Is there a website that displays EDA poetry? If not I think it would be a great idea to have one. It would be a great way for EDAs to relate to each other. I find other EDAs to be just as uplifting as Jewel herself. Let me know what you think and if you guys want to contribute. I am an experianced programmer and would enjoy making a site for it. I took a trip to NYC 2 years ago, and a certain Jewel event got scheduled, after my (non-refunable) return ticket was booked for Wednesday, July 17th, 1996. I don't wanna offend any British EDA's cos you guys are the exception to the rule but the sad fact is the majority of British music fans don't "get" Jewel and probably never will... they get the Spice Girls, Oasis, Daft Punk & Puff Daddy but they just don't get Jewel... we used to get UK MTV here in New Zealand so you get a taste for the kinda music that gets played over there and, unfortunately, Jewel just doesn't fit in... so, basically what I'm trying to say is... The 1st 100 respondees to yesterday's post were included on my list. Here's what will happen next. The MTV woman in charge & her staff will begin calling you and/or emailing you to confirm if you are one of these two possibilities: 1.) You are one of the lucky 60 EDAs that will comprise the "in studio" audience for a special Jewel performance & interview airing live next Tuesday afternoon. 2.) You are one of the lucky 40 EDAs that will comprise an outdoor audience for MTV Total Request Live also airing Tuesday afternoon. This will be in a special area & approx 40 more EDAs will be invited to be part of this. Jewel will come outside & greet these people too & free "Spirit" CDs will be given away. So approximately 100 of you will be on MTV with Jewel next Tuesday & a few will be selected to ask her questions. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT This is now totally out of my hands & I will not be answering questions about this. MTV will contact everyone on the "invitation list" personally & thats how you'll know if you are to be invited. I CAN NOT GIVE YOU ANY INFO ON STATUS BECAUSE I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WHO HAS BEEN CONTACTED OR WHEN MTV DECIDES THEY HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE. Please remember this & DO NOT write me asking for status. If you sent your info in before midnight last night EST then you are probably on the list that included the first 100 replies. If you followed the instructions & included ALL info I asked for, then chances are you'll be contacted. If you are contacted, MTV staff will provide you with directions, timing needs & any other criteria that you'll need to know. I will no longer be checking this MrBBReply@aol.com account other than to delete any late replies. With that said, I wish all who replied good luck! This should be a lot of fun for everyone. To those who attend, ENJOY YOURSELF & the rest of us will tune in & watch you on MTV next Tuesday! AmyJo & I might attend & if we do, I look forward to meeting more of you. :-) Thank you to all who followed the instructions! You made my part of this fairly comfortable & I appreciate it! Very few hold SAG cards (Kimberly Ashlyn Gere (Patton) and Tracy Lords might be the only ones). In all likelihood, Jewel uses Jewel Kilcher cuz, well, that's her name. > My thought since this girl was going to wash a car in a bibiny maybe > it's this other girl. > Not to be rude but that type of movie dosen't seem like jewel. I would agree, it doesn't sound like Jewel, but hey, Jewel's a cool name, nickname or otherwise, it could've been anyone or even someone just yankin' someone else's chain. Hi Guys, I was browsing in my local newsagent today and happened across this week's "NME" and had a look at their reviews section. They've reviewed the new album, and let me tell you, it's the most vitriolic, hurtful and desperately bad review I have yet to see in a British magazine. They gave it 1 out of 10, and basically condemned Jewel for mentioning religion/god. I suspect the review might be on http://www.nme.com in the next few days - perhaps someone in the UK who regularly buys it might type the review up? (new from Ireland) hi EDA's! i'm new to the list, i just thought i'd say hi! my name's Barry, i live in Derry in Northern Ireland. i totally love jewel! i first heard her on MTV about 2 years ago, and i've been crazy about her ever since! she's pretty much non-existant over here. not a lot of people know her - it's annoying. if people ask me what music i like i'd say jewel, and they're like "who?" but, more and more people are beginning to get hooked on her, so it's cool. Hands was released here on monday, but unfortunately none of the record stores in my city can get a hold of it. i've been calling then every day asking if "jewel has come in yet" they must think i'm crazy! so, if there's any EDA's living in and around Ireland or the UK (or any where else, of course!) i'd love to hear from you! bye! love Barry ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Nov 1998 12:03:15 EST From: BardMern@aol.com Subject: "Have a Little Faith in me" Hey EDA's.I was just wondering ig if Jewel wrote the song Have a Little Faith in Me or did someone else.I was listening to it and my aunt, county music fan, said she recognized this song but she said it was sung by someone else.Well bye. - -The Warrior Bard of Angels Visit my poetry Page at http://members.aol.com/MernielixS/Poetry.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Nov 1998 19:43:47 +0100 From: Jesse Houwing Subject: Re: Hands Stills from angelfoodcake84#juno.com For those people who think that 599 Kb is way too much... "SPIRIT" Jewel Once again wearing her heart on her sleeve and feeling everyone's pain, Jewel returns with Spirit (Atlantic Records) an album that has a stronger instrumental presence than Pieces of You. This time, radio can't complain that there's no backbeat. They also can't complain there's no single. "Hands'' is the first track to radio, but you can bet such catchy songs as "Jupiter,'' "Life Uncommon'' and "Deep Water'' will also mark the airwaves before the album's run has ended. What they can complain about is that Jewel still stays in the shallow end of the pool with her reflections. Love may be the answer, but Jewel never asks anything but the most basic questions. The world according to Jewel is still populated with boys who leave her weak-kneed in love, people picked on for the wrong reasons, and fuzzy kittens hidden inside every dandelion. Ah, Jewel. Sweet, precious, hippy-dippy Jewel. Would that you had a touch of mean in that "Spirit'' to really give us something to think about. But, as they say in your hometown of San Diego, whatever...... While we wait for that day, we'll curl up with a scented candle and enjoy one of the most beautiful and comforting voices in popular music. This is not at all offensive. The general record-buying British public doesn't seem to actually buy Jewel's music, no matter how hard she tries! At the moment she is slowly growing as an underground-type artist because almost everyone I know has heard of her, but they just haven't heard her. I show my friends some Jewel music and most of them actually like some of the songs, and I have made about 8 people buy the album POY in only 6 months, and we're all cutting class on Friday so we can go into Holland and get it (I actually live on a UK Army base in Germany)... So, there are a few of us! Don't forget that! And I think you may offend some UK EDAs by saying that the UK doesn't get Jewel, because, if you look at that statement carefully, it's kind of racist. You can't say that no-one in the UK likes Jewel, because a few of us love her very much! So please think next time you tell us that we don't get Jewel (even though I think maybe you were talking about the guy who reviewed the album!)... Hope this made sense.
