Victoria ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 23:17:14 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB-Whats on these upcoming TV appearances? Hi all, Several have written asking me to elaborate on exactly what is featured with Jewel on these upcoming TV appearances. OK. Here goes: Tuesday, September 1st- Jewel's close friend & occasional collaborator Steve Poltz will be featured in his own half hour VH1 TV special called "An Evening With Steve Poltz". This was recently filmed at one of his gigs at Schuba's in Chicago on his tour to promote his newest album "One Left Shoe". Jewel is not featured in this special, but songs that she collaborated on with Steve are included. This will air at 11:00PM EST on VH1 September 1st. Sunday, September 6th- "CBS Sunday Morning" Earlier on the same day that listmember Sarah was joining Jewel in Montana for MTVFANatic (July 7th), Jewel was interviewed by this popular CBS Sunday morning news show. This is a particularly good interview & worth catching. Very high compliments have been made about this piece including "Jewel really eats up the screen" & "She is riveting" This program airs from 9:00AM (EST) to 10:30am on CBS September 6th. Her segment will run somewhere within that 90 minutes. Tuesday, September 8th- Seventeen Magazine TV Special called "What's Hot-Seventeen's Superstars". On this program, Seventeen Magazine interviews various people and Jewel is the musical person profiled. Her poetry book "ANWA" is also featured in this segment. This will air on the Warner Brothers Network at 9:00PM EST September 8th. There ya have it, :-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Aug 1998 12:12:18 +1000 From: blh301@coombs.anu.edu.au (Barry Howarth) Subject: Teresa and Jewel's religion Hi Angels, A reply to Teresa's post. Teresa said: " Would any of you like her less if she was Jewish or Muslim or Catholic or even Athiest? If you would than I find that sad. If you only like an artist because of what they represent and not mostly on their musical and poetic talents than why bother listening to music at all." I like Jewel because she has something to say and, on the whole, I support what she says. I also like the way in which puts over her message. She is a consumate artist. So what Jewel says, what she thinks and believes and puts into her songs and poetry is important. This is what makes her so special to me. No matter how beautiful her voice or how catchy or lovely the tune, if she was singing meaningless words I don't think I would be interested. This is where Jewel is different from most pop singers, which is probably why i don't listen to all that much pop music. Writers, like Jewel, write to get across a message: they use their art to make the communication more effective. Now, if that message changes, as it will with time and development and new experiences, then people interested in what that writer says, and has said, are bound to comment on the changes and how those changes affect their attitude to the writer. If Jewel became a Nazi or joined the KKK, I would certainly like her a whole lot less than I do now (to say the least!). I would also be disappointed if she became just another holy roller. So what she says in her songs is important to me and will affect the way I respond to those songs. People can enjoy Jewel's music at different levels. That's fine.Personally, I just can't play her music as background music; if she's singing I have to sit down and listen to the words. My daughter feels the same way about Jewel's music but sees the compulsion to stop and listen to the words as a negative thing; she prefers bouncy music she can have playing while she does something else. So, thanks, Teresa, for asking the question. I appreciate your point of view; I hope you can appreciate mine too. I am calling it Well Bearz, and what I am trying to do is collect teddy bears to give to kids in hospitals. I am taking this one step farther than the EDA's because the more people involved the more bears we can give away. What I was planing to do was send bears to hospitals and letting them give out the bears, but it might cheer up the kids more if they were personally given away. So what I was thinking was to start local "chapters" of well bearz. For instance I would get together with people in the Augusta GA area and we would be the main chapter because it was my idea. And lets say there was someone who wanted to volunteer in chicago, so they would be the president of the chicago chapter. The presidents would e-mail each other with ideas and stories about how it has helped the kids, etc. If you would like to create a local chapter of well bears in your area e-mail me at WellBearz@aol.com We also need donations of the following things: 1) Bears 2) money (for buying coloring books and crayons) so if you would like to donate anything please e-mail me PS: please send any questions, comments, ideas, etc. you have to my new e-mail address for this project WellBearz@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Aug 1998 19:07:50 EDT From: CooPoo17@aol.com Subject: NJC: hi all, im back... I'll see many of you at the MA stops . I hope many of you attend & enjoy the other great shows lined up for you! And I hope all you folks on the EDA-Project list come to an agreement on things. I doubt any groundbreaking Jewel-news will occur & you have all the LRT info & upcoming Jewel TV info. (if not, see previous Jewel list postings from this week at: http://www.smoe.org/lists/jewel/archives/) You should periodically check Jewel's website (http://www.jeweljk.com/) for the photos BiBi & West took at Jewel's recording sessions. They should be up soon. I was communicating with BiBi a few days ago & she will let your list-manager Mike know when they are ready, so he'll also keep you posted on that. One last thing, several people were curious about who all has performed at EDA hosted LRT gigs & where. So following this message is the complete list of LRT gigs so far.
