Of course there's a big thing now between me and my friends and a buncha EDAs i've been talking to for some time about Jewel's changing image. Someone pointed out to me that her goals have seemed to change. Granted, they probably have as it happens over time. But the thing is I still love her music and I'm still a fan. Hey guys! Yep..it's true! I met her in all her glorious, glowing flesh for the first time in my life yesterday! Jewel arrived in Stockton (U.K) as part of her regional radio tour at 3.30p.m in a huge grey coach (which stunk of stale beer and cigarette smoke much to Jewel's disgust!) She was really surprised to see my friend and I waiting with 8 red roses for her. I'm not going to go into great detail now because it would take too long. I will add a full report of the experience to my homepage over the next week or so..but basically, her tour manager invited us into the studio to watch her do the interview!! She was so sweet, down to earth and sincere..not to mention surprised as hell when I handed her my copy of STL to sign. She asked where I got it and explained to me that the people on the CD sleeve were all old friends of hers from her early touring days..I didn't know that!! She also signed my POY handbook and ANWA and written such beautiful, personal (i.e To Rachel) messag! es, including her little angel drawing....we also posed for a photo which I HOPE comes out ok!! Inside the studio, the interview in content, only lasted about 15 mins, despite the fact we were in there an hour. There were a lot of breaks and Jewel sat there in a black coat, blue trousers tucked into her walking boots(hehe) and a black beanie HAT which I thought looked so cute on her, clumsily strumming her guitar....she was playing little musical interludes of Kiss The Flame and Absence of Fear...I was so shocked when she asked me what song I would like her to play! I requested Enter From The East or KTF because I knew she would want to play something off Spirit and I thought they were the most vocally stunning...anyway she played DOwn So Long which didn't surprise me at all!!..after all it is her next single.. Her voice was so rich and pure..so beautiful...but she didn't play the whole song...she stopped at the bridge.. The interview soon ended and we left the room..we waited for Jewel outside and still clutching on to the roses I gave her..she left and thanked us...wow...what a day!!! Oh...and here is some gossip....(but I don't want to start any vicious, unfounded rumours)..I THINK Jewel was wearing an engagement ring...it was a large beautiful, sparkling cluster ring which at first I assumed was costume jewelery..then I thought..hang on this is Jewel..it has to be real??...Despite all this..I STILL didn't put 2 and 2 together and assume it was an engagement ring until my friend mentioned it later..I am sure it was on her RIGHT hand..but my friend said it was on her LEFT hand..I don't believe it WAS an engagement ring..but it was an awfully nice ring considering Jewel actually told me she was dressed 'casually'..can anyone shed any light?? ok...sorry this dragged on...it wasn't meant to.. A couple of days ago, I received a file called happy99.exe. If you have received this file, remove it from your system IMMEDEATELY. Otherwise, it attaches itself to every e-mail you send out. It doesn't register as a virus with virus scanners (I know. I scanned it with McAfee and it came up clean). You have to run the program in order to do this, and it's the only way it replicates itself. If you HAVE run it and it IS sending itself out on your e-mail, inform anyone you've sent it to of this problem. The solution is easy enough - just delete it off your hard drive. That will end the problem. My apologies to anyone I've sent this to. And may whatever gods he believes in have mercy on the person who created it. I won't. I think it was me who started this discussion a few weeks ago. Some folks said that there should be more advertisement for Jewel here in Europe. MORE? I recently went to "World of Music" in Stuttgart. The entrance was packed with Jewel-posters and addies, and there were even bigger posters close to her CDs. Not to mention the TV-commercials. There aren't that many female songwriters here in Europe, and people aren't used to them. This sort of music IS NOT and WILL NEVER BE European mainstream. Additionally, a lot of people don't have a feeling for quality-music. Look at the current Top-10-hit "Big BigWorld" by Emilia. When you hear it for the first time, you think "well, nice". My dad even asked "is that Jewel??!" But it's crap! I've never heard such a bad song...but people like it! I think this is why some EDAs are a little angry about Jewel's popularity here, they propably ask themselves, "why does somebody like Emilia make it, why doesn't Jewel?" And: why the `"? is Jewel doing so much promo in countries like Spain? Sure, she likes Spain, but, to compare it, you can't promote Mercedes-Benz-cars in Ethiopia. I have nothing angainst Spanish people, but through doing promo in Spain, Jewel is not going to sell one CD more down there.
