I would be glad, if someone could answer me the following questions: 1.) This one is to the EDA's from Germany. Has the Hands single been released in Germany? I check all stores I could, no single, they could not even order it. If any German bought it, please e-mail me. 2.) So the Rolling Stone interview is nice. Sadly we do have our own german issue of the mag, produced for the german market. (for your interest, Spirit got three stars out of five in the current issue) I guess the UK has an own issue too. So I ask you americans, can anyone send me the december issue (I would pay the costs of the issue and the shipping costs)? OK, have a nice day, Christian. We had over twice the expected number of entries.....213 total !! After the judges/panelists read them all over the weekend (downed ten gallons of coffee each, in the process), and sent in their votes, we ended up with the list of "winners". We actually ended up with a "top 12" instead of a "top 10", as we had a seven way tie for the last five spots. The 12 "winning" entries were sent on to MrBB/Alan and all is now in the hands of the J-team. Before I post the winning names and entries on this list, I will be waiting for permission from each of the 12 "winners", whom I wrote each separately informing them that their entry was chosen. Once I hear back from all of them, I shall post names and/or entries accordingly :-) Also, I'd like to send a "thank you" to all 213 who sent in entries, and a HUGE thank you to the judges/panelists who slaved over the entries last weekend. Maybe she's the Girl Next Door, maybe she's a pompous bitch; regardless, she's an amazing, multi-talented individual. The voice of an angel, and a poet/songwriter in Dylan's class. Her personality won't change that. Considering the chances of my spending some quality time with Jewel are rather slim I'll forgo speculation on her personality. As long as she keeps creating her art I'll be happy, whatever medium she chooses. Don't Leave Yer Hat On The Bed, Wizard The Angelheaded Hipster "Love flowers best in openness and freedom." "He's thinking, >'Whata bitch!' " I was not really surprised to read this myself. All of you angels who are skeptical about this, go and read a normal interview and you will see all the false things. These people who do the interview do no or very little research, forget things, and then act like smart-asses. That interview was just stupid stereotype. There are, I am sure, celebrities that do do that, but I don not believe Jewel would do such a thing. It comes as a shock to us, but we must trust. We know Jewel better than those reporters and we know Jewel is not like that. One nasty article that screams "I had nothing else to write so I'll come up with a article that I think is a fairly good shot!" is foolish. It sounds like something my anti- Jewel mother would write, after looking at Jewel once, and deciding what kind of person she was. We know better. Subject: Kilcher family store, and Snyder show As has been said before, and was announced last night on the show, Jewel is *scheduled* to be on the Tom Snyder show tonight. With the death of her grandfather, Yule, just occuring the night before last, I was wondering if this would have an impact on tonight's show...either that Jewel won't be on now, because of the highly emotional time, or that Tom will ask her about this occurence, since to me, it would be hard not to mention, I mean, if Tom has any clue about it at all. One more thing...for those of you who don't have it yet, I highly suggest purchasing the Pioneering VHS tape that's for sale on the official Kilcher family webpage...this isn't the same as Jewel's official site, but it IS her relatives. There's a tape for sale on that site, that covers the interesting history of the Kilcher family, mainly Yule, how he came to the US, built the homestead, raised the family, and survival in general. Aside from the great pictures, and wonderful scenery of Alaska, it gives some great insight as to how Jewel lived in her childhood. And there ARE a couple of segments where you can see Jewel playing when she was a child...very cool thing to see. Plus, this would be a great thing to have, now that Yule has passed away...in rememberence of him, and his hard work to build and maintain the Kilcher family homestead. I believe it's about $19.95, or around that, and is approx. 30-40 min. long. I think it's worth the money, and you'd be helping out the family as well. Short summary of its content? Here it is: "a beautiful voice" but "little-girl-poetry", "not as good as an Alannis Morissette b-side". How can anybody compare Jewel to Alanis! They're way different, both have their own style, I think. Kilcher, 85, died at a hospital in Homer, Alaska, the seaside town where he had lived since 1940, the Alaska Public Radio Network and Anchorage television station KTUU reported. No cause of death was reported. Kilcher immigrated to Alaska from Switzerland and established a homestead in Homer. In addition to serving as a delegate to the convention that wrote the state constitution in the 1950s, he represented Homer for several years in the state legislature. Several Kilcher family members are professional folk musicians well known in Alaska. Jewel Kilcher is the first family member to win national acclaim for her music. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Dec 1998 16:58:11 PST From: "Tiger Moon" Subject: SJC- Christmas Eve concert, just some thoughts. "12/24 Christmas Eve Broadcast from Rome. Jewel will be included singing "Hands" & a Christmas song with a 100 piece orchestra & a 40 member choir. Taped in Vatican City & broadcast throughout Europe on Christmas eve. Check local listings." This should be quite an event, I hope we get to see it here in the US. I was just thinking how ironic that she should be singing on such a special night like this, in the city of "Spirit", a song from her own "Spirit". Vatican City will be a nexus of "Spirit" that night. I've heard that Vatican City is very beautiful. There are treasures from all over the world there. Priceless paintings, artwork, scrolls and books. What I wouldn't give to spend a month in the Vatican library. All that glitters and sparkles, all that fills the mind and heart with wisdom and spirit, concentrated in one place of "Spirit". And just think, on the night we dedicate to the birth of the greatest "Spirit", a very special "Jewel" will be sparkling and shining there. I wonder as she stands there if she will feel the spirit of all those bright "jewels", those shining spirits that came before her. The nexus has seen some of the greatest Jewels in history or at least played a major role in their lives and fates. Jewels like Mary Magdalene, Joan of Arc and Sister Lucia of Fatima fame. These names we all know but what of the thousands upon thousands of little jewels that have sparkled and shone there? Those little jewels of "Spirit" which have passed through that very same nexus, un-named, forgotten yet who have left their mark on all our spirits none the less. I wonder if she will feel the spirit of all those "Lives Uncommon". Will she sing to them the "sounds of freedom"? Many Catholics believe that the spirit of our "Lady" is present on this holiest of nights. That she listens to the prayers and sees into the hearts of all the little jewels of spirit gathered there. I think she will be pleased to see a very special little Jewel that night, sparkling and shining bright. A "Jewel Uncommon". Mary Christmas Jewel and all you little jewels of spirit. Live your lives uncommon, and always sing the sounds of freedom. "A Night Without Armor" - -Paul Calder Seems selling 10 mil copies of her debut album, Pieces of You, isn't enough for this songstress. A Night Without Armor, a collection of Jewel's poems reveals a sparkling literary gem who strikes a chord beyond musical notes. As a 16-year-old, Jewel Kilcher began scribbling her thoughts into verse - but don't any expect icky odes to puppy love. Instead, the 24-year-old betrays a world-weariness far beyond her years. In a whopping 109 poems, Jewel chips down to the raw truth chronicling her adolescence and Alaskan upbringing. These candid elegies tackle thorny issues of masculinity ("The father tries to bond with his son by ogling my breasts"), war ("My dad went to the Vietnam when he was 19 years old. I think it bruised his soul") and puberty ("I look at the young girls now in their tight crushed velour... and I think I've been there"). For your listening pleasure, Jewel reads her poems in this audio edition. But he warned: the automated voice announcing MRT [note: our subway] stops has more resonance and timbre than this flaxen-hairdo warbler. Clocking in at 79 minutes, her delivery becomes a monotonous drone that distracts from the poignancy of her poems. But Jewel doesn't need anyone to save her soul... or market her book, This collection has sold almost 250,000 copies in the US alone, proving the publisher's gamble on her literary ability was no foolish game. - -Jeanette - -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- I wish the real world, would just stop hassling me.
