EDAs, Well, after taking the summer off from chatting, since everyone got busy and didn't show up at the chat room, we are ready to start it up again. This chatroom is shared between 12 different Jewel websites and an official Jewel Chat website. This one is probably one of the more popular ones because you don't need AOL or MIRC to logg into it. We have a chat schedule that we go by, if you don't live in the United States, you will have to figure out what time it would be in your time zone. Here is the chat schedule: Pacific.....: 7PM Mountain....: 8PM The ending time of chat varies... Central.....: 9PM People may not show up for another hour after it is Eastern US..: 10PM after it is scheduled to start. I apologize to those that I never wrote back to. My summer has been extremely hectic, what with getting ready for college, and my boyfriend leaving for the army tomorrow : ( Anyway, if any of you kind souls would still send me some angelfood I am more than willing to send money for S & H and for the tape (s). I am open to all angelfood, since the only one I had was Jewel Rocks the Paradise, which seems to have been lost in the thing I like call "my bedroom". Who knows if it will ever be recovered....... Lead vocalist Sharron caught Joy's attention with the vital information that the legendary James Dean was born and buried only a short drive from here; right on the way to Liz's show, in fact. So Joy and Lisa stopped by James' hometown for a visit and to pick up a few souvenirs. I won't say that they spent a lot of time there, but Duff and I left after they did, and beat them to Liz's by an hour. :-) [For those who haven't listened to "Innerchange Days" or Joy's album: perhaps the most popular of her songs is "Where have you gone, Jimmy Dean" which features backing vocals by Jewel on the ICD tape] EDA Jay from Iowa (who spent the night after my show) followed us, because he was heading back via a different route. We arrived at Liz's comfortably ahead of time, after a weird detour caused by me forgetting the name of the turnoff road in Toledo. :-/ However, the look on Liz's face when Duff appeared at the door was worth any amount of inconvenience en route. Liz invited a number of her friends from Toledo, and with the other out-of-towners (Hi, Mia! Why did you run off without a goodbye hug? :) we had a comfortable but not large attendance. I set up my equipment and before you know it, the concert was under way. Interestingly, it was a vastly different set from Friday night, and in some ways more effective. Joy and Lisa took turns, playing two medium-length sets each, with a break in the middle for refreshments. Kudos to Liz and her parents for providing a wonderful atmosphere for the show. Joy dedicated "Jimmy Dean" to me (an unexpected delight) and reprised her performance art pieces from Friday with percussion accompaniment from Liz's friend Rocky. Lisa did some really powerful pieces, including "Rainbow" co-written with Steve Poltz. All too soon it was over, and after everyone hung out for a while, a sense of overpowering hunger afflicted the crowd and most of us took off to the local Big Boy for a late night meal. This was probably the highlight of the evening from a non-musical perspective; I was in heaven, sitting at a small table with Duff, Joy, and Lisa. the small group talked about various matters, musial and non-musical, travel, people (some wonderful Steve P. and Jewel anecdotes!) and food. It was a typical EDA gathering (sorry to those of you who haven't attended one yet...) filled with much good cheer and lots of sharing. Again, it was far too soon that everyone had to depart. Joy and Lisa hugged everyone goodbye and returned to Liz's to pack for their drive out. I bade farewell to Liz, and Duff and I took off for the return drive. We got here about 3 AM, whereupon Duff decided to continue homeward while she still felt OK. As with most EDA gatherings, especially where Liz is involved, it was a wonderful experience. I regret that I'll have to miss some upcoming shows, but it was great to see two shows back-to-back with two of the nicest people in music today. - -- | Greg Dunn | Now I know I'm being used. "Capitalising on stunning, elegant acoustic guitar work, Jewel Kilcher created one of the most overlooked albums of recent times (in Britain at least). 'Pieces Of You' contains everything from heartbreaking moments of melancholy, to upbeat, amusing sketches of strangers' lives. Well worth seeking out." Their list of the top ten female guitarists of all time is as follows... 1. Joni Mitchell 2. Chrissie Hynde 3. Bonnie Raitt 4. Jennifer Batten 5. Sheryl Crow 6. Memphis Minnie 7. Joan Armatrading 8.
