When I first saw Jewel, it was on an Asian music channel ( [V] ), where they played WWSYS late once. During october 1996 PoY wasn't available in Israel, and even when it was, there was no promotion. FG was the one to hit the screens here, playing once in a while on the videos strip of the cable networks, then her local publishers, Hed Artzy, put her in a few ads ("new from hed artzy:..." a long list of new cds by various artists, and at the very end: "... Jewel - Pieces of You (with the hit 'Foolish Games'"). As a result, Spirit made it thru to the charts, with Hands peaking, if I am not mistaken, at #20 on the IDFW (Galey Tzaha"l - - Israeli Defence Force Waves - the largest radio station in Israel with non-Israeli music too) top 20. I've also seen Hands on MTV Europe a few times. I think the ground is set for a Jewel concert in Israel (a small venues kind of thing), and if she visits MTV Europe or VH1 Europe during her European tour, it would do her a world of good in the field of sales. 42, Tuff - TIE - ------------------------------------------------- "He sounds like he's missing something or someone that he knows he can't have now, and if he isn't, I certainly am." - - In Liverpool/ Suzanne Vega - ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Feb 1999 07:17:03 PST From: "Steve Garner" Subject: Jewel on MuchMoreMusic Just to let everyone know, Jewel will be featured on MuchMoreMusic on the program "SpeakEasy" on Feb.10th at 10:00pm. Well, I can't tell that Jewel is famous here... I think I've heard her on the radio... hum... maybe two or three times in two years!!! I've never seen her on TV before I saw her singing for the Pope. They don't seem to promote her here in France. No advertisement, posters in stores...Too bad! Maybe they'll promote her during her European promotion tour in February ? I hope so, cause I'd like French people to discover her beautiful words and voice. Click on "Spirit" in the discography section, and you'll see the first sentence of my review below the main article. Click on "read more..." and you can see the rest of my review. I think the main reason for it is that other kinds of music are in style there. Jewel's music is very soft, and her lyrics very beutiful. Though many people in Europe now know how to speak English, they are not intrested in Jewel because of the kind of music she uses. Lastly there is a serious lack of promotion and media around Jewel... so she never really got a chance. I have let some of my friends listen to her (okay, ALL of my friends) and they do like her. The only problem is- you can't find her album... take care Jewel's Angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Feb 1999 17:06:34 EST From: SMSU2003@aol.com Subject: Jewel on Fashion TV (VH1) VH1's Fashion Television did something on Jewel today. Personally, I thought that they did a good job interviewing her, better than EW, and Jewel's boyfriend looked more down to earth in Vogue, more of the type of guy I could see Jewel going out with, than that picture in EW as well. And as for that cover, oh!!! Also, when she was on Conan on the 19, it was good to hear her sing another song live apart from "Hands". Don't get me wrong, I think hands is great, but when you have heard it on Letterman, Leno, Rosie, SNL, etc., you would like her to perform something else Take care Alex, the "Scottish Angel" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Feb 1999 19:03:23 EST From: STAC5984@aol.com Subject: Much Music Could someone clear up for me what ecactly aired on Much Music Sunday night?
