I haven't had this much fun reading posts on this list for a long time... and last time I did I joined in... and my last post on some subject was a long ago I think... so what do I wanna say... uh yeah... SHAWN you're a savior!! :)) I certainly do not agree with you 100% but just as I was thinking about that stuff and smiling about it I started reading your post... well I agree that she has all that "bitch" (by Meredith Brooks) thing going on and honestly I "wouldn't want it any other way!!!" I actually support her for how she reacted... I mean true she "has" to give godzillion interviews, but hey do all the interviewers have to be complete dumb-bolts... like: I would get sick of asking "So you were raised in Alaska, right?" C'mon!!! HELLO!?!?!? Is it really necessary... how about saying... something like "Jewel I'm sure by now everybody knows that you were raised in Alaska, and all that no TV, no running water and outdoor toilet... and it doesn't sound that great... but do you miss it... or like what do you miss the most about that?" Do you think it would kill the interviewer to give the most common facts within the question and try to get something else out of it... that way even those who know absolutely nothing about Jewel, remain happy!!! And I honestly can't blame Jewel for stepping a bit higher in such situations, for I take her as quite intelligent person and I think you shouldn't demote yourself to fit the needs of others... and I think she does just that, she can stand up for herself... and since she can - so she does... and she uses the not so obvious sides of her (especially if you consider what people think of her knowing just both albums... or sadly only Spirit) to do it - that finds people off guard so she's successful... and I just love it. That's what she is... she is your everyday person and then again not... she has this enormous talent for what seems like everything she sets her mind to... now sometimes her decisions may not be something we like, or something I like - but those ARE HER decisions to make and we should respect them... I know I do... true I don't know her... but i have respect for everybody - no matter whether I like them or not... until I am convinced otherwise... So no matter how much I like Spirit... I like POY even better... and I'm sure that this wouldn't be the case if her second album would have songs like Carnivore, Race Car Driver, Nicotine Love, GGTW, SIBTW, Housewife's Revenge, Jessica etc... I would as much as worship that album... cause I feel songs like those, show more sides of Jewel than first meets the eye... and I think she would get much more respect with those critics who spit all over her... but hey if none of those songs were used, that still doesn't mean there's no way of making a kickass album with others... the only mistake I think is this theme... cause it takes away variety, that even POY had a fair share of... I don't put any blame on production - I like most of it! BUT I STRAYED!!! And Jewel realizes she is good because she's OK with herself and thus she has power, and she may raise above anybody to protect or prove that, if she feels necessary... but no way would I say that she sees herself better than most of the population...
