Subject: Fat Boy truth In her FANCAST chat session, and broadcast over www.sonicnet.com, Jewel said that "Fat Boy" aka "Fragile Flame" is about a boy she used to know who killed himself...um, is it just me, or did she not say that this *wasn't* a true story in an interview not so long ago....can someone clear this up for me please? I thought "Don't" was one of the few true stories turned into a song. Derrick ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 21:45:43 EST From: JaZzToPaZ@aol.com Subject: stuff Well, I'm participating in the little fancast thingie...and it's kinda neat. I just wish it were all in real motion...the real audio's kinda slow. I was just wondering if anyone has noticed all the blockbuster artists that Jewel will be competing with tomorrow. There's Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Garth Brooks, Seal...for starters, and of course Alanis, U2, Celine Dion, R Kelly from the past few weeks...wow, what a busy holiday season it's going to be music-wise. Well, good luck to her, I guess! jacob-dairyman; disney freak ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 03:52:26 -0000 From: "CHORIER" Subject: WebFancast in France! Hi EDAs! They're just broadcasting "Innocence Maintained" during her break. I just loved her live perform of "Deep Water".It's so beautiful to = listen to! I love her acoustic songs, such as Deep Water. I think it was a real good idea to broadcast this interview on the net ! = They should do more often! What a great jewel is she... Well, now, they're playing "Kiss the Flame" and she is coming back. It's about 4h00 am here in France.I'm quite tired but, Let's listen to her now... Julien (address: roger.chorier@accesinternet.com ) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 21:43:37 EST From: Rolkdog@aol.com Subject: webcast stuff Well, she's taking a break right now after playing a great Deep Water. And it's obvious she hasn't really changed or anything, judging from the responses she gave, she's the same person that she's always been. And even though the video quality sucks ass, she seems to be dressed just fine for those of you worried about that whole thing, which I'm not. They also are playing stuff off the album now and Down So LOng sounded great, and Innocence Maintained sounded just fine to me. Can't wait til tomorrow, it'll be great I'm sure. Oh yeah, that comment about the puppies was pretty funny. I'm just gonna keep typing while I'm watching... She's looking very good tonight and it's just great to know what my girl's doing right now =) OK now she's finishing... She had to decide between Enter From The East and Absence Of Fear, and she chose AOF, MY FAVORITE!!! Yesssssssss! LoL... Well I'm gonna send send this and be gone... I have my album so I'll go listen to it =) You guys have fun going to the store at midnight!!! Bye! Acoustic or full-band, this song has always been higher tempo and although it's "our" song, i dunno, i liked it how it was [stubborn] 2) What's Simple Is True My first time hearing this one. It's pretty classic, I like it, very "simple." 3) Hands I've heard this song once on the radio... not a big fan... then again i remember when the first single was supposed to be Satellite and dammit, that song's tremendous compared to Hands. once again, just my opinion. 4) Kiss The Flame ooh i like this! once again, very classic, i could imagine this being played at an innerchange show, which is an acid test for me :) 5) (Been) Down So Long God i've always loved this song. soooo happy to see it here, and i like the production although once again seems to lack the tempo i'm used to, live. 6) Innocence Maintained WHAT did they do to this song. It's in a different key/mode and there's organs and all kinds of crap. and she's mumbling the words... lord they ruined this one. 7) Jupiter Another new one. kinda weird, expected it to be like Satellite for some reason. no, but i think there's a guitar effect from satellite in there somewhere... where's Flea on bass ;) 8) Fat Boy Yessir, "Fat Boy" is a much more attractive name for a song than "Fragile Flame"... another odd marketing decision. Then again, we call her "Jewel" because "Jewel Kilcher" wouldn't fit on the album cover. Oh well. I've always liked this song, and it's pretty much the way we know it :) 9) Enter From The East Right off the bat i miss the cello in the opening bars. nothing in the world, like hearing this song in its embryonic stages, just jewel, her guitar, and ... forget his name playing cello. i'm nostalgic, forgive me. 10) Barcelona "Let me fly..." to the next track. (sorry not a big fan of this one) 11) Life Uncommon this is really starting to sound like a Tara MacLean album only with jewel singing.. which would be great, if it were Tara MacLean, but it's not. It's jewel. although this song is actually pretty good. the producer, Patrick Leonard, is apparently a big fan of the ol' Hammond B-3 organ. this song belongs on a movie soundtrack, or something. 12) Do You What happens when you put Satellite in a blender? You get Do You. It's the same entire idea, even sounds similar... this is my favorite of the new songs. Although there it is again, that organ. I like this song. definitely a conglomeration song. 13) Absence Of Fear Surprised, and happy, this one made it to the album... i'd conceded that it had evolved into enter from the east. not a big fan of the piano though... here's one that definitely would have benefited from the solo-guitar approach. But they say, you like something the way you first get to know it, or something like that. 14) Little Bird cute... wait... this sounds VERY familiar... it's *FROM* Jewelstock!!! Now we know why jewelstock tapes were so closely guarded, they didn't want bootleg copies of Little Bird floating around in .mp3 before the album came out! ;) seriously, i don't know if this was public info that the version they were using was FROM jewelstock, but i'm .... man this is cool! (but they least they could have done was stick a 'damn ye harris brothers') at the end!) So that's my critical review of "Spirit" ... sorry it couldn't be more positive, but it's my interpretive review, and remember i'm nostalgic and wish we could have the bearsville sessions on CD, and my favorite songs are carnivore and satellite and Down and 1,000 miles away and Love Me Just Leave Me Alone. none of which, apparently belong on this album :) okay back to lurking... PS Alan we're gonna miss you, even since joining this list two years ago i've always depended onyou for legit info, sorry i still haven't met ya, but i'm sure i will eventually. - -tim 'burkeman' ______ ____ ____ / ____/ / __ \ / | Tim Burke / __/ / / / / / /| | timothy.burke@ohio.edu / /___ / /_/ / / ___ | /_____/ /_____/ /_/ |_| "I am a worm." -Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 22:15:09 EST From: TFace151@aol.com Subject: Jewel's webcast I just got done watching Jewel's web cast and it was great!!!!!!!! My questions weren't answered, but a lot of good ones were. and she played Deep Water and Absence of Fear and read a poem, it was great. I enjoyed it, except before the chat some jerk came on and said they wer jewel and started bashing everything and being an ass.( excuse my language). Other than that it was great. I tought the fancast was fantastic even if it was rather late to get started I just wish she had of been able to answer more questions That my piece. Hope you all enjoyed it!!! Mike:-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 22:15:16 EST From: Salinger99@aol.com Subject: Jewel Fancast Well, I must say that the last 15-20 minutes of the Fancast was enjoyable (that's when the intelligable sound came back), while the rest of it was unintelligable (the sound was garbled, which was the fault of net congestion, and my PC couldn't handle the frames). They really need to add more connections so that more people can check out webcasts w/o a significant loss of pic and sound quality. Does anyone know if it would've made a difference if I had connected through jeweljk.com or Sonicnet, rather than Atlantic's website? The Yahoo chat, itself was informative, as all Jewel chats are, but I wish they could've cleaned up the sound a little earlier. And unfortunately I didn't find out that Yahoo's default chat setting is "weak" word censorship, so I missed half of what Jewel said, before realizing I had to tell it to not filter the chat. Oh, well. I guess I'll just read the transcript. I'm glad to see that, as it is a big turnaround from earlier this year toward the end of the cycle with Foolish Games. Also, does anyone know if this thing was archived? I tried to record it somehow but it didnt work :-) - -Rob ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 22:34:42 -0500 From: "Matt Adler" Subject: ALL EDA's, Jewel needs your help................or rather, Hands does ok, so, I think it has been in agreement that most of us want Hands to be on the total request countdown when Jewel is on the show. Well, if everyone who reads this e-mail will go to the Total Request webpage and vote for Hands once or maybe even twice, it will bring it up so that it is on the countdown. Right now it has 1% of the vote! that isn't good. Common angels, we can do it, if not for us, then do it for Jewel! http://www.mtv.com/mtv/tubescan/totalrequest2/ is the URL, just click on it and then click on hands, and do the rest. I have to do something that is called a senior project to graduate. For my project I have chosen to do a video. ( Okay I'm draging this on a bit too long. ) The point of this e-mail is to ask for your (EDAs) help. Sure, the official website serves its purpose, but no >longer will we be privy to special information or private and special fan >status as we were in the past. > I hole heartily agree, that is one of the things that made this list so special the feeling of closeness to Jewel (and fans of Jewel) by receiving up to date information (even messages from Jewel herself) before everyone else outside of the list new anything about it, but some may take this to be an act of selfishness on our part, in that we are privy to info no one else can get simply because we are on the Everyday Angels List and we don't want that to change. At least with all the info on the Jewel web site others who may only access the internet at school, work what/where ever may simply surf over to the web site and find out the latest information with out having to subscribe to the mailing list and get a host of info that they perhaps have no interest in (ie. the daily rantings of the list). So while I am disappointed at losing Mr.BB's informative emails I can see why it was done, to allow more people access to the info. Having said that I feel it will take a hell of a lot out of the list and perhaps make Jewel somewhat more distant from the list which disappoints me, but then again Jewel ( and Mr.BB come to that) owe me nothing, as is the case with the rest of you. I just hope this list stays somewhat personal and doesn't turn into the sort of place that the Jewel news group is. As for the question of another Jewelstock, realistically I don't think there was ever a chance of another one, Jewel has simply got too big for it, .................but I live in hope that I am proved wrong!!!
