Special/MTV News 1515 The "Where's Jesse/Top 25 Videos of the Decade" Jewel bit was hilarious!! I'm saying this because Jesse made a "cameo" in the YWMFM video (#25)..You know the part where Jewel is sitting on the bed singing to the camera and Steve Poltz is behind her, reaching to touch her, but pulls away? They put Jesse on the bed lying down behind Jewel so it looks like Steve is trying to touch him! The Jewel clips at the beginning are cool too...I'd never seen them before..And also, I don't know if this'll make it to the list in time, but the MTV News 1515 will be airing (for the last time?) tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 8:30 AM EST..It supposedly has a Jewel phone interview, but i haven't caught it yet.. I was listening to the radio on the way to work, a show called Open House Party. I believe the show is broadcast throughout the country. Anyways, they said that Sunday their guest will be Jewel. I totally and fully agree with every little thing that Carolyn posted! I'm glad SOMEONE saw it my way! As I myself thought POY is more poppy than Spirit, and I also agree that some people, many people, have been posting nothing but complaints on Spirit, which makes me question if they are really Jewel fans. But anyway, I just wanted to share that i'm estatic that someone also sees it my way! Thanks alot Airhead Angel for letting me know I'm truly not alone on my opinion :) - --Sonora ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 06:25:22 EST From: ICURMINE@aol.com Subject: Re: boy do I have a lot to say In a message dated 11/28/98 11:48:34 PM Central Standard Time, cris@bre.ipnet.de writes: cris@bre.ipnet.de wrote: > > *~"Spirt Will Have To Grow On Me" >> never, ever, make a cd grow on you. if ya dont like it, ya dont like >> it! if you constantly listen to a cd you dont like, youll hate it > > more! Oh boy, do I have to disagree on that.... :-) >If you really follow this policy you're bound to miss out on some great >music... I have to agree here... I listen to a little of just about anything you can name and a lot of it had to grow on me. Including POY. I first bought that one for my best friend Theresa and got my first taped copy so she could hear it in my car and at my house. Im glad she got that original copy... i think i remember laughing at her when she told me she wanted to buy it. In fact most of the rap i listen to had to grow on me. And i probably listen to as much of that as i do Jewel... which is quite a bit. Until we get the redesigned website up to snuff (soon!), I'll do my best to keep you updated. I'll be somewhat scatterbrained though, so be forwarned. My computer is still down & I'm relying on scribbled notes & memory, so if you see something here is obviously mistaken or discover more info, simply post that info to your fellow EDAs. I won't be able to reply in a timely manner & I don't know when I can log on next. Just finished talking to Lenedra & here's some more TV & related stuff for you. Monday, 11/30 Creative Coalition Dinner,NYC (This is not a public event) Monday, 11/30 Access Hollywood Show (check local listings) This will feature Jewel & Lenedra at the MOYA Dinner in San Diego from last month. Tuesday 12/1 Regis & Kathy Lee Show,NYC (NOTE: This IS confirmed now) NOTE - our note were hard to read, this MAY be on the 2nd....check their web site and your listings!! Tuesday 12/1 Aids Benefit, NYC (This is not a public event, but clips will be shown on CNN & FOX News broadcasts that evening quite likely) Wednesday 12/2 Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony,NYC (This will be broadcast live on NBC. 7PM for NYC area & 8PM for rest of USA. Thursday 12/3 Rolling Stone Year End double issue hits newstands with Jewel on the cover. Thursday 12/3 & Friday 12/4- Jewel in Toronto for TV & Radio appearances. I'm not up on what exactly she's doing, but EDAs can research & tell you more. I know a MuchMusic appearance is planned. I've also heard Dini Petty & CTV Open Mike both mentioned. There will be others, but I haven't the details. Please post if you know more details. (I'd also like to find a Toronto EDA that can help us with clean archive copies of this stuff. If you can help, contact me AFTER you have everything, please). Monday 12/7 DISNEY ONLINE CHAT. Check the Disney site for details. 12/9 & 12/10 I don't have exact confirmation yet, but Jewel will be a guest on both the Roseanne Show & Tom Snyder Show. Check local listings. Both of these shows will likely occur on these two days for reference. 12/14 OR 15 Charlie Rose Show, NYC- This is a NEW appearance. 12/16 The View, NBC, NYC (Check local listings. This IS now confirmed) 12/24 Christmas Eve Broadcast from Rome. Jewel will be included singing "Hands" & a Christmas song with a 100 piece orchestra & a 40 member choir. Taped in Vatican City & broadcast throughout Europe on Christmas eve. Check local listings. 1/99 This will primarily be spent off & doing new band rehearsals. The official launch of Higher Ground For Humanity will happen during the 3rd week of January sometime, too. 2/99 The 1st few weeks of February will be spent in Europe doing various radio & TV promotion. (No public concerts) 2/25/99 The Australian Tour begins in Melbourne. I'll put up the complete Australian/New Zealand schedule on the website soon. Check there in about a week or so. Steve Poltz will be the support act & Jewel is bringing her NEW band with her. (Note the new band will feature the pianist you've seen lately on TV, but all other members will be different from the current TV band. I'll educate you about that soon.) The EDAs down under will be very happy to know that Jewel is spending an ENTIRE MONTH in Australia/New Zealand & will play multiple nights at several venues. :-) I know a few May 99 Europe dates are coming in & I'll post those confirmed dates on the website in plenty of time, so worry not my International friends. Ditto on the Japan, Singapore & Malaysia swing in March. The only other miscellaneous things I can think of right now is that Jewel will also be on the cover of the January issue of Vogue & on the cover of Entertainment Weekly (the next issue, I think). She'll also be on the coer of the "USA Weekly" section in many Sunday Newspapers next week. Many of you will be recieving the first HGH/Jewel Merch mailer this week via snail mail. It's got initial HGH info & lots of new merchandise. It really came out beautiful & features Jewel drawings, interesting info about the products & is 24 pages in color! Very nice! If you never wrote to Jewel via the website or snail mail CD PO Box, you'll still be able to get one via phone or the website soon. I'll be milling around NYC at the tree lighting, so if ya see me, say hi. I guess thats all I can think of now. I hope everyone is doing well. Jewel, Lenedra & the entire Jewel staff says hi! Best wishes, MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 06:45:00 PST From: "Tiger Moon" Subject: Re: boy do I have a lot to say >Well, up to this day I have listened to those albums probably a few >thousand times, they've grown on me and I grew to love 'em and I discover >something new every time I hear those songs. > >I seriously doubt that you'll be able to say the same thing about a >song like "Hands" twenty years from now, which is particularly sad >because we know very well that Jewel is capable of writing songs that >can stand the test of time.... Hi, I agree, the more you listen, the more you hear, the more you feel, the more you understand. The magic of this is that no two people will hear the exact same thing. Spirit is much more poetic then previous works. I think she was trying to explore merging song with a higher poetic theme. Remember that many, many alblums are built to the formula. They are cookie cutter versions of all that came before. They are designed to burn fast and burn bright. They make money. There are some alblums which while there main purpose is to make money (we do live in the real world remember) they also reflect the artist's individual expression, their art, their passion. Spirit is very poetic in that it expresses emotions and ideals in a very complex, sometimes subtle manner. It is very much like a fine painting that exposes more and more of itself each time it is gazed upon. "Poetry is the most honest and immediate art form that I have found, it is raw and unfiltered." Jewel has explored many very profound, yet basic human themes of existence in Spirit. Each of her songs touches on a different theme. (Deep Water)- explores a person contemplating their life up to that point. Re-evaluation of priorities and in the the end finding that love is the highest form of existance."There's nothing without Love" (What's Simple is True) One of the most beautiful sounding songs on the alblum. Very mystical and wispy. It is a powerful love song, "It's simple but it's true, I Love You". Can't get much deeper into human basics then that."There's a warmth in my heart" Yes there is Jewel, and every EDA has felt it. (Hands) "If I could tell the world just one thing, we're all okay" "In the end, only kindness matters" Two of the most profoundly simple expressions of compassion and love for others I've ever heard. (Kiss the Flame)"Kiss the flame. Let's run with the hunted, the untamed. Kiss the flame, embrace the faceless, the un-named." "Show me one man that knows his own heart, to him I shall belong" We all know this was a love song speaking of Jewels secret love-hate thingy with Kurt Actually I think it's about having it all and then finding out you don't have the one thing in life that really matters. Love. Picture two tigers running wild and free, their only desire. Each other. (Down So Long)"Wind blows cold when you reach the top." The price of being Queen. Anyone who has ever climbed to the top of a very high mountain knows, it's excillarating but a very cold and lonely place. (Innocence Maintained)"Nature has a funny way of breaking that which doesn't, bend" "Be careful with each other, these fragile flames. Oh innocence can't be lost, just needs to be maintained." This song deals with religion and the condition of the human spirit. It is very, very deep and profound. It deals with mankinds supposed fall and loss of innocence. Remember this is the basis for the entire christian belief system and theology. Loss of innocence in Eden. Our little lady sets things right regarding this. Nicely done Jewel. (Jupiter) "Be still my little heart" "love is a flame neither timid or tame, Take these stars from my crown, let the years fall down" "You make me so crazt baby, I'd swallow the Moon" Just a fun, lusty love song. Talk about your Moon struck lover The only song I didn't really care for. Belongs on POY. Just my opinion though. "My heart has four empty rooms, three wait for lightning, one waits for,.....you" It's been said we only hurt the ones we love. The deeper the love,... "Were the winds all blow" "Me and my shadow are wrestling agian. Look out stranger, there's a dark cloud moving in" "But if you could hear the voice in my heart it would tell you, I'm afraid I'm alone. Won't somebody please hold me, release me, show me the meaning of mercy, let me loose. Fly, let me fly" Love and loneliness. She's trying to say what's really in her heart, what her real desire is, what her real dream is. Anybody listening? She used to fly. A tribute to ever woman on the face of the planet, past, present and yet to be born. I'll let the ladies handle this one. I have but one thing to say. "Oh thank heaven, thank heaven, for little girls,..." They grow up to be beautiful big girls "The man is a marvel, it's ashame about his brains" Ouch! Sometimes I feel sorry for all the boyz. There is nothing more lethal, more devestatingly seductuive and alluring then an intelligent and beautiful woman. Jewel is one of the most intelligent women on the face of the planet. She's also one of the most passionate. Guy's, we don't stand a chance. Still, it most be truly flattering to her that when most men speak of her it's about her talents as an artist first. "Inside my heart theres an empty room. It's waiting for lightning, it's waiting for you." This and Stranger frop the east ar my two favorites. It is a huantingly beautiful, touching song. Jewel shining and sparkling at her most brilliant. "There is this restlessnes inside of me, there is this hunger and it knows you are no stranger, your my gravity." Absolutely beatiful and heartfelt. Quite a lady. Well those are just some thoughts. Spirit is just what it says it is, an intimate and profound look into the human spirit. It's funny, EDA's are just like parents. They nourish and care for the child, watching her grow and mature. That's our little girl they say. They do everything a good parent should and when finally the little girl spreads her wings and flies on her own, they have the same reaction every other parent has. Little girls grow up my friends. Just remember that you have been the greatest parents a girl could ever hope for. She has grown into a unique and beautiful human being. A seperate and unique sparkling Jewel. Realize that what she is, is the sum of all that you have taught her and encoruaged her to be. Part of her will always be the best parts of you. She has become the sum of all your parts, and in growing the whole has become greater then the sum of it's parts. Isn't that the hope of every good parent? "My hands are small I know, but they're mine, not your's" TigerMoon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 10:32:52 EST From: Nsol2001@aol.com Subject: Listen up...(Enter From The East) So, I was listening to Enter From the East and I thought I heard something in the background. It's like this very faint voice but it's more like a cry. I don't know if it's those voices in my head playing tricks on me again :) so will someone listen to it? You can hear it at approximately 3:26. You hear it right after she finishes saying "place." Maybe it's an echo from an instrument or something. Write back and tell me what you think. This is great news, finally a talent hits our shores! The worst though is that when Jewel arrives in Perth, Western Australia, I won't be home to see her play :((( I'll be in Los Angeles (kind of a trade-off I suppose!) Well anyway, speak to you soon no doubt! And remeber... "We are loved beyond our ability to comprehend..." Cheers!
