It is cruel to come on here and call the people on this list dorks, because they have enough security to speak what is truly in their hearts. It doesen't matter a lick who or what puts the good kind of ideas Jewel consistantly advocates to people. What matters is that these people are becoming better people for having been exposed to outside ideas. You are as brainwashed as anyone else. It is not hard to come to the realization that if when people got frustrated, they all laughed, instead of getting mad, the people that saw this reaction from birth and thought it the natural one, would do the same. People react to situations how they learn to react to them. Charles Manson said something interesting once, though you'll forgive the lack of a medical term when I say he was a nutball, "You are not you...You are only reflections of everything that you've seen, everything you've heard, everything you know." There is some truth to this, the few people that manage to escape some of the, for lack of a better term "brainwashing", usually only do so because they have the ability to think outside the box, or backwards, sideways, in ways not intrinsent to average thinking processes. The mind can sometimes get a bit warped from the way they think, and many times you end up with an insane person. Nietzche was a helluva thinker/writer, but if you think all his dogs were barking, you should prolly read the letters he wrote home when away at school, and not just writings, like Zarathustra. Further, Plato said "There is no great genius without an add mixture of madness." I find it hard to believe you are so far above the people on this list when you broach the subject in the way that you did. If you were half as smart as you seem to think you are, I believe you would have realized that all you did was perhaps hurt a few feelings, and/or make a few tempers run hot. Very few people accept ANY ideas when they are forced upon them. If there is one thing I hate to see here it is cynisism. If you think everyone needs a wake-up call, because they are so lost that you need to throttle them, then try honey instead of vinegar. While I understand your motivation behind statements like "Jewel is not a surreal being" and "She didn't come down to sing to you" Compared to most of the every-day shit people have to go through and see, she comes pretty damn close to angel status to me babe. I always tend to write to much, and never get to fully explain myself because I'm so longwinded, but suffice to say, play nice. Never sweat the small stuff like what people say about Jewel, or most other things....Jesus was perfect, and was crucified, how can you expect someone imperfect to be understood? Understand and mold yourself, and STRIVE to give others that same gift Ask not for whom the bell tolls, It tolls for Thee -Donne Seth Pride ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Sep 1998 09:34:13 -0400 From: lklecanda@juno.com (Lisa A Klecanda) Subject: NJC: EDA poem book update Hey, everyone! Hi Angels! This discussion has been going on for a while, and I have to say I think I agree with Gregory. The interpretation is a personal thing. Sometimes if you ask a musician or poet what their song/ poem is about, they can't even tell you, because they don't know, it was just inspiration. I mean, there are so many interpretations for Amen because everyone has a different personality and mind, and they interpret it into a way that they can most understand or relate to. It's involuntary. For instance, I interpreted Amen as saying that we can't keep waiting for angels and higher powers to rescue us until we can rely on ourselves. OK, completely different from anyone else's opinions, but that's honestly what I got out of it. Well, I'm done. I seem to have run out of anything interesting to say. But while standing in line at the BX (military department store) I noticed the latest issue of Vogue. It had Renee Zellweger on the cover. I decided to buy it. I don't really like those types of magazined all that much but wanted the article. Anyway I read it and at the end Jewel was mentioned so I proceeded to the e-mail to let you all in on it but looks like Miguel already beat me to it. However, I figured I could still offer a little service to you guys by copying the small section which relates to Jewel. So here goes- Suddenly a man appears at Zellweger's table. "I'm sorry to interrupt you," he says. "But I wonder if you could maybe sign this napkin for my daughter. She's the huggest fan of your work." Zellweger says, "Oh my god, of course." The man, embarrassed at the intrusion, says, "I never do this, really. It's just that she's seen you all over the place." Zellweger looks up, quizzically. "She has? Really? I'm trying to remember where I've been!" The man mistaking this for modesty, laughs nervously. "So it's true what they write about you," he says. "You are just a regular girl. How refreshing for a rock star. Especially someone named Jewel!" I was amused by it anyway. The rest of the article was typical Renee Zellweger. Just as whenever someone interviews Jewel your sure to hear about living in the van, etc. This article resurfaced all the old info that I'd read in other Zellweger interviews. So it's not really worth buying except for a few beautiful pictures. Well take care everyone. Yah, I agree, it was a weird article....you don't see many articles like it. But I didn't think it was badly written. I actually thought it was quite funny because I guess I kind of got what the guy was saying and it made me laugh. And Jewel fans laughing during POY? Me included. Wait, don't sue me yet. What I mean is Jewel told a real funny story about POY in concert just before she sang it, ya know, the one about the snobs she performed the songs for in N.Y. or something like that. Trust me it was funny! Just imagine this, you're a new Jewel fan at her concert for the first time and in front of everyone she starts singing "oh fa-agot, fa-agot..". What else are you going to do? Of course you're only there having fun, not studying philosophy. About the laughing during Adrian....didn't see anything too funny about that, just that the song is just too dang long. Come on! 6 and a half whole minutes of "Adrian come out and play."! Now, I'm not saying anything bad about Jewel or her songs. It's just that I "got" this article and it's funny. Ya just have to take it with a light heart and an easy-going attitude and you'll see what I mean. You're not going in here to read an album review. The man is joking and so am I! I'm sure we all tease our friends from time to time....that doesn't mean we're terrible, immature people.
