I want to tell you all how a lovely chat i heard with Jewel & Richard Allison on BBC Radio 2. It was a very good interview, with Jewel really chatting about her new album and her work with producer Patrick Leonard. She mentioned that she met Patrick 4 weeks before she decided to do another album. She told Richard that he was the most honest person and that he could really let Jewel decide what she wants to put on the record, instead of those producers who are only interested in the 'hits' phenomenon. She tells in this interview too that she written for this new album 2 specific songs Do You and Hands. The others has she also written of course, but mainly in the period of her Pieces of You Tour worldwide. She claims to do another poetrybook next summer after the end of the US Tour of Spirit, and she mentioned that she wants to play a role in a new movie by then too. The most tremendous part of the radio interview was of course the singing of two songs : Do You and Jupiter. And have already been listening to this three times, and it really is prolific and Jewel's own work. It sounds very good, she sings again very beautiful and not to forget those songs from her absolute brilliant new album Spirit which hits the stores in holland on november the 13nd were performed in the BBC studio .....Jewel and just her guitar. What a talented singer/songwriter from Alaska. She tells that she only learnt how to play guitar at the age of 17 years. And that the time between she wrote POY and Spirit is exactly 8 years. So Jewel, our favorite artist has always written down lovely songs since she was a young girl. How nice she tells that she has a songlist in her mind of 200 written songs. So this new album is just one where she is picking some songs that tells her public how she thinks and feels about her music right now. Richard and Jewel really were on the jazz....at some point Richard asked Jewel : Does anybody told you so far, that this new album is different, not maybe the same as POY....reaction of Jewel that made me really laugh : ' Are you hinting at something particularly '. What a sweet and intelligent woman Jewel is. The songs Do You and Jupiter are excellent as i have already mentioned. Jupiter was not finished while making the new album, but Patrick liked it after hearing Jewel singing this to be finished song, and that's what happened, she wrote the song and it really rocks. Again the lyrics really strucks me , Jewel has a natural and talented way of saying things about life to the people. Jewel told that she was really surprised by her succes of the poetrybook A night without Armor, she tells Richard that she written the book and selected her poems while she was playing the female role in the film a ride with the devil, honestly she tells Richard that this was a stressfull time cause she had to focus on acting in a cast with 14 man, and that she has to write book A night without armor. So again it was a lovely show and i want to say every Jewelfan loves this interview which i am sure of..anyone liking a copy who missed it in holland or elsewhere can contact me as one of Jewel's most dedicated fans. Take care and wait but do pray for Jewel's new album Spirit. Alright, so I'm expecting a flood of emails all talking about how great it fit, but oh well...I had to write in anyway. The way "Hands" was set up when it came in...I don't think any song's been played so perfect on a stupid little show (sorry if I offend, I love the show, myself =))!! Really....the song just made you totally wrapped up in what happened...and the scenes...and with everything that was going on...it just fit so well, and I seem to be repeating myself, aren't I? I'm sorry... Anyway, BUT there's also the fact that they played it all the way up to the last "I will get down on my knees and I will pray". They NEVER do that! Anyone who watches these nighttime soap things knows they cut the songs off after the first chorus! Did I mention that it fit so well? Cuz it did =) And I was surprisingly quite taken aback by the moment. Props to the WB. Take care, and sorry I can be so annoying! It's lovely especially as i like it to be from Atlantic Records. We in Europe have Warner Music Europe, but i prefer Jewel's own label Atlantic Records. Did you check AR new site ? It has a 'video' of Jewel in a shockwave format! http://www.jewel-web.com/ you can also sign up for Jewe'ls official mailing list, to receive updated emails on her tour schedule, news info, contests and more! greetings, michiel. Subject: Same as movie This seems to parallel the movie City of Angels...I wonder if she got her idea for the video from that movie? Same concept anyway. - ------------------ >Hi there EDA's > I just finally saw the hands video. I though that it was very well done. >From watching the video, I felt that Jewel was very strongly portrayed as an angel/Christ like figure. In many religions, people believe that angels and God are constantly looking over us, unnoticed to mortal eyes. The angels and Gods make sure we are in safe "hands" and saved from our conflicts. In the video, Jewel watches over all of the people in distress. She is not noticed by the surrounding people and seems to go from person to person, ensuring their well being. In the beginning, Jewel helps and foresees that the man trapped under the rubble is discovered and helped out of the hole, then the video turns and she watches the three young kids get released from the room(?) they were locked in. Many people believe that when in near death situations, angels or God look over you to see that you safely escape, and that is exactly what Jewel seems to do in the new video. If you EDA's think that I have weird viewpoints, take into consideration that I'm am only fifteen and still trying to make sense of my surroundings. ~ Ben ~ Angel of the ocean ~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Nov 1998 15:06:54 EST From: PunkaPixie@aol.com Subject: Hey all - Jewel's future Late Shows? hey i just got my ticket/seat holding thing in the mail for the Late Show with David Letterman and i have to call and request a date to be in the audience.. i wanted it to be the date Jewel's on since her new album's coming out in like 2 weeks.. anyone know? and if not jewel.. who will be on in the coming weeks? ------------------------------ Date: 5 Nov 98 20:13:36 +0100 From: "Chris Groves" Subject: UK Radio update. I have heard that Jewel may be interviewed on the Steve Wright show on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday morning (10am - 1pm). Also did anyone in the UK manage to record Jewel on HeartFM yesterday? I missed it :-( And just in case you missed it Jewel was interviewed on BBC Radio 2 last night on the Richard Allinson show. She performed two songs Do You and Jupiter, both acoustically. Jewel said that she would be back in the UK in January for a short promotional visit. There would be a proper European tour in April and May and she may possibly be in Cannes to promote her film. She also said that her second book would be released in July and she is hoping to do another film once she has finished touring in August. I CANNOT SUSTAIN MY EXCITEMENT, Nik - an Aspiring Angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Nov 1998 18:00:52 PST From: "Greg White" Subject: Jewel's Promotion Hi all! I really hate to bring this up with everyone [me included] being so happy about hands/new video/dawsons creek etc. But I have to say something cause it's driving me crazy! OK, lots of people are always saying "Go to this page and vote for Jewel, we need to get her to number one!" which is great! I love supporting Jewel! Lots of people write in saying "Yeah! On this-and-this chart jewel is number whatever!" and "Oh, I really hope this song does really really well" along with a whole bunch of "I hope Jewel's new album will do well against all the compition!" Yet, whenever Jewel goes and tries to promote her new songs, or her new album people complain that she's selling out, or conforming to hollywood or changing. Jewel wants to be succesfull. Who doesn't? Don't hold it against her. Remember when she sang Foolish games on Rosie ODonnel? And everyone was in a big huff about it when she also sang it on Jay Leno? [or was it the other way around] Well that would be called, PROMOTING her new single. That way it will become successful! Which is what we want, right? Otherwise we'd be complaining that Foolish games dropped off the chart! When Jewel puts her song on Dawsons creek, it's called "Airplay" which exposes the song to more people, which makes it more popular! It's almost the same as the radio, it's a form of promotion! Would we be yelling at Jewel for wanting her songs on the radio! When she sings a song on a talk show, it's like the same thing. What I am trying to say is that we are going to be hearing "Hands" A LOT in the next while, and I don't want my mailbox filled with complaints [I realize that right now I'm contributing to that now, sorry!] Greg ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Nov 1998 21:28:36 EST From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB:Re: www.jewel-web.com/other stuff Hi, Several answers to these common burning questions of late: In a message dated 11/5/98 9:33:06 PM, jewellover333@hotmail.com wrote: >Well, I went to check out www.jewel-web.com and, although I don't think >it's completely finished, I loved the movie...Is this going to be the >new site revealed November 17th, or will it still be at www.jeweljk.com? No, this is strictly a new Atlantic Records site/project & is not what the J-team are so diligently working on. I dropped a message to Atlantic's media director & I'll pass on any info she sends along about this. The official Jewel site will have its NEW unvieling on (or around) the 17th. Lots of great things are in the works & I'll fill you in when I can give you all the accurate info in one BIG post. >Has Ride With The Devil gotten a title change? (In my opinion, "Ride With The Devil" is a ridiculous title & "AoF" works better for me, so if the rumor isn't true, I'm up for the change! hehe.....) >Has the Jewel management team listened to our merchandise requests by >that poll?
