Without his support and commitment to this list, we wouldn't be informed and have got the beautiful news about projects that Jewel has been working on for the last four years. I never experienced a digest more dedicated to an artist from the world, than Jewel from Alaska. I really do think this list is just only meant to be for the prayer of Jewel and not to criticise her carreer and her lovely achievements so far. I agree this list absolutely needs to be MODERATE , otherwise this list will get lost in it's meaning : TO KEEP US INFORMED of interesting Jewel acitivities. I live in Holland, and i like Jewel a lot, and because of this list i have been able to share my feelings for Jewel and her music . I could trade tapes with friends, i met friends who like Jewel in England , Holland and Belgium. So you can imagine that the goal of this digest needs always to be maintained : Spread all the possible good news about Jewel. So no harsh critics or other non-jewel messages have to enter this site. So we don't like to read accusions, and other crap like i have the mp3 of hands on my site. We all know that Jewel will not benefit from that kind of actions. We should all buy her album Spirit when it will be relaesed and if you have your copy of this lovely cd than you will smile and think : wow this singer /songwriter makes me happy, has to tell the world a message. We all love Jewel for her great carreer, her honesty , her truth in all her activities so far. she began to sing in local coffeehouses as we all know, and suddenly she got that record deal. And we began to share our feelings and admiration for Jewel. Jewel began to develop, gave many many concerts and made everybody thinking of her great music. She wrote a poetrybook for her fans, so that we could share her great poems and let us fans look through the eyes of Jewel . I think when an artist is doing this, she is unique because she shares her feelings and appreciation for us fans. And when Jewel got a little bit tired of just only giving concerts, she wanted to do something completely different. Making and acting in a movie about Civil War. I can imagine what that a difference this made for Jewel. She was able to give some other side of her talents to the public and she could experience some other interests that she had eg acting a female role in a movie (it is hard waiting to see it hitting the cinemas, but if it breaks through than we have the most talented artist of the 90-ties we admire so much, Jewel Kilcher from Alaska). Now we all fans look intensively forward to all her upcoming appereances on american television and we , european fans of jewel, are hoping to see Jewel in those intimate and lovely venues perform and sing . This album Spirit will be the one that we will play a lot of times, cause Jewel has got us something to tell...her most recent song Hands is there the perfect purpose of. This song is different, but when you listen to it very carefully , than you can hear the voice of Jewel telling the words very passionate. It's just the fact that we all every day angels need to realize that this Jeweldigest is only meant to be for fair opinions about Jewel. We don't have anything to read about all kinds of relationsproblems, crap like i have the rafile or mp3 of hands, or other really boring topics like i have something that you don't have, or more of that kind of uninteresting non relating Jewel information we would love to read as fans of her in the whole world. So remember the lyrics of the last song of Jewel, especially this sentence : - -- in the end only kindness matters -- So think twice, be smart fans and don't think this list will be every the same again when we keep posting the irrelevant news about our artist we like so much . it's just the fact that this list have no generated over 200 mails in two days in my mailbox that makes it really nice to think of the use of posting to the jeweldigest. Do this only if you think you have any comment that is worth to be read by most of our fans. I agree with Heather posting that this list needs to be moderated otherwise it will lose it's excistence, and the last thing we want that happening . Enough talked , but i really needed to express my feelings about this whole subject, as one of the dedicated Jewelfans in Holland. Mike keep doing the job you have done so greatly, in the end everything will turn out let we say fine. greetings from holland, Michiel owner of one of the dutch websites made for admiration of Jewel http://members.xoom.com/Jewelimpala/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 20:21:22 +0100 From: "Astier Sylvain" Subject: Re: jewel-digest V3 #538 >From: "Willms, Gregory J." >Mike, you're welcome to start moderating again. >- -Greg Willms I agree so much with you Greg ! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 14:29:28 -0400 From: thumbkin@juno.com (Christa L Hinman) Subject: this is pathetic Come on you guys. Grow up. This is pathetic act your age my gosh. You all should be ashamed of yourself all of you posting like this. This used to be a perfect list thanks to Mike, and now look at it. He's trying to proove a point and look at us! Don't you agree with me on this? I'm 12 and there are many (probably all) of you who are older than me and I'm the one telling you to calm down and grow up, or at least act your age. This is too pathetic. We are here because we are fans for Jewel not to goof around. Now come on I am embarresed and ashamed of all of you. Learn to grow up. Do you guys remember when I complained about my local DJ (on Star 100.7 in San Diego) laughing at me when I requested "Hands" last Friday? Well, that same DJ responded to my e-mail request and he is such a dumb-butt! Subject: On Innocence > From: NiKoS12@aol.com > > Cherish your innocence...see this is one thing i never did > understand...how the heck can your regain or even maintain innocence > when you've been exposed to soemthing, it's just stupid wistful > thinking... I agree with what you're saying but only to an extent. (Note that I do not pretend to analyse this from any great philosophical height but merely want to give a brief explanation of what I believe is meant. Please breathe and consider before flaming, but feel free to respond.) As a Christian I believe we have a basic tendency towards sin. Whether we like it or not we have little or no true 'innocence' from the time we know of obedience / disobedience (good / evil, if you prefer) and choose the latter. IMO what 'maintaining innocence' is a focus on our good side as well as an admission that, without effort, the darker side of our humanity will take over - concerted effort is required to counteract it, and it's not always going to be successful. Personally I think it's an admirable intention and, although it's impossible to regain the complete innocence a baby enjoys, it makes life for those around you easier if you try to rage against the night :-). (I'd like to make a note to this comment since I brought Christianity into it and I really don't want to misrepresent what I know of God. While we can try to be innocent we can never be enough of a 'good person' to restore our innocence and our relationship with God. That's up to Him and that's what Jesus died for. While I apologize for any offence caused I'd rather offend the EDAs than God. Sure nothing has to be completely related to the subject of Jewel...but have you noticed how we are attacking each other...instead of approaching a different opinion by using 'gentler' words--instead of blurting out whatever very inappropiate words and phrases we learn from society indirectly/directly Please think about it...I don't mean to sound accusative but we are all part of this list as a united group...not a disfunctional-anarchic group...Just because it's unmoderated doesn't mean we suddenly change masks and become Mr./Ms. Hyde....Or does it? Perhaps that's why Mike Connell is leaving it unmoderated because he's tired from reading such abusive emails to one another on the list...Okay some of the emails are appropiate just because it may related to EDA people. Plus, if this is what you may consider a freedom of speech liberty--then do you think you would hurt from refraining to flame or verbally abuse another person on the list? And what about the other person who hurts from your e-mail?
