Andy The Jeweled Angel ------------------------------ Date: 29 Nov 98 23:44:52 MST From: Jonathan Knapp Subject: NJC: Willing to be an Angel Standing By Dear all EDA's, Just recently I have been asked to help out a friend in a time of need and it occured to me that there are a lot of people out there that need a special Angel with them always. Please, I want all of you to understand that I am willing to be your Angel Standing By, not because I have to, but because I choose to, I want to cheer you people up when you want to be cheered up or if you just need someone to talk to because you are depressed, I want you all to know that I will be there for all of you, no matter what. You know, I live in Colorado, I am sure that some of you know that by now. You guys and gals are all very special to me just because you care for Jewel just as much I do, and if you can understand that, then I care for you, please, if anybody needs a friend, let me be your Angel. Dear EDAs, Everyone has been concentrating on the music that goes with Jewel's new album but no one is talking about her words and messages in those songs. Hands is a great song, and I too like the verse "not to worry because worry is wasteful and useless..." it is true but also hard to remember especially when things are going crazy in your life. Well, there's more to what the song makes me feel and think but it's late, maybe later... mel:) "...horrified the answer may be beyond the capability of my own two hands so small (no one should feel this alone)"--Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 16:55:14 EST From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB-You may be writing Jewel's next video! Hello all EDAs, Here's something that will interest most of you creative people out there. Lenedra & I were talking about Jewel's next video, which will be for the song "Down So Long". We thought it would be fun to see if there's interest in having EDAs create the video concept/story line. I liked this idea & thought some (many?) of you might jump at the opportunity to try this. However, heres the deal: I obviously do not have the time to read hundreds of story lines nor can I "judge" the entries. So here's my suggestion.: Your list manager Mike will set up the EDA-Project list so that you all can submit your entries. Selected EDA judges will then decide on the ten best ideas to give me, by the middle of next week (Wednesday). IMPORTANT!!!! DO NOT SEND YOUR IDEAS TO ME OR YOU WILL BE WASTING ALL YOUR GOOD CREATIVE ENERGY!! All ideas sent here directly cannot be considered!! Wait, read your list mail & follow Mike's forthcoming instructions! So here's what to do now. NOTHING other than listen to the song "Down So Long" & THINK! Begin writing your video ideas down clearly. When your list moderator Mike, soon posts that submitted ideas are being taken on the EDA Project list, THEN send them in according to his instructions. The 10 best will be given to me next Wednesday & I will give them to Jewel & Lenedra for consideration. Please just wait & follow Mike's instructions carefully. Do not give him grief. We're all working with timing parameters & doing our best to give the most people this opportunity. I'm not sure what the winner will get other than prestige & the honor of seeing their idea possibly executed. But I can promise a pair of good tickets to the 1999 Jewel concert of the winners choice & probably arrange a meeting with us & Jewel so we can tell you in person how much we love your idea! If we end up liking more than one idea (or parts of the 10 selected ideas,) we'll set up the above for more than one of you. This is open to any EDA anywhere, but I must have the 10 finalists' entries by next Wednesday. Jewel will be touring almost everywhere in 1999 & we should be able to accommodate tickets regardless of where you live, other than parts of South America, Russia & Antarctica. That shouldn't disqualify too many for accessible tickets & of course EDAs in those areas are still welcome to try. I'll do my best to work out something else if no show is within your country. I know from experience, some of you will have a problem with this idea. Before you get bent out of shape for whatever reason, let me say that anyone who doesn't like this idea is very welcome to NOT participate. This is open to anyone who feels comfortable with it & we wish you nothing but fun & hope to read some great ideas! Since my main computer is still down, I haven't the lyrics handy, but Mike will include them in his instructional post later tonight. Watch for it! It'll have all the additional information you may need. :-) ** NOTE FROM MIKE: The lyrics are below :-) OK, go listen to the song & start creating! I hope many of you enjoy trying this & we'll likely find some incredibly talented future video directors out there! Play nice & go for it! :-) Alan (MrBB) Been Down So Long by Jewel Kilcher Sun sets 'cross the ocean I'm a thousand miles from anywhere My pocketbook and my heart both just got stolen And the sun act like she don't even care The wind blows cold when you reach the top It feels like someone's face is stuck to the bottom of my shoe I got a plastic Jesus, a cordless telephone for every corner of my room Got everybody but you telling me what to do But I've been down so long Ooh, it can't be longer still I've been down for so long That the end must be drawing near I look to everybody but me to answer my prayers 'Til I saw an angel in the bathroom who said she saw no one worth saving anywhere And a blind man on the corner said it's simple, like flipping a coin Don't matter what side it lands on if it's someone else's dime But I've been down so long Ooh, it can't be longer still We've been down for so long That the end must be drawing near I take a trip, I catch a train, I catch a plane I got a ticket in my hand And then a man takes my money And like cattle we all stand But we've been down so long Ooh, it can't be longer still We've been down for so long The end must be... Subject: Spirit on vinyl This past weekend, I found a store in Houston that had the double vinyl of Spirit. It IS 2 records, unlike what another EDA said last week. BUT, there are *no* extra tracks. :-( And with a price of $16.99, I didn't think it was even worth buying. Not artwork either. Just the same picture of Jewel on the cover, not even any larger than the CD cover size either. Pretty simple packaging. It doesn't fold out or anything. There's just 2 records in one slot on the side. Like 3 or 4 songs per side I think. I have found some reviews and articles in some dutch magazines. The first one is a little bit outdated, it was in the "veronica" tv guide from about two weeks ago. A somewhat boring interview but with a nice pic. Maybe someone you know has it in the old paper box or something. The other one is pretty up to date ( I saw it in the store today). It's a good interview with her (two pages) in the magazine "samsonic" Very nice pic's in there. There was also a review of Spirit in a magazine called "revu", but I don't know exactly what issue, I think is must be november or october. Well that's is, I hope we get to see her on dutch/european tv soon, because I didn't even see the video yet. Hey EDA's. I was just going over my latest Jewel-digests, and though I haven't the time for this-I decided what I saw, and what I have to say about it are too important to not do, so I hope you will give me tht same respect, and bother yourselves to read and think about this letter. Lately, it seems that all we ever do on the list is fight. Someone dislikes spirit, so we hate them. Someone likes Mariah better, so we hate them. If someone says something we don't approve of, the response is a massive mail-attack anti that person and his views, and that can really really hurt. We call ourselves everyday angels, but we do not take the time to act as such. We can't insult people, and hurt their feelings like that-and don't say we haven't because we have, and still think of ourselves as good EDA's. That's hypocrisy. (sp?...) The reason I say "we" though i am sure not EVERY SINGLE person on the liost has insulted another, is because I think this is about us, as a group. This is a pattern we have as a group, and as a group we need to change it. Thank you all for baring with me, and taking the time to listen. Loads of Love, Abby A rare angel lost among you {\o/} /_\ ~*~Dance like no one is watching and love like you've never been hurt~*~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 19:18:54 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: Note from the Jewel list manager: WHO exactly is "fighting"? Hi folks, This is just a quick note. I wish I had the time to write more, but with all the list mail to go through, and planning out the instructions for the "Jewel video" project, I just have to make this brief. More than a few EDAs have sent in posts about the "fighting". Some make it through, some don't. All I have to say is....who is fighting? I haven't seen any. Not real fighting anyway. People have to realize that FIRST AND FOREMOST this is a Jewel *discussion* list. Discussion. With discussion comes differing opinions. Just because someone posts "I disagree with that" does NOT mean it's a fight. It's a different opinion. That's all. Some of the wording may be strong at times, but it's really just stating a different opinion. Now I realize folks are getting some private emails that are a bit nasty, and can be construed a fight, but for crying out loud, no fighting has been happening ON the list. Heck, that's ONE major reason the list is now moderated.....because of the *real* fights that used to happen. You wanna see some list fights? Then go to the list archives and read the digests from September and October on 1997. You'll see some fights there. (that's just a sample period, there's been some big ones before....trust me) All that really is going on here is some discussion....which as I said is a main reason this list really was formed and continues to thrive. Else we would just be boring each other with identical opinion. Mike :-) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #669 ***************************
