I didnt want to post anything to the list, for fear of adding to the chaos but it had to be done. I have to admit, I think you are proving that the list NEEDS to be moderated... desperately! We are no longer at a small manageable size that can be fully trusted to post material that would be beneficial to the rest of the EDAs. I am not offended at all by the odd posts, maybe shocked, stunned and a little amused that someone took up your offer on asking help on homework. Crazy. I guess what I am trying to say is if at all possible, the list could use some moderation. I dont know about the rest of you, but I used to look forward to getting my daily digests and now, I can usually go a few days before reading the content. Please guys... help Mike out... THINK before you post. If you are so angered that you absolutely HAVE to type out your aggressions, do so, and then SEND IT TO YOURSELF... that way, you will have gotten it out of your system and not hurt anyone in the process... and you can laugh at your silly email after the fact. We write some hot topics when we are angry :c) Be good to Mike and Mr BB... they are not only kind and informative, but fellow EDAs, and pretty darn cool! They deserve our help and respect for all that they do for us. She hates gays! Hey, are there any gay EDAs on the list? HOw does it feel being depicted a fag by a fellow member? What a hypocrit -- she says I hate Jews and that's so bad (when I merely quoted a piece from Jewel's live version of PIeces of You) and she had just gone and hated homosexuals. My sexual orientation -- that's not up to anybody to decide but me. But you're a bitch and that's already been proven. THIS GIRL IS 18, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I *have* been effected in a good way but it's not really Jewel who made me a good person, it was myself. Jewel was just my inspiration, but I was the one who said "I need to go and find myself and love myself and learn to be spiritual". Jewel's spirituality might have inspired that but we as individuals choose who we are and we have been given Jewel too much credit for the positive changes in ourselves. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 12:58:46 EDT From: Angeljlb96@aol.com Subject: ... For real, this is probably the most ignorant post I've ever seen to this list (my own don't count ^_-)... I'm not saying that your opinions are invalid, precisely, but SHOOT you do put a lot of stock in them, don't you? So you like Bukowski and you don't like Jewel... instead of suggesting that you go join the Bukowski list and tell THEM that, I'd rather point out that you may not be privy to the full scope, 100% unfiltered, objective view of reality that would allow you to pick out all of Jewel's influences and their specific effects on her work. Lay off on the caustic know-it-all style... that's my role, conSARN it! ^_^ I'm not your mother, so I'm not gonna lecture you on the childish, unfriendly (combative) way you expressed your contempt and disdain for Jewel's wordsmithery, but I will point out that you appear to have a gross misunderstanding of the respective roles that artists such as Jewel and their producers play whilst in the studio. I didn't really care that some of my messages didn't get through because maybe they were too common a question, I just felt that if this was a list about Jewel, any sort of posts should go through. If people didn't like getting hundreds of messages a day (like me) they would just subscribe to the digest and they can read all the messages in one huge one and just be able to find stuff at their leisure... I do understand how some things ought not to be on the list, about MP3 and just plain dumb unrelated questions, but who really cares? There's always the delete button. I don't know -- this is the first time I've heard of a moderated list and it just seems to me to just be someone to read through messages and make sure that stuff that he or "management" deemed unfit.... even if it's related to Jewel... I personally do not care one way or another whether Mark (MAXMOUZE@aol.com) is hetero, homo, or bisexual. I really wouldn't care if he decided not to be any of those and he went off and married a turtle or something! It is not my business and it doesn't affect me. He's probably a good person regardless of his sexuality and if anyone thinks that someone else's sexuality (which is not their problem/business anyway) is the only thing that there is to talk about, then they sign off the list. 2. If Jewel really is a sellout and is only writing boods, singing, and making movies for the money, than she can do that if she wants. All that means is that, oh my gosh, she's human! Just like everyone on this list! If someone payed you big money to write, act, or sing, don't you think that you would do it too? 3. This is a JEWEL list. Not a list for Steve Poltz, Tori Amos or math help. If it was a list for Steve Poltz, I somehow doubt it would be called a Jewel list. It would be called a Steve Poltz list. But because it is called a JEWEL list, I think we should be using it to talk about Jewel. 4. Eventually, Jewel is going to write/sing/say something that someone isn't going to like. But that doesn't mean we have to criticize her or her music. If you don't like it, fine, but it probably means something to her, and that's all that matters. thanks for reading this. If I offended anyone, sorry, but I think someone out there (you know who you are) has offended quite a few people with her comments about how bad gays are. I'm not saying that I am gay, but she should not be criticizing people who aren't exactly like her. If we all were, then we would have one screwed up list. It's nice to listen to but I don't think it's very thought-provoking >> OK, I love STeve and his music. The unlistenable thing wasn't meant to be like the songs weren't barable. I meant they weren't able to be played on radio. Like "Good Morning (Waking Up Without You)" and "Silver Lining" -- they are "unlistanable" because they have a different sound than songs you have on the radio. And the Impala lyrics was to say "Wow, it's a creative song and well-written but the subjects never go beyond relationships". Impala is actually one of my fave songs. It's ironic that the simple misconception from above caused the entire argument. Too bad people don't e-mail me PRIVATELY and discuss something I said. Now normally MP3's would be a bad idea because they freely distribute music that is sold commercially. Thus taking away from the artist's profits. But in the case of Angelfood, Jewel wants it passed around for free right? Someone said before that RealAudio's were of similar quality to MP3's. This is simply not true! RA's are usually pretty low quality. Their big claim to fame is that you can stream the files so the user doesn't have to download it first. If someone could explain to me why an MP3 library of Jewel's non-commercial songs would be a bad idea, please do! But please send it privately to cut down on the list clutter.
