Moon Over Austin/Hotel Angel Dance Between Two Women A Boy Needs A Bike (well, bits of it) Satellite, Last Dance Rodeo Carnivore Deep Water (acoustic version) Emily (okay so it's not exclusively angelfood, I love it) I'd also like to mention a few that are NOT among my favorites... anything she did with Edwin Love Is A Rose w/Steve Poltz Cold Song Daddy She's A Goddess (this is ILL if you can make out the words) Have A Little Faith In Me If you're looking for something markedly different from the Jewel you probably know, check out Race Car Driver (you may be slightly shocked) My Own Private God's Gift To Women (you may be violently shocked^_^) Oh yeah, there's one other song I really like the sound of but I forget the title and I also don't like her use of the word "whore" in it... but yeah, peace. | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Dec 1998 15:31:54 EST From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: NJC: Some ideas for spreading holiday cheer (from the EDAF) Hello! The holidays are a really great time to show off your halos a little! For those so inclined, here are a few simple suggestions you can do that will make someone else's holiday a little more special... 1. If you want to give a really special gift to someone but can't afford much, why not give them a card with a "voucher" committing to do 4 (or more) hours of volunteer work at a charity of the recipient's choice during the month of January. 2. A lot of malls have a Salvation Army tree which has the names and ages of children in need on it. You can take one of these "angel" cards and buy that child a gift and return it to the Salvation Army table. Just imagine what that would mean to a child who won't be getting much from Santa! There are many similar programs run by other groups as well (my local Barnes & Noble has one, where you buy a book for a child - also a great thing). Toys for Tots is another one. 3. A lot of you lucky people will probably get new video game systems or even computers this year for Christmas. Wouldn't it be great to donate your old system to a school, library, or after-school program? Also, don't forget to recycle as much of the wrapping materials as possible; and donate extra food or any old coats you may have! Please send other ideas you have that can help spread holiday cheer to edaf@smoe.org! Happy Holidays Angels! It's accompanied by a full page colour picture of Jewel - it's the one where she's wearing a tiara and with 'tears' on her cheeks. - ------------------------------------------------- BABY MADONNA Jewel: raised by wolves in igloos. Maybe 'People were trying to consume me without even knowing what I tasted like,' says singer Jewel Kilcher of the first flush of her stardom, 'and that made me feel funny.' Glacier mint? Chocolate sundae? Peach? Many hours have been wasted by people attempting to pin down her precise flavour. Now she's about to break into movies - in A Ride With The Devil, helmed by Ice Storm director Ang Lee, no less - a manoeuvre which ought to help readjust the off-kilter accounts of her existence which followed the multimillion-selling success of her first record, Pieces Of You. Jewel wrote and recorded that album in her teens, then told the world about her ancestry (Swiss), her childhood (in an enclosed Alaskan Mormon community), her hard times (she slept in a van while trying to make it) and her sizable celebrity (she dated Sean Penn, who described her as the most important songwriter since Bob Dylan). 'It was mind-boggling,' she says now of her portrayal. 'I'm not a freak to me. I was raised where I was raised and I took it that people liked me, I swear, but to the States I looked like some freaky thing raised by wolves. In igloos.' Now, she's got a new album - Spirit, where her country-folk hybrid is bulked by Madonna producer Patrick Leonard and her voice soars and swirls like Joni Mitchell's did - another tour, and of course that movie, which opens in the US in June. 'I toured for four years, then did it again, and I was so burned out I just needed a change,' she says of her decision to do A Ride With The Devil. 'It was a complete change of pace and a huge challenge - horrifying, and very gratifying.' But she's never been easily scared. 'For some things,' she says, 'I'm pretty fearless. I used to get really sick all the time, but I could go on stage in front of 30,000 people, before the Ramones, and go, "Fuck you, listen".'
