Ended with a bizarre twist, a felling that sent me back in time, to the day i first heard Jewel's captivating voice and those lyric that seem to reach in side my chest and cradle my little heart. For this evening i heard "Hands" for the first time. That strange but familiar felling came over me. That felling that makes my body tremble, my stomach sink, and my heart fly. This set me down on my knees. Hands is truly a beautiful song. You all know the part of "hands" when they find they guy under all the debris and Jewel sings "In the end only kindness matters" Well I suddenly started crying, I couldn't help it. Now when ever I see that part my eyes go watery! Sorry I just had to get it out and you guys are the only ones that would understand me. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Nov 1998 08:30:48 -0500 From: Karyn Cruz Subject: To: EDAs who'll be in NYC/Long island Nov. 26, 1998!!! Paul Steve Poltz One Left Shoe (Mercury) What's a frat rocker to do when he grows up? Go alt-schmaltz. At least that's what Steve Poltz has done. The frontman of the slightly-known three-chords-and-a-twelver outfit the Rugburns has set aside that wacky nonsense in favor of One Left Shoe, a singer-songwriterly solo debut that recalls, among others, '70s soft-rock king James Taylor. Sobering news to Rugburns fans maybe, but really, San Diegan Poltz has always been a folky deep-down, now he's just outing himself. The bloody proof? He co-wrote THE warm 'n' fuzzy mega-hit of 1997, Jewel's "You Were Meant For Me." (And yes, for those of you keeping score at home, that is Poltz playing Jewel's long-locked beau in that song's video.) One Left Shoe is in many ways an extension of Jewel's sappy career-making chart-topper. Featuring collaborations with and backing vocals from everyone's favorite yodeling San Diego-via-Alaska buxom surfer chick ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ folky, as well as a band comprised of some of L.A.'s most upstanding ^^^^^ session musicians, Shoe lilts like a summer breeze with sappy acoustic sentiments like "Good Morning ("Waking Up with You)" and "Everything About You." These are the kind of songs the girls are gonna want played at their weddings and the dudes are gonna hate. In fact, One Left Shoe might make Poltz the first legitimate male contender for Lilith Fair status. Yeah, it's THAT kind of album. And it's also THAT good. In the era of the grunge hangover and the DJ Somethingoranother flu, a guy with an acoustic guitar, a soothing voice, and gentle melody is like an Altoid after a clove of garlic. Besides, Poltz -- a true craftsman who digs to the root of the classic folk songwriting experience -- has charm, pathos, and humor to spare, whether pondering the ghosts of love's past ("I Thought I Saw You Last Night"), disillusionment ("Silver Lining"), or a tryst with a Bob-Seger loving prostitute ("Forbidden Fruit"). You're not gonna mosh to it and you're not gonna bliss out to it, but you just might catch its cuddly buzz, that is, if it doesn't make you nauseous first. - -- Neal Weiss ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Nov 1998 14:19:12 EST From: AquaJSZM31@aol.com Subject: Jewel screen savers Hey all does anyone know where I can find a Jewel screen saver ??
