Concert Recorded for TV ["Fernando Monteverde C" Subject: Wake Up & Smell The Roses I just got done reading the posts about Jewel songs being played at a strip club. Although I don't necessarily support pornography or indecency, I also don't think its right to say that Jewel's music shouldn't be played in such a place. Somebody said that her music is god-like or something to that effect. Well.. That kind of comment really shows how incredibly overwhelmed we've become with Jewel. I don't subscribe to any specific religious idealogies, however, placing Jewel or her music on the level of a god is bogus. I suppose everyone is welcome to draw their own opinions about things, but I've been thinking about how we put Jewel on this pedestal. We continually ask ourselves, what happened to the 'old' Jewel. Or we say that 'fame has gotten to Jewel's head', or whatever. Well... maybe its part her, but I bet its more US. We think Jewel is some perfect masterpiece, and that shes expected to cater to our emotional needs. Common... Shes human too. I used to be the same way.. I used to think Jewel was some kind of super-natural goddess or something, but I was only fooling myself. We ask eachother why she had to change... She had to change because we (as a society) have forced her to change. I think far too many people on this list are disillusioned with Jewel. Would anybody whine if a song without words was played at the strip club, or a song from someone other than Jewel? Perhaps, but really, you'd probably only be fooling yourself about the other artist as well. Yeah, Jewel does nice things to help people, she sings good music, she writes good poetry; she 'inspires' us. I think we need to remember that she isn't a god though, she isn't even close, and she'll never be. Did anybody ever consider that maybe some song had a good 'dancin' beat to it? Or maybe it was a song that was 'sensual' or 'emotional' or whatever. Hell, thats what strip clubs are in business for. To get people all worked up so they'll pay the dancers more money. Its a free-enterprise system. I think we all need to take a big dose of reality. Direct your flames to me personally, not the list, please! Take Care! joe ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Feb 1999 08:57:28 -0500 From: MARRIOTTK@laurier.lbe.edu.on.ca (IT HAPPENS!!!) Subject: newbie... Hi everyone, I'm a newbie. Anyhow I also don't know who Steve Poltz is. Sorry if that offends anyone. I have been a fan of Jewel for a while, but only recently taken an extended interest in her. I don't have cable t.v, so I don't get to see any of the muchmusic interviews or specials with her. If anyone would like to send me some back ground info. on her it would be greatly appreciated. I'm new on this list and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a new fan of Jewel as well, and my favourite song of hers is Jupiter at the moment, or Life Uncommon or What's Simple Is True... I'm Finnish and I feel quite out of place up here because we don't have that many Jewel fans here and there's nobody to talk to about her and we get almost no material about her in magazines or TV, how awful is that? Anyway, I'll look forward to getting news and info on her through this wonderful list, and talking with people who LOVE her and her music and poetry like I do. Annika aka The water-winged Angel PS. Is there anybody else on the list who likes to sing her songs more those from any other artist? "Life is short, and it's here to be lived." There's more new content up on almost every part of Jewel's site in the past 48 hours. If you haven't stopped by lately, visit us again at www.jeweljk.com. There's new HGH info & multimedia, more news items (Go Australia Go!), more rumors addressed, journal entries, artwork, calendar info & photos! There's basically new content everywhere including the exit page! Here's other specific info related to the Jewel Store: As some of you requested, you can now simply order a JMerch catalogue online. Several people have asked about the stickers that disappeared from the site awhile back. Here's info on that. Both the HGH & Jewel stickers are once again available via the site (they're $1.50 each although that info is only on the order form.) They are high quality vinyl-type stickers, NOT paper, so they make good window decals or bumper stickers. You can view them on the JewelStore pages. Also as promised, the EDA Jewelry is now on the site. Both an Angelheart necklace & a set of pierced earings are available in sterling silver with an Amethyst setting. The new Italian sterling necklace features an Amethyst setting in a beautiful angel design. The matching set of pierced earrings, also in sterling silver, features an Amethyst stone. Both come gift boxed. A portion of the proceeds from every sale will be donated to the Jenna Druck Foundation to assist families who have experienced the loss of a child. You can view it online at the Jewel Store on the site. Over the past few years, many of you expressed interest in EDA Jewelry & that inspired the creation & design of these pieces. So for those interested in EDA jewelry as well as supporting a cause worthy of your support, I invite you to take a look at the EDA Jewelry designed with YOU in mind. I'm leaving for San Diego later this weekend & will be out of touch for awhile. I'll still be updating content on the website as I can. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you westcoasters while I'm around. I hope some of you are going to see Cindy Lee Berryhill at Twiggs in San Diego next Wednesday night. If so, say hi! I'll be that disoriented guy that looks suspiciously "East Coast". ;-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Feb 1999 16:04:26 -0600 From: Heavy Subject: NJC: A diamond in the rough???? Hello EDA's, First, I would like to thank all of the people who have helped me with my angelfood collection, j-cards, etc. (you all know who I mean) "Thank You" all very, very much. You are all truly "everyday angels". Secondly, I found an un-signed band that I believe is on their way to the top. If you have a few minutes, please stop by this web site & check out their cd. (http://www.broadcast.com/jukebox/Albums/R/RedFishBluFish_2219.stm) You can listen to the whole cd for free. They also have their own site. (http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/3944/news.html) Drop Shana an email, and tell her that "Heavy" sent ya.......They are a very talented band, and I believe you will enjoy their music. Okay parade and party afficianodos, here's the scoop on this week's 300th Mardi Gras Festival: The infamous Thomas Proven and I are leaving Pennsylvania for our Mardi Gras- bound roadtrip by dinnertime tonight. I'll spare y'all all the who, wheres, what-fors and such, and just say that I anticipate a few more stories to tell over future EDA Gathering campfires (maybe this summer at the annual Bearsville Gathering that we've held ever since the 1996 JewelStock event)... Any EDAs within reach of Naw 'Leans this Tuesday (or Sunday or Monday, for that matter) should join Tom and I at THE parade (we'll be wearing sequinned EveryDay Angel costumes with halos and colorful wing plumage). Show us something interesting and we'll throw BEJEWELED necklaces to ya! ;-) For those who were hoping to ride on the float, well, errr... we had to abandon the float this year (again). But next year, we hope to finally launch the Krewe of Polaris, Jewel of the North! The float will be a celebration of Jewel's talents and the universal brother- (and sister-) hood this list has forged over the years. We can discuss the details after we make the return leg of our trip. (serious inquiries only, please) As the non-French speaking revelers say: Let the Good Times Roll! Subject: NJC: Artists of Interest Hi everyone, I just thought of this as I was nosing around on CDNow. Of all the female artists that have been mentioned on this list, I don't think I've ever heard these two mentioned... Maria McKee and Jonatha Brooke. Jonatha Brooke used to be with a band called the Story and Maria used to be with Lone Justice, so look around for those too. Both of these artists have been around for a while and have a pretty solid following, they just haven't produced many top 40 type songs. Not because they aren't any good, they're both very prolific songwriters, but the songs just weren't written with the terms "chart-topper" or "Grammy" in mind. Anyway, I recommend checking them out. - -Greg Willms Qwest Communications IT Customer Support gregory.willms@qwest.net (614)336-5478 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Feb 1999 18:24:58 -0600 From: R A WHITE Subject: NJC Abilene EDAs (again!) hey EDAs Well, I've heard from several Texas EDAs, but none from the Abilene area (Big Country).... Hi fellow EDA's, Thanks to the people of Warner Music Belgium I was able to go to the Jewel showcase at 'Le Reservoir' in Paris last tuesday. It was my first time to see Jewel perform with a complete band... and it sure gives the songs another dimension. One of the bandmembers was Steve Poltz himself... no need to say it rocked!... To give it some extra Jewel was announced by the big boss of Atlantic Records. Here's the complete setlist: * Deep water (with band) * What Simple Is True (with band) * Hands (with band) * Hey Jupiter (with band) * Enter From The East (solo accoustic) * Foolish Games (guided by piano) * Who Will Save Your Soul ? (funny reggae version with band) * Do You (with band) * Down So Long (very heavy version with band) * You Were Meant For Me (new version with band) - -- Encores * Passing Time (new song solo accoustic) * Absence Of Fear * Chime Bells * Angel Standing By (complete silence in the audience---awesome) Afterwards Jewel took a lot of time giving out autographs and talking with the fans, proving that she is still one of the few stars that appreciate their fans. I'm already looking forward to her european tour to see the full show... I'll be there when she hits 'The Royal Albert Hall' Jorgen ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Feb 1999 20:05:08 -0200 From: Suzanne D Harrison Subject: [none] Hi, I am new to the list so I thought I'd say hello to everyone. Today, Friday she was on an hour tv-show. She was interviewed and she sang JUPITER live and only with her guitar. The interview was in Spanish, so there were a simultaneous translation that failed in the first part of the show. They introduce her showing part of here interpretation of the National Anthem for the SuperBowl. They put the last part of What's Simple Is True live in a concert the night before in Madrid. She was playing with a five members band with Steve Poltz (It looks him) on Acoustic guitar, 2 synthesisers a bass player and the drummer. It looks like a small theatre, they said that it was in the Medicine college and it was a "private concert". When they ask her if they were all doctors, she said no, they were fans. So what is a private concert? They talked about - -Barcelona (the song). Patience, disillusions and failure. - -That the last time that she was in Spain she ride a pregnant horse (=mare?). The interviewers ask her if she know that the small horse that born was called Jewel in her honour. But she think that the story is that the just born horses are like a Jewel, so it is a word game. They show a picture of her lie in a horse. - -They ask her is she takes with her a small box with some ground from her homeland, but she answered before the interviewer said what there were into the box, and said that it is just absolute false, that it's just a rumour. She sometime has carried with her things but not this. I think that she was thinking in something from the An EveryDay Angel book by Tracey West were you could read that she revealed in an interview with Alaska Center that: "I carry a Tupperware of dirt from the farm and when it starts getting too thick, I just open it and smell the earth". - -Alaska - Yodelling - -She has a Spiritual father that tell her that she have to learn to talk with her heart and that's because she started to write. Break - -Living in a van for 1 year. Surf. She have a shower in the beach. - -Innerchange. Small piece of Hands, the video. - -She try to use a yo-yo that someone from the show gave her some minutes before. - -Night Without Armour. 300000 books sold. - -If a poem comes with a melody, it's a song but if it come without music it for a book. - -She'll have a book out in 2 month. She's still writing it, usually she write at night. - -Cine. She likes how the song that she wrote for the Crossing Guard was into the film. A short clip from the Ride With The Devil film. - -It'll be out at cinemas in USA in June, and in September in Spain. - -She says that La Vida Es Bella (nominated for best film and for best film in foreigner language for the Oscars) is a Very Beautiful film. by Bellini. - -And finally she sang JUPITER along with her guitar. Gracias was her last word. MrBB, as the last time, please, as soon as you know if she recorded more things for Spanish TV, Let as know please!!.
