She looked so good and I loved how she did such a variety of songs! The band was great and she actually talked to the audience. The only part l didn't like was that she didn't yodel ! (!!!!!) Besides that part l thought it was awesome and I can't wait to see her again on this tour! ~Jess<3 El Angel de Esperanza ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Mar 1999 18:05:44 PST From: "Sang-Wun Kim" Subject: Sydney concert ticket available Hey All, Well Jewel is coming to Sydney this week, and it looks like I have an excess ticket on her Saturday night gig (that's Saturday 13th March at the State Theatre). If you are the one to obtain this ticket I should let you know there is good news and there is bad news. The bad news is you'll be sitting next to me, the good news is that it is in the FRONT ROW. I'm going to try and do this as fairly and smoothly as possible, So here are a few rules/instructions: Make sure the request is sent to me and not the list (NOT jewel@smoe.org). Only one request per person. You must definetly be able to make it to the concert on Saturday March 13, State Theatre Sydney. Give me a name and contact details. You must be a devoted Jewel Fan (or appreciate her music at least). I will gather all the mails put the names in a hat and draw a winner, your gonna have to trust my honesty on this one. I believe I will make the draw on Thursday 11th March (draw subject to change - you never know?!?). The ticket will cost you $60.00AUS (which is cheaper than the box office price). that's about it, see you at the concert! - -Sang. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 22:06:21 EST From: Sunshn7577@aol.com Subject: Steve Poltz & Jewel? Hey EDA's- I'm new to the list and this is my very first post so bare with me. I just have a couple of questions. Ok, the first question is: Are Jewel and Steve Poltz together, together a long time ago, just friends....etc..... can anybody tell me? I'm very interested to know. Second question: Is Jewel touring right now with SPIRIT? If so is she going to be stopping in New England anywhere? And if not, will she be touring with it sometime in the future??? Those are all my questions. If someone could please answer them for me that'd be great. Thanks. ~*Ashley, the daydreaming Angel*~ P.S. I just got done watching Jewel on the rockies (or whatever it was called) and I thought it was really great. I've never seen Jewel do or whole show of songs or seen one of her "concerts" but I would like to. Anyway, I'm glad she did a little bit of her new songs and a little bit of her old songs! Write me and tell me what you thought! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 21:03:49 -0800 From: luna! luna! Subject: rockies rocked weak couldn't keep quiet on this one. i think jewel is in some sort of intracareer crisis where she doesn't know whether she wants to be cute and girly or voluptuous and sexy. it is reflective in her voice, her attire, and most of all, her body language. but at least she knows how strange she looks without her guitar, flappin her arms all about.:-) of course this isn't a new thing. she has always looked silly without a guitar----even in the wizard of oz and those first few scary foolish games performances where she abandoned her guitar. so why am i dwelling so much on appearance? because you can see it is obviously foremost in jewel's mind right now as well. and she is bothered by it. that explains the little makeup artist in her ear. how obnoxious! and look what they are doing to her. i mean her clothes and hair in the show could have been fine if she didn't look so uptight. i can just imagine all the thoughts that must run through her mind distracting her from singing. "i wonder what everyone is saying about my ass" "do they dig the extensions?" "can they tell my lips aren't really as big as they are trying to make them look?" "this room has vogue editors pinned in everycorner estimating my measurements" i could quite possibly be wrong. but from what i can OBSERVE, her imagists are cramping her style. it is so nice to see steve everywhere lately. it is a dream come true. but at the same time, i don't think jewel has quite adapted to performing with her band. i don't remember when this show was taped, perhaps the australian eda's can say whether she is looking more comfortable with them. but all of the songs seemed in the wrong key for her even though they were in her normal keys. she kept switching from that disgusting, tongue-ish, no consonant baby voice to her low full-bodied glottal voice mid phrase and in my opinion sounded forced and uncomfortable. i really enjoyed kiss the flame and cold song, though. especially cold song because she had that spark we rarely see anymore. and i must admit, i really liked her hair. but i am glad it isn't permanent. i just wish she looked comfortable and sure of herself. funny, when she was speaking in black and white between songs, she seemed so opposite of how she looked on stage. maybe she was just nervous or having a bad night. maybe she was getting over a cold. luna ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 22:14:29 -0500 From: Courtney M Gordon Subject: angelfood titles Dear Angels, Okay, I know there is a ton of it floating around, but help me out here anyway. I need yall to send me a list of the angelfood you have. Well, no not the angelfood, but the names of the songs you know of that are on angelfood tapes. Like I said, I know there are a billion songs, but I need the titles of the ones you know of and/or have. Don't ask why, it's a kind of a long story. Thank you SOOO much for all that can help me out! love and lollipops Courtney the EvE 6 angel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 23:00:04 EST From: SWTHRT9758@aol.com Subject: Jewel's rockies Hey Angels, Jewel's show on Vh1 was great! Did anyone else notice that she sang her newer songs with a lot more feeling. I mean when she sang "Jupiter" and "Kiss the flame" I was totally surprised because I like those songs, but she sings them so much better live! Is it just me or does Jewel seem bored with her songs that she released as singles. She changes them because she gets bored singing the same exact song over and over. But she sings the songs she rarely performs beautifully. Anyone else notice? That's why the unreleased stuff is so amazing. She should release a live album with all the unreleased stuff. Oh, she also talked about the funky moves she makes when she sings without her guitar. - -Clint the composing angel- I really don't like her hair extensions, it's too much like Alanis ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Mar 1999 20:24:18 PST From: "Melissa Skingley" Subject: DSL in Canada? It would be awesome if all her CDs were like that, because like she said in that Q&A that was posted a little bit ago, what she does live is more representative of what she does... or something like that. But I'm not complaining about Spirit, or anything she recorded... Its still beautiful. Peace, cymbaline PS those hair extentions looked funky. I'd get some of my hair wasnt so out of whack. Too much dyeing does that :P ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #105 ***************************
