I was wondering if anyone had the melody notes for any of Jewel's songs that arent on poy? I like playing her songs on the piano and singing along, and sometimes its hard to figure it out on my own. Can anyone help?? Ami ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Oct 1998 01:52:32 EDT From: Stevie3103@aol.com Subject: Re: apprehension I think it is all a misunderstanding. Patrick Leonard is a great producer. If you have seen him on the Behind the Music: Madonna, he spoke out. Madonna is always portrayed as "slutty" or "dirty" but I don't think that is the case. This doesn't even have to do with her, this is music which we are talking about, not who is producing the album. If Pat Leonard was not a good producer, why would Madonna be around for 15 years? This is not some hate letter, just watned to express my opinion. thanks Stevie the fame angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Oct 1998 04:14:55 EDT From: Angeljlb96@aol.com Subject: Hands? What the heck's that? In a message dated 10/7/98 10:44:01 PM Central Daylight Time, owner-jewel- digest@smoe.org writes: << How many of you think Jewel has gone way over the edge in the "production" category? Case in point...can any of you imagine what "Hands" would sound like with her playing it solo acoustic? Yeah, not likely. It's not written that way. The sound just wouldn't be the same, thus changing the song itself. >> I don't think so. I think it sounds great, and will sound great solo and acoustic. My boyfriend played it on the guitar the other day (grrr...), and I could so hear Jewel singing it by herself. I like that she's experimenting with the electronic stuff =) And I can't wait to hear the other 8 or 9 songs I've already heard solo and acoustic...with technology involved. Love, Jamie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Oct 1998 08:29:30 -0700 From: "Wizard" Subject: Disappointed w/Hands Well, I heard Hands this morning for the first time, and was very disheartened. Jesse was accurate with his assumption that this is going to be overproduced. The producer took a song that had the potential to be starkly beautiful, and diminished it with superfluous layering that I found very obtrusive. The production values befit an artist who lacks the ability to stand alone on their own merits, and require a clever producer to make a mediocre song tolerable. If the rest of the album follows this trend, its going to be a disaster. I'm afraid to hear what' been done to IM or Deep Water. Jewel needs a producer who can accent her amazing abilities; not one who will sugarcoat great songs so they will be palatable to Top 40 radio. If Jewel maintains this course, perhaps we can look forward to her future collaborations with Hanson or the Spice Girls. There was such good response yesterday that Joy may consider another small run made if requests warrant it. Ok here's all the info: I know we have several Joy Eden Harrison fans here, especially after so many East Coast people caught her on the 98 Living Room Tour. For those interested in purchasing the pre-release cassette of her new album (to be released early next year & as yet still untitled), drop me an email & I'll forward you details. Joy has a limited supply of these limited edition tapes left over from the LRT & you can mail order directly from her while they last. The tapes are $12 including shipping & handling. The tapes are proffessional advance production cassettes with photographic jcards, credits, etc. For those unfamiliar with all the hoo-hah surrounding this album, its a major leap forward from her critically acclaimed first album "Angel Town" while staying true to her jazz roots. The songs are more engaging than that first album, in my opinion, & the musicians on it all put on great performances. (I absolutely love it, if you can't tell!) Cindy Lee Berryhill sat in the producers chair & arranged the incredible string parts played by Garage Orchestra cellist Renatta Bratt & a small string section. I highly recommend this album to all who have enjoyed Joy's music in the past & I know many more will become enamored with her soon. Drop me a line if interested & I'll send you the direct ordering info. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR FULL NAME IN YOUR REPLY. I will forward all requests to Joy, who is setting a tape aside for each person interested. This way she can stop taking requests when all the tapes are spoken for. Also, please follow through quickly if you do want the tape as there is a limited quantity & someone else can enjoy it if you decide not to follow through. The official release of this album will be early next year, so get it now while you can, if interested, directly from Joy. Tracklisting & musician info follows. Jewel tells Billboard Bulletin that the book may also contain short stories. No release date has been set for the project, according to the publisher. "A Night Without Armor" rocketed to the top 10 of The New York Times' nonfiction list this summer and is now in its 15th printing. It's refreshing different (pos) and the sharp edges of her voice reaching me are lost (neg). Let me get this clear... I like it ! But the sound of the band and the neverending story of radiostations asking for these kinds of songs makes me a bit sad. There are stronger songs she made. I am sure about that. The waiting for her album makes this first time 'hands' even more difficult. And the doubts on wether I like (or not like) Jewel performing with band are not taken away by this song. Probably when I hear this song more often I think I'm gonna listen in a different way. Now in my head visions of Shania, Sheryl, Melissa and others are flowing. Let's hope her "POY-identity" won't get lost (although she made it at the time she was a teenager it still is just a wonderfull album and sound). Just my personal opinion. Not meaning to offend anyone...... And I definately are going to see her the first chance I get (in the US or in Europe) :-)) Is there any news on the concerts she would do two weeks in November? That's what i like about the EDAs =). We are enthusiastic, truthful, kind, and we care. i think it's great that we are showing our support for Jewel. She has always been an inspiration to us (well, to me anyway) as far as music, poetry, random acts of kindness goes. i think it's so great that there are EDA's all over the world! In just reading some of your messages, i feel a sense of pure joy, excitement, and happiness in hearing "Hands" for the first time, whether in the states, Sweden, etc...it's absolutely wonderful to be a part of this. Excuse me for sounding like a dork (and so corny, too!) but i really can't express myself any better. If i could give you guys a hug right now, i would! THANK YOU FOR YOUR (JEWEL) SUPPORT! BTW, Charlie Watkins once requested for me to give details on the Jewel concert i saw in Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan, October 7 (Asia tour '97). (Hey, that's one year ago today!!!!) i have not forgotten, i've just been a tad busy (school, jobs, etc) but i WILL post a message regarding that concert soon! Thanks for your patience! BTW, did anyone else see Jewel during her Asia tour??? Just thought I'd mention a couple things I noticed on the web. I was checking out some Jewel CDs at CD-Now, and under the POY file, they gave "Angel Standing By" the wrong title! They called it "Angel Standing By The Sea". Isn't that odd? It always annoys me when people can't even get something simple like a song title right! They also said that "Foolish Games" was about someone struggling with a drug addiction. I'm no genius but I don't think that's right either! Isn't Foolish Games more of a love song, based on a poem Jewel wrote many years ago? I know it's probably been discussed a millions times and the rest of you are probably more interested in hearing about "Hands", but I just thought I'd mention it. I haven't heard "Hands" yet, so I'm sort of out in the cold on that subject!
