Did anyone check out the review on Jewel's album at http://www.expressnews.com/pantheon/salife-ent/music/0910gjk2.shtml I don't know, but I disagree...I think it's a great album. Well I gotsta to head out to work...have a great day, Jay ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Dec 1998 11:59:05 EST From: Freakbus6@aol.com Subject: Rolling Stone too friendly I wanted to give me take on the interview on the Rolling Stone. She of course gave a great interview, and the guy did a good interview, but the problem i had was that guy kinda got on my nerves, i was reading ahead to see when he would ask Jewel if she would marry him, he was pretty much flirting with her, and trying to slip her a dimond ring the whole time. we that was just my 2 cents, let me know what you think George of the Jungle The Ska Punk Angel JungleBat ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Dec 1998 12:38:11 -0500 From: Bevan Bielza Subject: Re: 3 questions (please read) Shaun... She used to play a Ferringon, but that's retired now. Currently she plays two models of Taylor guitars. I believe a 912C small body for alternate tunings and a 500 series one for standard tunings. If you have $4,000 - $5,000 to blow on these wonderful guitars (brazilian rosewood, gold-plated tuning keys, purely handcrafted), i say go for it...but these guitars are purely high end. As far as strings, those you can probably afford with no effort. Jewel plays D'Addario EJ-16 Extra Lite metal acoustic strings...Stick the to Yahama, because Taylors are just too damn expensive... Early '95 was a Golden Age, no one new much about Jewel at all, and news would come in every couple of weeks (and even in '96 the digest were tiiiiny!). It was very small and very focussed. Sometimes I miss that, but I always wanted Jewel to be more well known than when she was then, do to well; to do good and to spread her message and show her talent to the world. It was nice and friendly and truly (and I've been on the 'net nigh on 15 years now) the best place to be on the 'Net. Really! And who made it that way? Well, not Jewel, she was never here, we didn't know her (though it was _much_ easier to say "hi" back then), and this was pre-JewelStock, not Mike or Alan, cuz well, Alan wasn't _here_ yet ... it was everyone, together. As far as I know or can verify everything Mike and Alan have said has been true. No one on either of the Jewel lists has ever been paid for anything. JeffW who provides the hardware and software to run this list, well there have been fund raisers from the EDA side, but from the artist side, nada. Mike nope, the news guys nope. > However, also the "no bootleg" and "no MP3" policies are also in effect > because of our (the lists') relationship with the J-team. And I'd like to point out that's likely one of the reasons the Angelfood flows so freely. If for no other reason than your own vested interest... I'd already heard Spirit, and so could see the points of both critics and fans of this particular item produced by our common source of joy. While I am very fond of this CD, IMHO it is less Jewel and more Jewel's vocal ability then is PoY. That, however is not the subject of this post. I've seen a very grievous phenomenon arising from this matter. People sounding their opinions were answered very harshly on the list, and I have no doubt, off it as well. As Voltaire said, "I disagree completely with your opinions, but I will fight to the death for your right to express them", so I feel now that I must do. When a post comes up that I feel I disagree with, I take my time before answering. First I ask myself: "Is this really worth the trouble of answering?", if so then "Is there any reason why I shouldn't do this privately, rather then through the whole list?" and in any case "How can I convince the other guy that I may have a point?" (I'll give you a hint -- saying that the other guy's a jerk won't do the trick). Then I compose it, and read it, and reread it, and sit on it for a while. Remember, no matter how wrong the other guy is (like, he could be blaming Mike Connell or MrBB of something, etc, or maybe he's badmouthing Jewel, or even flaming on the list), it's no excuse to put him down on the list. Now, this is not true for any old fan club, but this list is not just about Jewel, it's also about the EDAs, and putting people down is not a very angelic thing to do. Now to a completly different matter. There's one guy you may want to look out for. He's a centre figure to this list, and to this community, and as ancient to it as Mike Connell and Alan Bershaw (MrBB). He was even acknowledged by JEWEL at JEWELSTOCK. His name is Dennis Harris, and his addy's Harrisbros@aol.com (listen for that "goddamn ya Harris Bros..." on your JSCs). I won't tell you the whole history of the Harris Clan, or the Harris crime family, as some have refered to it - Dennis could do that far better then I. I will, however, ask you to be attentive to him. His advice, such as: > NJC: The Harris "Sit On It" Rule... [Harrisbros@aol.com] > Maybe We Need to Expect More of Ourselves... [Harrisbros@aol.com] often come from hard earned experience on (and off) the list. Well, this post's already so long I'm not sure it'll be allowed into one digest, so I'll let you get back to your reading. I was hoping we could do a Jewel poem, because this multiple is going to go all the way and it would be really cool if we could go there with a poem by Jewel. Does anyone know of any? I am hoping for it to be humorous, but if it isn't that's ok, but it will have a better chance of being used if it is humorous. //\//\att //\dler The "Thespian" Angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Dec 1998 22:59:17 EST From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB- Some Questions answered Hi all, Here's some answers to various questions of late: 1) Is the double album version of "Spirit" available & does it differ from the CD? The limited edition vinyl version of "Spirit" is definitely available. It's a two record set, but does not differ from the CD. It's actually quite nice if you enjoy cranking up a turntable once in a while. (For the few die-hard vinyl collectors out there, you'll like it. It's an immaculate pressing & sounds wonderful. Since theres only 3 or 4 songs per side, the grooves are nice & wide & provide great audio.) The cover is the same as the CD, but with a larger cover photo bordered in white. The back cover is different than the CD but contains the same info. It comes in a wide sleeve that holds both records as well as a full size insert that has a photo of Jewel & the credits on one side & the lyric transcriptions on the other. You should be able to order it from any CD store that is willing to order vinyl. I see it around for anywhere between $10 to $20 US dollars. I don't know about international availabilty. 2) How can I get a Higher Ground/Jewel Merchandise catalogue? Easy! Between the hours of 9:30am to 5:30PM PST, EDAs in the USA can request one toll free by calling 1-877-295-3935. Once there follow the prompts to "JMerch" & then to "request a catalogue". Very nice people will take your request & mail you one. All others can see & order via the website & yes, they accept International orders with additional shipping charges applicable. 3) In the catalogue, theres an InnerChange T-shirt now. What is this & what does it say on it? Quite a few asked me this, since the graphic in the catalogue is a bit small to read clearly. This is actually my favorite Jewel t-shirt & has really nice artwork on it in vivid colors. This shirt was designed for & originally sold at the two InnerChange gigs in July of 1994 that were recorded for the "Pieces Of You" album. (All the solo acoustic tracks come from these two gigs.) The design is a dark purple coffee cup with Jewel rising out with angel wings & the moon behind her on a lighter purple background. Underneath it reads: JEWEL KILCHER Live at the INNER CHANGE COFFEE HOUSE PACIFIC BEACH, CA JULY 28 & 29 1994 The printing quality is wonderful on these & they're made of environmentally friendy materials (100% Organically grown cotton). They're $20. You can get these at the website as well as calling the # mentioned above. Which naturally leads to Q #4: 4) When is the redesigned www.jeweljk.com website going to be unvieled? We're real close on this! The final touches of "phase one" are almost ready. It'll likely be in a few days & I'll try to give you 24 hours notice on that. We have lots of great plans for this website & some may include you! Have a good night, MrBB ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #706 ***************************
