Q. Which female pop singer left 300 lb. men in pools of their own blood? -break for commercial- Answer: "Jewel started her career in the entertainment industry as a pro-wrestler, where she was famous for her round-house Alaskan crotch kick, but mostly for her five-octave Alaskan death scream." He asks for one thing, that people hold off the opinion-making until you have heard the songs. But this is after earlier in his post he says that he thinks Spirit is an album we will all look upon as one of her greatest ten years from now!!! Positive prejudging is just as bad if not worse than negative prejudging. You can't complain that people are too skeptical about an album that they haven't heard yet and then comment(on the same album that you haven't heard either) that you think it's gonna be one of Jewel's greatest albums and we'll all recognize it as such 10 years from now. That's what's wrong with people on both sides of this discussion on the list. You are both prejudging something you haven't even heard. And prejudging it in a positive light is in no way better than those who are being prejudiced in a negative way. Just had to get that off my chest, to use a cliche. Hi all, I've already had several people ask me if Jewel's single of "Hands" is already out. A promotional single for "Hands" with a brief Jewel intro has been sent to selected radio stations apparently. I do not know which stations, so you'll have to rely on each other for that info. Most major stations will have it by October 26th. However, no, the single has not been released. The actual commercial release (in store sales) date for this single has not yet been announced. And as you know, Jewel's album "SPIRIT" will be out November 17th throughout North America & Europe. MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Sep 1998 22:30:28 -0400 From: "Willms, Gregory J." Subject: RE: Re:OFFICIAL TRACKLIST-People who prejudge & then criticize.... I think Sean's point in all of this is that having a preconceived notion either way is not good. Saying that you "think" "Spirit" is an album that we'll all think is one of her greatest is the same as saying that you "think" it's going to be a failure. You shouldn't expect it to go platinum in 4 days and you shouldn't expect it to be yanked off the shelves in 4 days... you shouldn't expect anything. Just wait and hear, and then share opinions. There's nothing at all wrong with hoping or looking forward to, and I probably wouldn't have gone off and told everyone to not get thier hopes up with this new album, but as most people can tell you from experience, better to just lay low and see what happens as opposed to setting yourself up for disappointment. Jesus, it sounds like I'm discussing some life-threatening issue here. Enough. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #509 ***************************
