Today's Subjects: ----------------- "Write Jewel's next video" Project: more information :-) [Mike Connell <] Re: What hands means to you? [W1GGY2@aol.com] More on Jewels Aussie Tour!! (sorry to non australians) [Jason Corney Subject: "Write Jewel's next video" Project: more information :-) Hi folks :-) Well, I'm sure more than a few of you are excited about this project :-) (for those of you who missed Alan's post announcing the "You may be writing Jewel's next video!" project, the crux of it is included below after my last instructions) First of all, to answer a question that has come in more than once. ALL posts from me and/or Alan about this project will go to each subscriber to the regular Jewel list, the Jewel-digest list and the Jewel-news list. You won't miss out on a thing. (Jewel-digest subscribers will get individual posts, as well as the same info in the next coming digest) Before I begin, I want to make sure everyone understands that Alan relayed this project idea to me very in the afternoon, and we did not have much time at all to plan out the beginning stages of this, and we certainly do not have much time to execute this project. So, if anyone thinks something might not be fair, or that there's not enough time, or whatever, please remember we had to plan this all very quickly. Participation is totally voluntary, and time parameters cannot be changed. We must have the final ten ideas/storylines to Jewel and Lenedra by Wednesday December 9th, and that is not much time at all, nor leaves any time for complaining. OK....on to business....this post deals with the first stage of the project....getting seven judges in place for the storylines that are submitted. Please, please, please do NOT send in ANY *storylines* or ideas yet....instructions on that will be posted Tuesday evening (December 1st), Eastern USA time. All I want tonight is for people who want to be a judge in this project to please email me per the instructions I supply below. Please note, if you want to be a judge, you will have to be willing to and promise to dedicate a fair amount of time to this project. How much time I'm not certain, as I don't know how many storylines will be submitted. Also, as I know some of you are wondering....anyone chosen as a judge is ALSO eligible to submit a storyline. This is the basic outline of the project time line: 1) Prospective judges apply 2) Judges chosen (explanation on how judges will be chosen is below) 3) Storylines submitted (when/after the instructions are posted) 4) Judges begin reading/rating submitted storylines 5) Deadline to submit storylines arrives (deadline will be announced later) 6) Judges continue to read/rate storylines 7) Judges send in votes (per instructions given later in the week) 8) Top ten vote getters are sent in to Jewel and Lenedra OK....if you want to be considered as a judges, this is what you have to do..... Send me an email with the word JUDGE in the *subject* of the email. In the body of the email, I need your *full name* and anything you want to say to make your plea to be chosen as a judge. In addition, if you have another email address you'd also like any project emails sent to (if chosen as a judge), please include that information in the "judge" reply. As I said, I'll choose seven judges. Two or three (maybe four) will be chosen totally at random. (to give newer folks, lurkers etc a good chance at being chosen) Four or five will be chosen based on whatever I feel makes me think they may be best suited for the job, be it what they write in the "judge" reply, my previous experiences with them either via emails, instant messages, previous list projects...whatever. My goal is to choose all seven by midnight tomorrow, but I would not be surprised if it took until Wednesday. Please remember, we chose this method/plan due to time restrictions....we don't have much time to do this. So, judge applicants, please send me an email now, and all who wish to submit a storyline for Jewel's next video (Down So Long), please wait for instructions on how to do so, which will posted sometime Tuesday evening, eastern USA time. Mike :-) The crux of Alan's post (what this is all about), and the lyrics to Down So Long: >Hello all EDAs, > > Here's something that will interest most of you >creative people out there. Lenedra & I were talking >about Jewel's next video, which will be for the song >"Down So Long". We thought it would be fun to see if there's >interest in having EDAs create the video concept/story line. > > I liked this idea & thought some (many?) of you might >jump at the opportunity to try this. However, heres the deal: >I obviously do not have the time to read hundreds of story lines >nor can I "judge" the entries. So here's my suggestion.: >Your list manager Mike will set up the EDA-Project list so >that you all can submit your entries. Selected EDA judges will >then decide on the ten best ideas to give me, by the middle of >next week (Wednesday). > > IMPORTANT!!!! DO NOT SEND YOUR IDEAS TO ME OR YOU WILL BE >WASTING ALL YOUR GOOD CREATIVE ENERGY!! All ideas sent >here directly cannot be considered!! Wait, read your list mail >& follow Mike's forthcoming instructions! > > So here's what to do now. NOTHING other than listen to the >song "Down So Long" & THINK! Begin writing your video ideas >down clearly. When your list moderator Mike, soon posts that >submitted ideas are being taken on the EDA Project list, THEN >send them in according to his instructions. The 10 best >will be given to me next Wednesday & I will give them to >Jewel & Lenedra for consideration. Please just wait & follow >Mike's instructions carefully. Do not give him grief. We're all >working with timing parameters & doing our best to give the >most people this opportunity. > >I'm not sure what the winner will get other than prestige >& the honor of seeing their idea possibly executed. But I >can promise a pair of good tickets to the 1999 Jewel >concert of the winners choice & probably arrange a meeting >with us & Jewel so we can tell you in person how much we >love your idea! [snip} >OK, go listen to the song & start creating! I hope many >of you enjoy trying this & we'll likely find some incredibly >talented future video directors out there! > >Play nice & go for it! :-) Alan (MrBB) lyrics taken directly from Spirit's liner notes: Been Down So Long by Jewel Kilcher Sun sets 'cross the ocean I'm a thousand miles from anywhere My pocketbook and my heart both just got stolen And the sun act like she don't even care The wind blows cold when you reach the top It feels like someone's face is stuck to the bottom of my shoe I got a plastic Jesus, a cordless telephone for every corner of my room Got everybody but you telling me what to do But I've been down so long Ooh, it can't be longer still I've been down for so long That the end must be drawing near I look to everybody but me to answer my prayers 'Til I saw an angel in the bathroom who said she saw no one worth saving anywhere And a blind man on the corner said it's simple, like flipping a coin Don't matter what side it lands on if it's someone else's dime But I've been down so long Ooh, it can't be longer still We've been down for so long That the end must be drawing near I take a trip, I catch a train, I catch a plane I got a ticket in my hand And then a man takes my money And like cattle we all stand But we've been down so long Ooh, it can't be longer still We've been down for so long The end must be... I know the end must be... Oh, I know the end must be drawing near Bridge repeat / scat section ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 20:35:14 EST From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: Re: What hands means to you? In a message dated 11/30/98 Melisa Woo writes: >Everyone has been concentrating on the music that goes with Jewel's new > >album but no one is talking about her words and messages in those songs. > Hi, everyone, I just rejoined the list after a LONG absence. For those that don't know me, I'm the girl who asked the 2nd question on the recent MTV show. I'm also on the Board of the EveryDay Angels Foundation. I just wanted to underline, emphasize, agree with, and basically just restate what Melissa says above. If you really think about the words on this album, you will learn a lot about the world - what it is and what it could be. You'll also surely see that the only way it will ever change is if we change it. Although I haven't been reading the list of late, I am pretty sure what a lot of the conversation has been about - what Jewel's wearing; wasn't her miniskirt too short; wasn't that a great/horrible picture of her in such and such magazine; etc. That's all fine and part of the reason we joined the list, I'm sure. But the other part of the reason is that Jewel touched each of us in some way (and all you perverts can just shut up!! Heehee :-) I just want to urge everyone to remember why Jewel became important enough to you to join this list and start thinking more about what she's saying than what she's wearing. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! Amy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 01 Dec 1998 12:37:08 +1100 From: Jason Corney Subject: More on Jewels Aussie Tour!! (sorry to non australians) >Hi again!! >I finally found out all the info available for the upcoming tour!!! >Michael Coppel is the Promoter (www.coppel.com.au) and if you want to read >all the promo stuff on Jewel the address to that page is: >http://www.coppel.com.au/mcp/mcp_rel/jewel.html > [All the tour dates are snipped] Tasmania not included I know this is very self centred but there is atleast one other Tassie EDA so I can feel a little bit better about it but once again another top line act doesn't come to my humble little island. I'm under no illusion who sets the tour schedule (Coppel hasn't sent a tour for a stop in tassie for longer than I can remember) but the normal excuses (no venue large enough) don't count as it looks like a theatre tour anyway and we have the BEST theatre ever (modesty isn't a strong point). Anyway even if she doesn't do a show here I hope she can get to see tassie at some stage, some of the scenery here can blow your mind. EDA's I was just wondering if any one else tried to get tickets to see Open Mike with Mike Bullard with Jewel as the guest this Thursday. I tried the Internet site, but did not receive my confirmation, so instead I called the toll free number 1-888-394-MIKE just about half an hour ago, and a person actually answered (usually it's an answering machine), and I was able to get a ticket for the Thursday taping. I just wanted to know if I was going to be able to meet someone out there, right now I'm on my own. later Wojtek Kowalewski Ryerson Polytechnic University Toronto, Canada ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #671 ***************************
