Hi Everybody, I was just wondering why a lot of EDA's seem to be criticizing Jewel. Some of the posts are even calling her stupid for changing her CD title, saying she won't make it like she did last time, she picked stupid songs for the album, blah, blah, blah! What's going on here? Why is it that every bit of information we get, someone has to criticize and read into what it could say and not what it does say. I personally love everything that Jewel has done so far and I for one won't ever doubt her or her future projects until I've seen or heard them. I almost find it silly to check the posts lately because everyone dwells on the same things again and again, which I understand to a certain extent because there are a lot of people out there who want to voice their opinions, which is fine that's why we're all here right, but I feel there's a point when it almost looks like an anti-Jewel fan club. Just like when I was a newbie, I was reading horrible stuff people we're writing and I was like, wow this is sure inspirational can I join? And why is everyone so concerned on how many albums she sells, yes it will help her to make more albums in the long run(money wise), but we all know Jewel is awesome, and we know that her album will kick butt, come on guys this is our Jewel, the one we make all these hard working websites for, t-shirts, poetry contests, fundraisers, etc. She's the one we all tell our friends to buy her CD. Some of you are starting to sound like a lot of those reporters we all tend to hate!!! Here's my question, honestly now, are you gonna not like the album because of what it's called? Has Jewel ever screwed up before, she seems quite intelligent to me, I think she knows what she's doing. I have a good feeling that once the album comes out everyone will be nice again because they'll realize this long long was worth it! I think everyone needs to stop what their doing and go listen to POY and remember why we like Jewel. Yah Go Jewel, Yee Haw! This was not meant to hurt anyone's feeling I'm just surprised by what some people say some times. But I'm sure I'll hear about it, right? Adia The Angel who complains about the complainers! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Sep 1998 22:37:43 -0500 From: Steve Hodgson Subject: Re: Reality Check! A truly excellent letter! I just joined the list a long time ago, but unsubscribed for a while because I was tired of all the mail. When I rejoined a couple days ago, I felt that the list had gotten a lot more negative. When I was on it before, people would anxiously await Jewel's television appearances, and debate over trivial topics. Now, I am seeing people who are criticizing her and her upcoming album. I think that a lot of people have lost sight of the real reason we like Jewel, or the reason that I like her, anyways. To me, Jewel has the voice of an angel. Her songs are so expressive, and they really make me feel good. I'm the type of person who buys CDs, listens to them a lot, then puts them away after about a week. But my POY CD is different. It is the only CD that I haven't grown tired of, and I've had it for over a year. I can still pop in her CD, and instantly feel better, just by listening to her amazing voice. I feel that Jewel is a "true" person, and not trying to be something she's not. She wants to make others around her happy, and that is what I enjoy about her. And to sit here and listen to people complain about the title of her album, just makes shake my head. Who cares what she calls it, and who cares what songs she selected for it. It's time that we all asked ourselves, what it is that we love about Jewel? There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism. There are some things. .about jewel.. i don't really care for. That is only natural, and human nature. People have a right to "complain" as you call it. Jewel believes in self-expression, and tell how we feel. And as EDA's . . we have that right. . I could not disagree more with this "Reality Check!" post (the crux of it anyway) and the one reply. Yeah, there've been some posts not too happy with the title "Hands" and some particular songs being left off, but since MrBB announced the tracklist of the CD the onlist response has been overwhelmingly positive and expressing high anticipation for the CD's release. (even many of the "complaint" posts were much in favor of other aspects of the CD) This at times "almost looks like an anti-Jewel fan club."....because of maybe 6 or 8 posts? Besides, folks have a right to express some disappointment if a song they thought may be on it turns out not being on the CD. It's natural. I for one was disappointed Face Of Love didn't make the final cut.......am I a bad EDA now? No. I'll still love the CD as I'm quite sure most of us here will....heck, I'm quite excited over the song selections on it! Please remember, we have 1,900 people on this list. There's going to be 1,900 opinions about the CD. From what I remember far it seems like 95-5 in favor of it all.
