums I have only recently become a freak fan after going to her 3rd melb concert at the palais which absolutely rocked! Most amazing experience of my life! A little more about me musically... I play acoustic guitar, piano and have penned a few songs of my own... not exactly Jewel quality but they never will be.. *Ashley* >Ok, the first question is: Are Jewel and Steve Poltz together, together a >long time ago, just friends....etc..... can anybody tell me? I'm very >interested to know. I was wondering this myself after going to the concert cos there was really something there when they sang You Were Meant For Me but I've been told that they were in fact together when they wrote You Were Meant For Me... I never knew he was the guy in the clip but I knew that the guy in the clip was an ex boyfriend of hers so when i found out it was him clever little me put 2 and 2 together lol.. Just for the record my friend and I have fallen for Poltzy after seeing him perform at the concert... he's such a cutie and soooo funny!!! Am I like the only one on this list that doesn't have VH1? Everyone seems to have mentioned it in the last post and I feel I have missed out!! I wanna see her hair extensions! Oh yeah the person who recommended this mailing list to me told me that the girl Louise who did the wine tasting thing with steve at the 3rd concert is on this list... Hi!!! I'm so jealous of you!! Just wanted to let you know that you're damn lucky! Anyway that's it for now... I hope I'm doing this right... see ya all lots of love christine ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Mar 1999 04:02:27 -0500 From: Diana Foster Subject: big blue Hey Angels-- I was watching Jewel Rocks the Rockies and was ecstatic to see her blue guitar there. Not that there is anything wrong with that (I guess). Maybe it was just all the Vogue people in the front rows or something. Does anyone know if they cut any songs out and which ones. I thought someone posted a setlist a long time ago, but I'm not sure. Jill ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Mar 1999 04:41:52 EST From: Drake34@aol.com Subject: Re: rockies rocked weak So what if she looked weird or whatever...yeah she knows what she looks like when she's not with her guitar. But that probably wasn't why she became such a great artist...not by her looks, but by her voice. I really don't think those at the Wheeler Opera House were so concerned by her "appearence" maybe a little, but if you watch it again you can see how she captivated the audience. I was even captivated at home watching it. Yeah, maybe her looks are a little extreme but so what. Q: On her hugely succesful CD Spirit, Jewel makes reference to faith and God in such a way that I'm sure she must be Roman Catholic. Yet I've heard nothing specific about her religion. A: That's becuase the 24-year-old singer belongs to no conventional church. She was exposed as a youth to her parents' Mormon faith, her only expreieance with organized religion. Still, her spiritual influences were many, says author P.J. McFarland, whose biography Angel Standing By is in stores. Jewel's father was a social worker who instilled a sense of doing godd; her upbringing in the vastness of Alaska gave her a sense of Godliness that drives her "quest for knowledge of things larger than herself." I was reading the paper this morning and found this article with a beautful picture of Jewel, which at first i thought resembled Gwyneth Paltrow. You can find this article in the USA weekend Sunday paper supplement. I loved it! I think that the music was awesome. My personal favorite that she sang last night was her whoop-ars (ya' know what I mean angels) version of "Who Will Save Your Soul". That one really blew me away! Did anyone else think that was an incredible version of her song? I liked all of her other songs too. And as to some of you, (you know who you are...just joking!!) who are complaining about her looks, how she dresses, etc JUST TURN UP THE VOLUME AND LISTEN TO THE DAMN MUSIC!!!! Jeez, what are we on this list for. I know that I don't usually talk about hair extensions, and makeup but if that's all your on for....well think about it. If I could, I would just go to your houses (creepy thought, huh?), and I would fool around with the color thingies on the TV until the screen was completly BLACK, and I would turn up the volume as far as it goes, and maybe you would see that there is more to Jewel than just some hair extensions, okay? I mean, if you haven't noticed NEW FLASH: That girl can sing!!! Sometimes, it sounds to me like some of you are just looking for things to complain about on Jewel's looks. She is 24 years old and I am pretty sure she can handle everything. I mean, she has come from practically nothing (you know the whole "no heat, no water" thing) to this and she has been through a lot...she has her feet on the ground and has been handling things greatly. If you think that Jewel is reading posts about what she looks like, and how she should change her looks (did I mention she was 24?! Oh yeah, I did), etc THINK AGAIN!!! She is busy as heck and I think we are all mature enough to know that...it doesn't take a genius or anything. And frankly, I think that if we knew that Jewel were reading these posts, some of you wouldn't write the things you have been writing in. I mean, I have read posts that have said flat-out that Jewel looked bad and has said nothing about her music! Would you say that to her face? I for one, am a big believer in the thing where if you can't say it to someone's face, than don't say it at all. Of course, I am just speaking my opinion. So, by all means, blow Jewel's looks off. It's not my waste of time it's yours. Cause I know that when I am reading the digest and come across something of that nature, I will just skip, skip, skip, and delete, delete, delete. Maybe I should have done that in the first place, and not written this, but I couldn't keep it in. I always thought that kindness matters, not looks, but hey of course that is coming from the mouth of the person some of you are blowing up on so, no I guess that you don't have to pay attention to those words since of course SHE LOOKS BAD, and SHE HAS HAIR EXTENSIONS, and OH NO, SHE HAS MAKE-UP ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @~Rachel~@ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Mar 1999 16:33:59 -0500 (EST) From: "Mike Gray" Subject: Two quick questions about the Digital Spew competition (from aaaages ago now...)
