If you type in "I love Jewel" and hit SHIFT and F7, it brings up the thesaurus. The synonym it gives you for "I love Jewel" says "I should say so"... ok, ok, I know it wasn't all that spectacular, but I thought it was kinda groovy. So there you have it! As for sharing her writing and lyrics with others.. Word of mouth is the best way. I dont believe in the media. It's geared for psychological control and rarely portrays things the way they truely are.... Not something I think should be done with Jewel. I'd rather have a Jewel that was understood yet not as well known then a popular Jewel that is portrayed inacurately. What are we trying to relate to anyway??? Some false sense of idol worship?? food for thought... your (takes everythng personal eda) Kevin ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Sep 1998 17:33:59 +1200 From: Kim Lees Subject: NJC: Re: "Songs of Freedom", Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" > The song Redemption Song, is NOT by Bob Marley. Maybe this isn't the right part of her career for it but > it's not unprecedented and often works quite well as a contrast. I think you hit it here, Sean, and I think you missed it. From reading her commnents it seems that Jewel is still not quite comfortable expressing these darker feelings. And, as we all know, she believes that thoughts are tanslated into actions. So, she is careful of the things she writes. This may be for herself as well as those fans who look to her for inspiration. When she matures to a point where she can explore these things without feeling like she may succumb to them, then maybe she will. However, her attitude now is to reject this in principle and that may be a priciple she plans to stand by. However, you can't say Jewel doesn't deal with gritty reality. Witness "Daddy", POY, "Little Sister" and "Fat Boy" (I like the title Fragile Flame so much better). Taken as a whole, the POY CD was pretty morose, but with a moral stance. What fans have said they wanted next from Jewel was a lighter, Pop-ier album. Wether Spirit will fill that want will have to be seen. Produced by Madonna collaborator Patrick Leonard, "Spirit" was completed earlier this month in a Los Angeles studio. The first single from the album, titled "Hands," will be hitting radio airwaves on October 26 and a video is expected to be shot on October 1 and 2 in Los Angeles with an as-yet-undetermined director. In order to help promote the forthcoming record, Jewel will take to the TV airwaves to perform on "Saturday Night Live" on November 14, and has also lined up photo shoots for spreads in issues of "Rolling Stone" and "Vogue" magazines. Jewel is also featured in the upcoming Ang Lee movie, "Ride With The Devil" alongside Skeet Ulrich and Tobey Maguire, and the Civil War drama is expected to open in theaters nationwide in mid-April. The singer's poetry book, "A Night Without Armor," has sold over 500,000 copies since being released on May 19, and has spent the last 10 weeks on "The New York Times" Best Seller list. Hi everyone~ Jewel is back in Entertainment Weekly, this time in an article about Beau Sia's parody of A Night Without Armor. He made "Jewel-like" poems with a twist. Here's the article: Jewel embittered a lot of long-suffering poets with the megabucks she snagged for A Night Without Armor, and now Beau Sia's striking back. The 22-year-old NYU graduate recently published A Night Without Armor II: The Revenge, a volume of "Jewel-inspired" blank verse that borrows its jacket design from this summer's HarperCollins best-seller. Sia's deadpan parodies of such Jewel gems as "God Exists Quietly" ("inside my underwear/why don't you come over/and say hello") and "Dionne and I" (I do not/call her psychic line) have quickly won a following: Mouth Almighty Record's new literary imprint is about to triple their 1000-copy initial pressrun. "A lot of her poems are too long. If they were chopped in half they'd be better," opines Sia. "But I'm kind of pleased that there have got to be millions of kids getting into poetry now, because of Jewel. Maybe on their own they'll develop an interest in Frank O'Hara, or William Carlos Williams, or me." -Alexandra Jacobs ~Emily, the Sunrise Angel~ *I'd rather see the world from another angle" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Sep 1998 19:09:44 -0500 (CDT) From: Ray DeJean Subject: Jewel pix and winamp skin Hey all, Just a little note, i've finished doing my Jewel winamp skin.
